Mike has been playing the guitar since he was 12 years old, and from that first moment his love affair with music and the instrument began. Fresh out of school at the age of 16 he attended the Academy of Contemporary Music in Guildford and completed a year-long Diploma course.
After finishing the ACM his life as a full time musician began, playing in numerous bands and touring up and down the country playing iconic venues such asThe Shepherds Bush Empire, The Astoria, The Underworld and London’s Jazz Café. He’s also been fortunate enough to support industry legends Paul Weller, Blondie and Katie Melua.
Mike’s session work has led to his working on a variety of projects - from performing with stars such as Ricky Wilson and Diana Vickers, to appearing in many TV shows and adverts. Mike loves being on stage performing, but is equally at home recording in a studio - where he has worked with Alex Von Soos (All Saints, Seal, Atomic Kitten), Mike Horner (The Prodigy, Shakira, Bloc Party), and Mike Chapman (Blondie, Suzi Quatro)

heres a good one, i just learnt, if you think of a 251 in C, -D min7 - G dom 7 - C maj 7, now play the first two chords, then the same move a semi tone down (D flat to F sharp dom 7) then repeat this down another semi tone ie C min 7 to F dom 7 then the one chord of tha new key, B flat maj 7!

it works because a flat ninth interval has to drop a semi tone in the next chord hence G maj contains a D note, you can hear that augmented 5th sound against the G key centre create and resolve the tension, nice.. :D

this will be good! beatles chords are always not as simple as you'd think at first! lennon likes his D first inversion banjo chord shape! i totally get your love of chords, i am the same, i tend to blur chords and scales in my mind now? it's limitless, you can even play other chords over a chord..

Great lesson. Love chord stuff. With single note lead type stuff, I feel like give enough time, I can figure anything out. Something like a dominant 7 with a flat 9, I need a little help.

He goes from teaching McCartney's great jazz chords to interrupting with a course on minor penatonic. I've been lately wondering why jazz players are so snobby, but this is teaching why.

sorry bro but that's not G diminished 7th it's 'G half diminished' AKA 'min 7 flat 5' it contains a diminished triad, but the 7th is minor, not diminished, the full diminished 7th would contain an E, as in it all notes are a minor third apart, your lessons are great though and your a great player, it is notoriously confusing and rarely explained distinction in music theory!
