What's sad is that he spent the time to make the table so we'd have an easy reference so we wouldn't have to memorize them all but SCHOOLS STILL MAKE YOU MEMORIZE THEM ALL.
Actually in my chemistry classes you had a periodic table as reference for ever single test. Kind of like in trigonometry you get a calculator. Or in calculus you get a sawed off shotgun.......
Mendeleev also created his table in such a way that the noble gases (which were discovered very late) could fit into the table without disturbing it. He was a true genius
00:38 - dmitri mendeleev 01:34 - he named an undiscovered element 01:41 - called eka-aluminum 02:28 - paul emile lecoq de boisbaudran discovered gallium, also known as eka-aluminum 03:07 - mendeleev predicted other elements aswell 03:49 - the element at number 101 was called mendelevium for anyone who has to write notes Xx
People like that truly make me proud of being human. Human genius and insight at times is just unreal. It's shame that as species we have so much more flaws than advantages.
Chemistry Class Be Like Teacher: "Do you know the formula for sodium hypobromite?"Me: "NaBrO." Teacher: "What about the symbol for Nobellium?" Me: "No." Teacher: "Well do you at least know the symbol for sodium?" Me: "Na." Teacher: "... A+! :D" ***CoPIED
The periodic table is one of the great devices for memorization. I recommend to you that you memorize the 1st 20 or 30 elements. By doing so, you will have most of the building blocks of chemistry memorized, similar to memorizing the main sequence of stars in re astronomy. The periodic table separates metals from gases, shows the groups who tend to have so many bonding combinations, etc.
For those wondering why Mendeleev choose sanskrit numbers like Eka ,Dvi ,Tri as prefixes for some elements, Wikipedia states that he heard from his friend Otto Von Böhtlingk , who was writing a book about the Sanskrit grammarian Panini, who had also similarly arranged the Sanskrit alphabets by their phonetic properties ; hence the reference
As a Russian I am glad that foreigners know about Mendeleev, because even in wikipedia it’s just called “periodic table” when in Russia we always call it “the table of Mendeleev”
We had a shower curtain with the periodic table a few years ago. (www.amazon.com/s?k=periodic+table+fabric+shower+curtain&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI__bf9L-L4wIVh4bACh3wrg9zEAAYASAAEgLklvD_BwE&hvadid=176966667835&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=2840&hvnetw=s&hvpos=1t1&hvqmt=b&hvrand=10193863432562673455&hvtargid=kwd-80563333878&hydadcr=19616_9583297&tag=googhydr-20&ref=pd_sl_9t0xg6uart_b masy be of interest.)
This is no Genius, his descendant from the future came to him through time machine and gave him the Modern Table. That is why he kept (V) before (Cr) irrespective of atomic mass. It can clearly be seen its a forceful act. OR IF NOT, HE IS LEGENDARY LEVEL GENIUS
That wasn't his only achievement. He was so smart that he grouped the elements in such a way that it wouldn't disturb the group of noble gasses (group 18, period 1-7) Noble gasses were not discovered at the time and when they were, an eighteenth group was created to not disturb the existing order.
+Cabaliero why do we always have to bring them into this? Im pretty sure each country had its assholes, so why not appreciate the good guys for a second x)
Since Mendeleev got european education there's no much for russians to proud, in fact Putin and Stalin are only real russian product, all others was stolen.
@@BatMandor He's referring to a glitch in the video game "civilization" where, when Gandhi researches the Manhattan project, his aggressiveness level is supposed to drop by one point. The problem with that is, Gandhi already has the Lowest possible level of aggressiveness. So, instead, the game sets it to the maximum level. Which results in him nuking everybody in the game.
Who's here watching this after they've learnt about it in school? Like A YEAR AFTER Because they just enormously appreciate the genius of this man or probably their reading about it again this year? Cause IM IN BOTH OF THOSE CATEGORIES
I did learn this in school. My whole class did. You can even read it in almost any generic high school chemistry textbook. It's not uncommon knowledge, just forgotten or not paid attention to.
Look at a photograph of him. His eyes are so alert and penetrating Obviously his Mama saw something very unique about him to go to such trouble to get him educated. Thank you Mother of Dmitri
The interesting thing is that Mendeleev discovered the Periodic Table, but didn't invent it; none of us did. Every element in existence already fit perfectly together in a massively complex 3-4 dimensional puzzle. Humans found something that was already intricately and *amazingly* designed by God.
Even Matt Damon doesn't agree with you, teachers get paid a terrible salary taking away their job security would just make them more vulnerable and schools would be able to get rid of better paid teachers in favour of cheaper ones, not better ones
Maybe the more thought provoking question is how do the elements know how to react to each other in the first place? Neutralialities, violatilities etc, since it is a table, just food for thought.
We made a video on ALL the current elements in the periodic table over here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-v5GD7lIHkdE.html Feel free to watch it!!!
The periodic table in itself is ingenious. It arranges the elements based on atomic number, similar characteristics, valence electrons, electronegativity, ionization energy, and much more.
i dont understand how you are able to find out an elements atomic weight during the 1700s or something like they dont have the tech we do today like how does that work
It's most amazing that Dmitri Mendeleev saw the Periodic Table in a dream. “Knowledge is a light which God casteth into the heart of whomsoever He willeth." ~ Bahá’u’lláh, Baha'i Faith
Sodium and chloride walked into a bar and ordered a round of cocktails. Moments later the police showed up, and placed them both under arrest. Sodium asked “why am I being arrested?” The police replied “for a salt”
;) Adorei... Me apaixonei por todos os vídeos desse canal. Muito bom!!! Veio aquele momento de decepção quando Mendeleev não recebe nenhuma nomeação pelo menos. Mas aí vem o contraste do elemento em sua homenagem, o mendelévio :D
Mendeleev made his own periodic table, but the table that we use today , Modern Periodic Table , was not done by Mendeleev. It was done by Henry Mosley and 3 other scientists. But the stepping stones for the Modern Periodic Table are 100% derived from Mendeleev's Periodic Table. Things like classification of elements in the form of periods and groups and also using a tabular form. He also classified the elements on the basis of oxides and hydrides and also corrected the atomic mass of many elements. Obviously, the greatest part of his Table was leaving empty spaces for future elements to be placed. Even after how great the table was it had some serious disadvantages:- 1)It could not explain the position of hydrogen . This is still a problem in Modern Periodic Table, but we have kind off resolved by giving hydrogen a completely different position in the Modern Periodic Table. You might have observed that all elements touch each other in the modern periodic table except hydrogen. 2)The elements were classified on the basis of their atomic mass. If arranging elements using atomic mass sounds wrong to you or you have a question as to why atomic mass is not good for classification, then let me explain. If we use atomic mass for classification of elements, then we will also have to include the isotopes (elements with same atomic number, but different atomic mass. Eg. Hydrogen has 3 different isotopes)of all elements in his Periodic Table . If we had to do this then his table would be incredibly large and would be impossible for remembering. 3)Since he used atomic mass for classification, others questioned him as to why he didn't include all the isotopes of all the elements. These 3 are the reasons why we don't use Mendeleev's Periodic Table
here is the problem the table which you are referring to on cups t shirts etc. it is the modern periodic table and it was developed by Henry Moseley and is based on atomic number whereas the one given by Mendeleev was based on atomic mass reason why it had so many anomalies so Moseley just improvised it
Still he is called the father of periodic table. And the video credited him for successfully predicting new elements. Also the new periodic table was developed after the new concept of atomic structure was proposed by Neil Bohr in 1913. Mendeleev's died before that. The new one was based upon his work.
3:55 so ignorant of you.. Gandhi never received a Nobel prize. afterall how could Europe give Nobel to a guy who fought the damn Europe and above all an Asian..
