The M4 Sherman was the right tank for America in WWII. We were able to build it and ship it all over the world along with trained crews, trained maintenance people, ammo, fuel and spare parts, in numbers large enough to win. And win it did. A larger heavier tank would have mean fewer tanks shipped over seas. The Sherman was also easy to transport by train or by truck. It could also travel a long ways under its own power before requiring maintenance. When it did need repairs it was easier to fix than other WWII tanks.

Truth. My uncle was a tanker in the ETO and the Sherman was FAR inferior to the German Panther and Tiger. Maybe as good as the IV's if it had a 76mm gun.

The panther was a great tank when it ran.

@@tlewis615 Yes. Even the IV was better than the bog standard Sherman. The Panther was made in response to the shock of meeting the T-34. The US should have just made an improved T-34. Would have saved a lot of lives and created a lot more destroyed German tanks.

@@user-po3ev7is5w Approximately 1,581 US tankers died in ALL of WW2 in ALL theaters in ALL US tank types. Upon being knocked out, statistically 4 of the 5 Sherman tank crew survived. It was in fact a very survivable tank, that by war's end had been significantly improved and had many, man advantages over the opposition. German tank guns had very high velocity and few, including German tanks themselves could withstand a hit from. The M26 and M4 both defeated the T34 in Korea handily.

Skip this channel Interesting information, impossibly to follow the same memoir in sequence Titles should be changed to a common memoir name first each recollection plus episode number- it’s maddening.
