Johnny has really stepped it up as a host. This episode got a little crazy at times but he really kept it on track, asked some great questions. Really really well done
I have not played OW in 4 years (beside one day of OW2), have not watched the league in 2 years, but I just love to listen to you guys every week. 10:57 a classic on this podcast
17:32 - I see you Jaws. You wanted to complain more about the bracket, because it's worth complaining more about, and they try to shut you down. Now the group ends up going on a rant about how the bracket sucks again. It's written all over your face. You were right boy.
I really feel that London was only one team fight win from taking the push map against Boston and going to a map five. Backbone had an avoidable death on the high ground that cost London the team fight and allowed Boston to gain the ground needed to take the map.
honestly I've said this before and I will die on this hill any of the 4 maps played could have changed the result from either one pick/ mistake or one unlucky team fight
@@pifeg its hard it rly is i think london are specifically underrated on escort just because people are stuck thinking everyones on dive still. Biston were using a queen rush and so i personally think it wouldve been about even also
@@pifeg not to mention that london have only lost 1 escort map since the rein rush and that was to houston who ran dive and even that was incredibly close and came down to the last meters on last fight
personally as someone from the uk i loved watching the uk vs Canada 3rd place match in the 2018 world cup so i think the 3rd place match may be pretty good in owl for a viewer perspective
Nah overwatch is genius with this bracket. End one of the greatest downfalls of any esports with one of the worse playoff format brackets ever. No where to go but up from there. That being said, this weekend should be hype LFG!!!!!!!!!
Everyone forgets how good Smurf's Zarya was last year. I feel like they're better off just keeping him in for the leadership rather than playing Kalios for slightly better mechanics.
If only Dynasty had qualified over Infernal (as it should have been imo) this would be so much more interesting. If were going into a Zarya/Genji/Sojourn meta, youre looking at Void/Profit/Ezhan. I seriously hate that Infernal auto qualified when Dynasty won the Knockout bracket. Everything about the APAC format this year was so braindead.
- Reign in hell, first to be eliminated - Boston Champs vs Mayhem - Someone MVP, Decay championship ring - Rein battle between East and West. Seoul v London for 3rd/4th - also Infernal surprise signing. Fury ez
I feel like if Bernar is really that bad you might as well put fearless on zarya and rely on the system in place or just try to force Winston or something
I also think that a few of them are thinking "OMG Zarya is meta, it's going to be hard Zarya meta", where every coach we've heard from has said it's not figured out yet, which means there is counter play and Zarya is not being run everywhere anyways.
@@CrazeeAdamand if we’ve learned anything from this year, is that there’s validity to playing to team’s strengths over the meta. Well, a lot of the time.
@@NaruBrilu and the spark haven't? The spark played down to the dynasty but that was one match and they have been dominant I'm not saying the spark are better then Florida but they are certainly better the London especially since there comp plays great into the rein rush. The Spark have shown they can play at the top level when needed the London Haven beat one top team
@@sunwukong5791 oh, i thought u were arguing about spark beating florida or something, didnt realize u were arguing against london lol. Ya, u may be right. I also might be underrating them. But i feel like if London can win against any of the teams here, it'd b against the apac teams. Solely bcuz they havent played against a London type team for 2 years. They dont know how it'll be in game. Plus London went to a map 5 against Boston, who r considered a good/top team. And Boston went to a map 5 banger against Florida. Who's everyone is rating at least top 1-2 rn. But ya we may be underestimating spark. I def feel like it could b very close, like a 50-50. You also cant forget London has first map pick against spark too. This is very advantageous for them, considering they can just pick favorable rein maps and maps that arent as good for dive.
@@NaruBrilu yeah I think there is a chance London can beat the Spark but it's probably like 65-35 spark wins, they have way better mechanical skill and there comp rolls the London's unless Guxue just folds like a pancake on the doom/Winston but he's never not shown up for important games
@@sunwukong5791 idk if it "rolls" the comp. I dont think they'll expect what's coming. Their coordination is really good, and it'll be hard to predict a coordinated tp'ing bastion
I feel as far as teams picking up new players like Houston and Florida, maybe more towards Houston, that they are playing these new players 24/7, 100% of the time when some maps just aren't suitable for those players. I think it's better to be safe than sorry though when it comes to both of those teams. This thought that Zarya is also going to just be played 100% of the time in their heads is wrong... Like, every coach that Yiska has talked to has said "it's not figured out yet", which means Zarya is not just dominating every match
1:38:24 on top of all this for the Fuel. I also dont think Edison will be as good as he was last yr either. He has not lived up to the expectations of him from when he came into the league. He's only had 1 moment throughout his entire owl career where he popped off and has looked really good... and that was last years playoffs. And of course, like mentioned, they wont have the insane backline in fielder and chiyo this time round
MAG is surprisingly flexible. He might just attempt to counterpick the zarya with rein. Probably won't work against the best teams. If they fix their coordination issues with HyunJae, they can compete with most of the teams.
I was 30 min into the episode reading chat and saw someone say that no one who loses a match in the entire tournament should be eligible for grand champion. That is one dumb take, considering that basically in any sport that's not true at all (not mentioning the fact that having one bad match up doesn't mean you are not the best in the world)
I think Dallas is being overrated ngl. We literally just had "a Dallas meta" where Hanbin is the best JQ (just like he's the best Zarya), Edison on Sojourn and Sp9rkle on Genji, and they got shoved in a locker by Spark twice.
And yet Florida won 3-1 last time they squared up? Although the meta is changing, you didn't drop hero reasoning for the Lip/Merit, Chiyo/Chorong, or Fielder/Rupal comparisons - and yet the Florida players made up the team that got the 3-1. I agree in those particular head-to-heads Reign is much stronger. And yet, Florida won, 3-1. It wasn't like it was close either. Also you don't get to tell other people they're coping when you say Stalker is as good a Genji as Whoru. That's cope. That's Reign fandom cope. Whoru is widely considered the best Genji in the world atm. Amazing that you seemingly have better insight here, which contradicts people who are paid to provide analysis for the league, and you aren't on the payroll yourself. You've been robbed there mate. Job shoulda been yours.
1 instance where Mayhem won a low importance game where they had a better understanding of the evolving meta. Stalker matched whoru in the Joats meta last year. Sure whoru might be slightly better, but it won't define the outcome of the game. @@catmoonkenobi
Honestly, fuck Platchat for saying Houston losing to Dallas, just because "there has to be an upset"...like what??? Houston has been the 2nd best team the whole season...and it is not questionable. Fuel couldn't beat Spark the whole season. Like it is insane how Jaws hates Houston.
People think because it's Zarya meta (which you can't even run everywhere mind you and Houston WILL manipulate the maps to more dive focused picks), Hanbin will diff people too. The thing is, Houston will literally out play and out mechanic every other player on the team to the point where Hanbin being on Zarya won't matter.
Bro, you guys are coping hard. Not saying Plat chat is right, but having so much unshakable faith is silly. After the performance Outlaws put up against Mayhem and Spitfire recently is plenty to question them. Fuel might just take them out because of the Mickey Mouse format/patch. Sad cause Houston HAS been good and might be sent home cause of dumb factors like ones I mentioned.
@@Jmt1000XD I also think against a London, how much were Outlaws caring about that match, how much did they prep? Like.. That match meant nothing to them but practicing stuff.
In retrospect London are lucky Provide got kicked for being a pedophile cause if not they were ride or dying for that ultra racist and people would've made memes about them like they have for MCD
Avrl is completely wrong on mn3 historically not being an elite sojourn. He was right behind Lip the best sojourn last year. People need to go back and watch his VODs. And I don't feel good about INF either, but that's because their main shotcaller in FiXa is gone.
Even with Fixa they got rolled by 02… and that sojourn take is far from the truth in MSM he mainly played Ashe, in joats he was benched by Carpe on Sojourn.
The Boston copium is odd when they've been worse than Florida, Houston, and Atlanta all year. Yes they are 1-1 with Houston this season but I would personally call Houston the 3rd best out of Atlanta, Florida, and Houston.
Ya slightly. If this was the meta before the last 2 weeks of reg season i wouldve agreed with you. But i think it's a combination of things. Houston don't look as good this meta, which is why they had to go and get Bernar to play Zarya. Bcuz they don't want fearless playing it. And Florida beating Houston, then Houston beating Atlanta and then Florida beating Atlanta. So this pushed Florida to being the #1, and then a Boston vs Florida match that went to a map 5 banger. Im definitely not as high up on Boston as they r, but at the same time i could see them being 3/4th out of the rest of the teams
@@NaruBrilu I guess for me nothing this year has convinced me that Boston can punch above teams that have looked strictly better than them. I'm also a bit hesitant to rate the incorporation of Kalios for Zarya, or potentially Smurf locking the Zarya/Rein/JQ/Winston (I know they're a good Winston dive team but idk how strong Winston dive itself will be in this patch) depending on how the meta shakes out.
@@SabertheSamurai ya, like i said im not as high up on Boston either. Tank may be a bit of an issue for sure. Smurf is a really good tank so im not as worried, altho idk how his zarya is. I just looked on liquipedia to make sure, but they have brought Mayhem to a map 5 twice this season. Both in kind of the latter half when Mayhem moved from the top 5 spot to the 1-2 spot. And they did manage to beat Houston too. So they hv beaten a team that is better than them. I think it's entirely possible they can do well, but yes i agree there are very valid issues with the tank spot. Buut the exact same could be said about Houston too. Who's gonna play the zarya? Fearless? He doesnt play off-tanks. They got Bernar... he hasnt played in owl in like a yr. And even then i wouldnt say he's a top tier tank player. Both teams r kinda in similar spots id say
