Agree except that we need to see some drama before a wedding is agreed upon by all the drama queens.

I feel like season 3 will be a secret romance between them and end with it getting exposed as Marian’s “3rd strike”(at least to aunt Agnes) and then season 4 would be navigating them getting to be together for real and having a wedding. Fellows likes to play the longggg game, so that is my prediction! or wedding ends season 3 and something horrible happens to one of them in a season 4 LOL

I think their wedding will be the series finale. Bertha will want a prestigious daughter in law for Larry and I’m not sure Marian checks all the boxes there. Agnes will certainly NOT want to be related to Bertha but now that Ada has the purse strings and the say she will definitely champion Marian. So the seasons may have to navigate that. If Larry and Marian get married so soon, that closes their story unless something bad is supposed to happen in their marriage. I predicted Ada’s inheriting her wealth, something good HAD to come to her after her sorrows.

The first and second strike are in reference to her failed engagements. Agnes still wants the best for her niece because she knows what it's like to be in a bad marriage.​@@mackenzieparkhouse1305

If you notice, Agnes is all bark and no bite. She can disapprove all she wants and she has (even before she lost her wealth), but you can see how no one in her household really listened to her when she was still paying the way. I mean, Marian almost ran off/eloped--now breaking engagement with Dashiell, Ada actually got married (thankfully) to Rev. Forte, Oscar does whatever (meeting with the 'new people), Bannister doing what he did in S1 then speaking out to Agnes pre-Ada's wedding, etc....Ada will 100% support Larian. The thing is, JF likes to throw in some 'chaos' or obstacle so that it's not that smooth sailing, and one of the most devastating things...is Mrs Blaine being pregnant and telling Larry this on Season 3 after Larry and Marian are a couple.

@@tracys169 Mrs Blaine strikes me as the type of person who would just go off to Switzerland to have the baby; whether or not she wanted to keep it. Abortion was VERY, VERY dangerous at the time. Rich people didn't do it -- They went abroad and had the baby. The women who had abortions at the time were prostitutes and actresses; single women whose families would not/could not provide for them. And poor married women. For some of these women, infection (if they survived it) was a blessing in disguise because the damage prevented them from having more children. I can see Mrs. Blaine abandoning America altogether. As well as possibly living like "Big Gloria" (i.e. Anderson Cooper's grandmother -- His Vanderbilt side of family called his mother, named Gloria "Little Gloria"

I think Agnes would be pleased about it anyways since Larry is heir to an immense fortune.

And Bannister was SO astute to point out that fact in front of the whole house, totally a mike drop moment for Agnes!

It does humanize her some and she needs it.

I'm not disappointed if no season 3 occurs.

Yeah, a bunch of us predicted this when he and Ada were getting married. We predicted her to have at least equal standing to her sister. We didn't quite predict that Oscar would lose the whole Van Rhjin's fortune thou, I mean, we expected he would lose mostly his part of the inheritance because Maud was suss, but yeah, after that unfolded like 90% people think Ada would receive $$ from her late husband and save the household....

This was a great season. There must be a season 3! 🔑

Except for Gladys😢. Her mother literally just sacrificed her on the altar of vanity and pride. What will George do when he learns about it?

Yes, I was shocked at what Bertha did to "win". George promised his daughter would marry for love so I doubt Gladys will marry the Duke. Then again, who knows?

I do hope it's not the case that she marries him, though the inspo of her character did actually marry a Duke she didn't love, so hope isn't high there. That said, the opening of the Met is over so what's he gonna do? lol Plus she made the arrangement rather than Mr. Russell, so likely that would give them reason to call it off also. It’s all about money. An HBO exec has said the show is on the bubble because the ratings don’t justify the budget. There is hope but everyone should rewatch the entire series and turn everyone you know on to it. After the writers and actors strikes its going to cost even more to create these epic series. Hopefully HBO can find another network like PBS to take on some of the budget and then the show could air on dual networks at different times in the year. If the series is canceled I hope they at least give us a movie sized episode to bring all the story lines to a closure that’s satisfying to the viewers.

PBS loves this type of show but The Gilded Age does appear to have a particularly large budget amongst period dramas.

@natatatt Here's the way I feel about that. Streaming platforms like HBO/MAX are making a fortune from membership fees and now from commercials as well. They need to use some of that profit and invest in quality, big budget shows like the Gilded Age, otherwise there's no reason to pay for their service, or worse yet, pay for their service and watch their commercials.

@@christya2488 - They’re going to spend money on what viewers are watching. They can’t justify awarding big budgets to programs that have low ratings. I agree about the subscriber fees and Max along with Netflix is the most expensive, especially for no ads. FM before the launch of Max,most cable and phone carriers gave their customers HBO/Max free. A lot of folks wait until enough episodes of their series have aired so they only have to subscribe for one month to watch the entire series. I waited until Mid Nov to subscribe because I was traveling with work and had active subscriptions with several other streaming services. Thanks to my timing I was able to take advantage of their Black Friday special for $2.99/month for 6 months. I didn’t see that advertised anywhere but when I logged in to subscribe it offered me the special. Advertising is a major revenue draw but episodes of TGA have been ad free for me and I also watch “Julia” which only has one ad before the episode airs. AT&T and State Farm are two of Max’s major advertisers so they no doubt are pulling in some major cash there but again the key issue to determine what shows are renewed is the ratings. Maybe we should start lobbying the site now to please renew the show. IMO these services that put out great series that may not have the highest ratings should consider if they continue to cancel shows after one or two seasons viewers will stop investing any time in new offerings. They might consider allowing non subscribers to watch the first couple of episodes free to entice them. They should also consider finding a partner to take on half the production costs or even offer alternate pricing models like where one can purchase a series without subscribing. Finally, they should focus their advertising for various shows on mediums that offer similar content like in the case of TGA buy ad time on PBS, Smithsonian, The History Channel etc. I’ve hooked a number of people onto the series who knew nothing about it or maybe were aware because their parents watched it. Shows about the Dollar Princesses are popular right now. Apple has their own series based on Elizabeth Wharton’s unfinished novel on the subject, “The Buccaneers”. She wrote several other books about the Gilded Age as well.

You can forget that. Fellowes is following the exact same formula for Gilded Age as he did for Downton Abbey. Expecting different is a waste of your time. It's not going to happen.

Noooo way that family has been through enough! Oscar needs a season of redemption and proving himself in some way (that has nothing to do with money)

The bad thing is, it could be a great show, but instead it makes DOCTOR QUINN Medicine Woman look like DEADWOOD. (The way Fellowes fumbled Oscar Wilde was jawdropping.)
