Bad intonation, a few tempo problems, not perfectly in tune, messy bridge, not rehearsed at all. But that is music and it gets no better than that! Anyone can pick up the music as written. But music is about fun and imagination. That was real music by one of the MOST TALENTED SAX PLAYERS OF OUR GENERATION! If any of y'all could do it better, y'all wouldn't be here in the comments! Put some RESPEK ON HIS NAME!!!

Do y'all realize he's circular breathing??? Do y'all hear how he's double tonging and soloing through these changes perfectly??? He has never messed up or missed a note. He is at a music seminar playing with extraordinary complexity and unheard of altissimo range, and you people think he can't "play in tune"? Wow! LoL

What what an incredible sharing ! Jazz has No FRONTIER at all !

James is talented beyond - - -oops! I cannot "discover" the epithet that is apropos to describe his colossal and indefatigable musicianship. His saxophonic poignancy and buoyant virtuosity on the various instruments are incomprehensibly phenomenal and presently unmatched. His is a one-in-every- century feat! Even one-tenth of his ability is still too much for his musical contemporaries let alone for the average Jazz listeners. Forgive the hyperbole, won't you? Today's musical consumers are grossly misled into thinking that Jazz is Instrumental Pop, R & B, Funk or easy-listening non-vocal endeavors - the misnomer, "Smooth Jazz". I'll like to be taught actual Jazz; never have the $60-per-hour fees to pursue my true vocational aspiration. I am an experienced Pop artist who knows and plays only a little JZz licks. Surely, I have been learning to be a true Jazz practitioner. These misconceptions make it very unfairly challenging for the James Carters of the saxophones to be accorded the renown and acclaim which they so richly merit for their onerous sacrifices, and dedication to their craft. So, give this young man his due credit with undue delay! Thanks ....also to the James Carters of the saxophones! - with laudatory regards!

James carter is great. This not an idiom that is built on the things that he does, but still my take away is all the things beautiful and un Getz like. Carter just loves to play and jam. He's always game. Getz would totally appreciate all he brings here.

I just love to read these comments about how not in tune he is. He is just playing and expressing himself, THAT'S JAZZ! He can play better that you talk. He can play in tune if he wants, but that takes away from the expression. I guarantee none of you who say that can even play a 32 measure solo, and probably can't even play the song with sheet music. LoL

I disagree. Listen to second guitarist around 6:10 or so. Fantastic metric modulations. Sounds like triplets grouped in 4's and other unexpected groupings.

Brother Ian, I hope this gets to you, I'm a klutz with this internet stuff. You might be right about this kid but had it been Getz on the sax you'd hear a better sound/rhythm. Carter is ole-time-jazz and hits plenty of clams. Keep talking to me, sounds like you have a real brain and understanding of music
