Since I was a kid and found out about Faith, Hope ad Charity I have long had a soft spot for the Gladiator. The that it achieved so much just adds to my admiration for this aircraft. It's interesting that not having managed to get a piston engined monoplane accepted by the RAF Gloster's next aircraft was the jet engined meteor. So from the last biplane used by the RAF to the first jet used by the RAF.
Good work. I like how balanced and fair your video's are. No over blown claims or hyping of the aircraft you cover. Just the facts and enough history to make it very interesting. Good work so far.
To understand where finnish airforce got Gladiators one needs to study history. Swedish government send a voluntary group called F19 to finland which came with loanned 12 Gladiator MK I later British government doanated 20 Gladiator MK II and Finland bought additional 10 MK II. This was how we got Gladiators.
A nice summary by content telling me stuff I didn't know about an aeroplane I've always liked Downsides include: * The speach rate is VERY slow (I ran it at x2 speed with no loss) & * Sometimes voice sounds like AI / mechnical - eg, Junkers ........... JU ............. 88 Hope this feedback's helpful because the content is good enough to take a punt on subscribing to your channel
Feedback is most welcome. Cheers. The voice is eleven labs AI. I do take care to make as accurate as possible. But I use it due to my own voice being quite unsuitable, and the fact I flubb so much it would take days for me to do 10 minutes.
Finland did sign the revived Anti-Comintern Pact of November 1941. Britain declared war on Finland on 6 December 1941, and when Finland signed the peace treaty with the Allied powers in 1947 it described Finland as having been "an ally of Hitlerite Germany" during the continuation war. But you are right, Finland never signed the Tripartite Pact & as soon as they regained their land Finland attempted to start peace negotiations with the USSR. And it avoided annexation, keeping its independence after the war, threading a tight needle between the USSR and US.
The Greek Air Force operated Gloster Gladiators in early 1940 against invading Italian and German forces. The 21 Mira squadron claimed 10 destroyed enemy aircraft.
@@Aircraft_Files Sounds to me as the phony war is some sort of preemptive attack on Germany... i.e. that the Allies started the worst of it (WWI & II).
Pilot’s vision was restricted by the built-up fuselage behind him, the wing and bulbous engine cowling in front and the lower wing blocking the ground view. What a terrible design.
