It's hard for me to watch this video without becoming emotional. I spent 2 months in Brisbane (I'm a Yank) in 2002 with my then girlfriend we ended up spending nearly two months there. We also broke up in there after being together for almost 9 years. I spent the last week in a motel in New Farm feeling incredibly sad and alone in the world and the one thing that helped me through it apart from a few very cool Aussies was this very special band that means so much to me. They still do. RIP GM
I do remember reading the obituary Steve wrote for Grant and found it very touching. Really like the two albums they did together. I probably would never had gone to Brisbane had it not been for my love of the Go-Betweens but I'm really glad I did. I was there for such a short time but I felt a real affinity for the city. Since you mentioned Steve, it seems that he may be quitting the Church. :-( Really hope it isn't true. Been a huge Church fan for a lot of years.
Good on you, Nigel. Did you ever read Steve Kilbey's obituary on his blog after Grant died... truly moving and a great insight into what the best of Grant meant .. a true gentleman. It might still be up on the archives of "The Time Being". New Farm to me too is a place with a special feeling. Probably all changed now with gentrification, etc...
Robert Forster could. Even Dostoyevsky... Why do people ... who read Dostoyevsky Look like Dostoyevsky"? - what a corker (Australian idiom and exclamation for something deserving great and positive appreciation.
