The GOAT, The Magnificent...Optimus Prime | ROTF Leader Class Optimus Prime  

Fun fact: It was said by other designers at Takara that the hardest part of designing this toy for Takashi Kunihiro, the lead designer of the toy, was trying to make room for the electronics when he was told he needed them after the fact, and that he "looking paralyzed" when he saw that he needed to have Prime and Jetfire combine.

I remember being gifted this very Optimus Mould in the Summer of 2009. This toy is the stuff of Childhood memories, no toy has topped this single Optimus.

The fact that we got a Masterpeice level transformer at retail for $50 in 2009 still blows my mind.

I remember getting leader Optimus and Megatron for Christmas 09, it was one of the highlights of my childhood. It was like a dream come true to have both the biggest hot button figures and be able to have them duke it out.

Man, this brings me back. I used to bring this figure just about everywhere, never got tired of it.

5:33 I'm glad you mentioned that. As someone who had the original 09 leader prime and recently got an APS01U, those chest panels were so helpful in the transformation. I never had problem transforming the 09 figure even when I had them as a kid more than a decade ago, and I was surprised how difficult it is to transform the one without those panels.

You learn something new everyday. I just thought they changed Optimus' chest because the autobots were just upgrading themselves. I didn't connect that the chest had changed because it got blown out.

While I never had this toy myself, it's still nostalgic to me because I used to watch absurdlyawesome and he used this toy in "Revenge of the Fallen Fallen".

Basically Movie Masterpiece before Movie Masterpiece was a thing

I've got the Takara Jetwing Optimus Prime version which has the big wing back pack and double machine guns. He looks amazing. He doesn't have those arm blades to hinder the arm movement which is another plus.

The front, back and sides of ROTF leader class Peterbilt 379 Optimus Prime ALMOST looks spot-on movie model-accurate in both robot in truck modes. And as for MPM Peterbilt 379 Optimus Prime, he needs a version 2.0 mold.

I remember asking my parents for this so hard back in the day. It was always such a monster to see in toy shelves. I think my parents probably mistook this one for the HFTD Battle Blades Optimus because of how similar they looked and got me that instead. Maybe one day I'll be able to get him.

It says a lot about how good this figure that the MPM Optimus that came out almost a decade after this one is basically a HD remake. One of the best transformers figures ever made imo

I was given this as a kid and I didn’t get much when I was younger as we didn’t have too much money but this bad boy sits on my shelf to this day I remember me and my brother struggling to transform it before we had to leave for dinner and I’ll airways remember it

goddamn it man, I am perfectly fine with my MPM , but seeing your video makes me want to go and get one of these to relive my childhood., This was one of my favorite figures growing up and I wish I would've held on to it over the years. It also really says a lot about the design of the figure when it still hold up to this day.

My dad got this for me when I was little but he returned it because it was to hard for him to transform. I might have to buy one just for the nostalgia. Sucks I missed out on a great figure, but I don’t blame him for it.

My grandpa bought me this from Kmart in 2010, I wish I still had it, god rest his soul. I remember we had such a hard time figuring out how to do the legs for truck mode, back then a leader class was a leader class

the intro bit with the closeups on transformation was cute! wanted to make sure that got noticed

I used to have this guy, except that the swords were replaced with hooks, which I folded up and pretended that they were, in fact, swords. I never had any addons for him, so I opened up those blue back panels, spread them out and pretended that these were wings for his DOTM jetpack. Unfortunately, he kinda broke - snapped in those two thin parts that connected his lower body with his upper body. I miss him...

What's amazing to me is that they did a Voyager version of movie Optimus that had, like, 95% of this transformation, scaled-down, plus a Matrix of Leadership that fit in his guts, and the fuel tank guns. Lost the electronics and the chest flex gimmick, and there was never a Jetfire/flight tech option for that one, but it was STILL awesome to get that iconic transformation in a smaller, more accessible price point.

I opted to go with the Takara Buster Prime+Jetfire set because of the paint apps, but damn... the ROTF line is probably the best that Hasbro has been in terms of price, quality and engineering.

I had this as a teenager. It was one of the very last Transformers I bought. His backpack broke, though, so it made it hard to transform him properly. I sadly ended up throwing him away.

I still have my HFTD version from when I was a kid, it's still one of my favorites in my collection. I remember really struggling to transform him the first time lol

ITS BEEN 13 YEARS AND I STILL HAVEN'T HAD ONE OF THESE AT LEAST IN MY HANDS. I saw this Optimus Prime at Walmart and Toys-R-us as kid and I remember always asking my parents and grandparents if I could get him and I never got it same for the DOTM one too I'm still mad to this very day because I remember drawing this dude, looking at him on shopping manuals, advertising, videos, and transformers websites. I was on the hype train but I never got it and now as an adult I could technically get it but it goes for an even greater price everywhere I look. Dreams shattered...............................................glass ;)

This mold is 10/10 never to be seen again Hasbro mold. This is the only Prime toy I'll ever want. Too perfect. SS versions cannot compare to this.

For me the best deco of this mold was the Buster Optimus Prime from the 2-pack with Leader Jetfire from Takara. It has silver paint, pinstripes on the flames and his gas tanks turn into a gun. Also, I got the 2-pack for about $80 back in 2011. Bonus: The Jetfire it comes with has a great deco as well, without those annoying blue plastics.

Man I had the whole set of revenge of the fallen and dark of the moon transformers. Deluxe class, leader class ect.. my biggest regret in life was selling them all about 5 years ago!! I look back at old tutorial videos about how to transform them and brings bag memories

Man i have a good memory getting this. It was the release of the second movie and the theater was like doing this event or something handing out toys, and my mom made me dress as up in my movie optimus prime holloween costume so they game me leader optimus. I didn’t like it so much as a kid since how big and fidgety he was but i still loved and appreciated it. I do remember abusing that toy so much lol.

This is the first transformer I ever got... at 3 years old. I could not for the life of me get the red bits on the chest to tab in when going into alt mode, and so I just... never transformed it.

I had been a fan of Transformers ever since I was 3 and of course, Optimus Prime was my favorite. Always wanted one but we could never afford it. But finally on my 9th Christmas my Grandpa and Grandma got me this. I was soo happy to finally have an Optimus Prime toy. I know it was only 6 years but to my little child mind it felt like forever lol

I loved this Prime. Probably my 3rd favorite, right behind Cybertron Prime in 2nd and 2001 RID Prime as the king

I remember being gifted the battle damaged version for my first ever Optimus prime and to this day it’s still my favorite and the best Optimus mold in my opinion

Got this guy for Christmas today as a Handmedown from my cousin and I love him and my ONLY gripe of the figure is in my copy is the left spring loaded truck thing it would NOT go in the rail system by the speakers but I DIDNT want to do it but i sanded down a VERY tiny amount so it can go in there Glad i did that fix

I had this toy but I had the one based on the forest fight, with the blacked out chest, damaged headmold and hooks instead of blades. Still was fucking awesome though and I miss it dearly.

We actually have this and been finding videos on how to transform it because it was just a hand me down from my uncle and finnaly we found a video on how to transform it thanks so much for making this video it really help although we still cant transform it because the front wont connect for some reason anyways thanks for making this video it really help us.

I prefer the Buster variant because he had the gimmick of transforming his gas tanks into his Ion Blaster...

I still have my copy of the rotf prime along with DNA’s jet fire combine parts upgrade, it’s still an amazing prices as I still treasure it in my display.

Although damaged I was able to buy this guy for 2 dollars, the only bad thing about him was that he was missing one of the panels that covers up the robot mode parts in truck mode

One time I found one of these in a charity shop. It was a sorry sight to see: Any and all red parts on the torso were gone, One of his energon blades was snapped in two, The part of one of his legs that extends due to transformation was completely gone, and the worst part? HE HAD NO FEET Still bought it tho

I took the head apart numerous times and the light in the neck is engineered to allow a full 360-degree rotation at the neck if it weren't for the truck mode roof sections hindering the range of motion if you have it appropriately collapsed in robot mode.

I got this and the big devastator for Christmas as a 6 yr old. It’s the only transformer I could never transform. Only recently managed to transformer it after a brief break. Sadly it’s now to broke for a proper truck
