@@90DeadTimer Ask Michael that question, not me. He saw him killing in times of war as noble and killing in the mafia as despicable. It also made for an easy transition into the Mafia even though he never wanted to in the beginning.

Frank Sinatra's trouble with "that bandleader" (Tommy Dorsey) was referenced later in the movie, when Tom Hagen argued with Jack Woltz about "giving Johnny that part in your new movie". "And you tell him I ain't no bandleader...".

The smack that Vito gives Johnny Fontane was not in the script. Marlon Brando improvised the smack and Al Martino's confused reaction was real. According to James Caan, "Martino didn't know whether to laugh or cry."

It’s crazy because Al Martino actually only got this part due to his own Godfather pulling some strings for him. The poetry of it all is insane. That Godfather of his was Russ Bufalino, you might know him from the Irishman

It's so perfect and sets so many things up. We see that Michael is ashamed of his family's violent ways, we set up Jonny Fontane, we set up "make him an offer he can't refuse", set up Luca Brasi, and set up the band leader story. All of them have big pay offs.

TBH Michael isnt seen doing extortion and forcing hands in the series. He tries to legitimate the business and he "eliminates" threats. There is truth in the claim that he is different.

Yes, Johnny Fontane is based on a true story about Frank Sinatra. The gangster in real life was Willie Moretti, that did this for Sinatra. Moretti was a Capo of the Genovese families New Jersey faction. This REALLY HAPPENED!

I am impressed with Coppola's calculation and his creative technique. He cast the screaming girls on the front row of the Johnny and those all girls are so ugly looking. Coppola is a real hard-boiled.
