Cinematography in this film was extremely strict due to the low amounts of light used in indoor scenes, to the point where Coppola and the cinematographer, Gordon Willis, had numerous arguments, mostly the former telling the latter that he was being too hard on actors not standing in exactly the right spot. Sometimes it takes a lot of energy to make something seem so effortless.
Also because he needed to open the door because he knew Bonasera would have to leave, watch the later part: Tom is the one who opens the door. Not saying that what you said, i.e. respect, was not the reason why he stood up, that was too. Sometimes humans can have two reasons for the same task, and so did Tom have too at that moment.
Umm coming from an Italian family myself I can comfortably say that in a situation like that....no mafia are needed...just the dad and every uncle and male cousin of that poor girl will be more than enough to handle those boys ;)
The Cat was hanging out at Paramount Studios and Marlon Brando befriended the cat…Francis Ford Coppola put the cat on Marlon’s Lap…and Purred So Loud, The actors had to loop in their dialogues in the both.
In the book it shows how the two punks received their justice. Paulie had two goons hiding and he wen up to them and provoked them to attack him by calling them names. When they did the two goons came out and administered the justice of Don Corleone. Their orders were that they weren't allowed to hit them above the neck so they don't get brain damage as the intent was that they needed to be in their right minds so they could feel the pain they were going to feel every day for a long time. Also, this was a test for the two goons and they were told that if the punks were in the hospital for less than a month or so they would fail the test. Needless to say, they passed the test and justice was done.
The cat held by Marlon Brando in the opening scene was a stray that Coppola found while on the lot at "Paramount Pictures," and was not originally called for in the script. So content was the cat that its purring muffled some of Brando's dialogue and, as a result, most of his lines had to be looped.
The Godfather calls in his favor much later when he asks the undertaker to use all his art to make the bullet riddled body of his son Sonny presentable.
Nazri Buang strict parameters to follow sophisticated internal matters require discussions and views of all members !! makes it more organized and prolific !!
As anyone who has read the book know sonny coreleone bought tom hagen home with him at the age of 11. Does anyone know if there was any thought given to filming that part of the novel or was it maybe filmed and later not used?
@@virgieduhaylongsod5607 Yes, the order in the book is Nazorine the baker, some guy that needs a loan for a pizza oven, Luca Brasi, then finally Bonasera. They changed it up for the movie so they could open on the "I believe in America" speech. Good cinematic choice.
Free will, for all of us, if you can use your free will as how you used it against me, I can use my free will as how I feel like...the thing is you don't show respect...some reason for me to reject you as well, you don't ask with respect!
why does he need to act like he is higher placed than him. not very humble, makes him kiss his hand and then helps. if you ask a position higher for help like an officer, and officer replies kiss my feet... are you kidding me.
@@animalsandus7511 i dont know man i would understand that if bonassera was a relative of the don or was in this mob business, but from what i understand bonassera is just a simple citizen, nothing to do with the mob thing and is not a relative of the don. so i understand the act of being superior towards people lower than you in the mob business and family etc but this guy is not in this thing. just asking for help, don could have reacted like i can do that for you, but then you need to do this for me, instead you need to bow down first... not cool.
@@okayjay7566 it is also a sign of respect. You have to realise that the don would not care if Bonassera is an average citizen or not. He could kill him off in an instant. And Bonassera is asking for a favour from the don, so he needs to be respectful, otherwise he might get into trouble.
@@okayjay7566 That's not how this plays out at all. Corleone asks the people he cares about to not refer to him as Vito or Don or anything formal, but as a friend, as their Godfather, and as someone they can trust to protect their honor. He didn't ask him to bow down, but to kiss the ring, as members of traditional families would do to the patriarch/matriarch. He was not asking him to act like an inferior, but to treat him as a father- his Godfather.
This is a movie mafia, real mafia does such horrofic and disgusting things that would make you scream in horror and run away...some mafia bosses have even killed innocent children for vengeance and dissolved their bodies in acid...
"That I cannot do." But "That" I can do. After I did it. The Law won't send me to hang.. Why you my wonder. Because I'm crazy, that's why. In the highly event the Law send me to hang, I just smile on my way to the gallows and shout "God is great."
I just watched The Godfather for the first time ever (and I'm about the same age as the movie) and just as I expected it was completely confusing, frustrating and annoying. There are so many different characters and I didn't know who quite a few of them were or what was going on. I really could not follow the story. And if I didn't have the subtitles on I would not have caught half of the f***ing dialogue so it would have been much, much worse. I'm not into this subject matter at all - I only watched it to see Marlon Brando.
@@jovanbregu2057. Don't you dare call me stupid. I'm very smart. Maybe you read the book first, which I did not do, and if that's the case then you would know exactly what's going on and who all the characters are.
@@nadiascroce1189 Godfather was, in my opinion, a kinda boring film. I had fallen asleep both times I have attempted to watch it. Goodfellas, on the other hand is a similar film that is much more entertaining and exciting. Godfather is much more slow, and DARK. Thank you Nadia for expressing your contradictory opinions. Disliking a highly rated film like the Godfather, on a platform of sheep, like youtube is, you are brave and to be admired. RESPECT
