Hello Everyone, in this video I introduce you to the famous Stradivarius cello Archinto, this cello has been recently loaned to me by the Stretton society, I’m completely in love with this instrument.
Since my microphone is not top notch I leave you here a few links of tracks where you can listen to the instrument in high quality.

Congrats. I played this cello for one hour, best cello I have ever played on. So musically responsive. The A string especially is magic and gives you a bad sound immediately if you don't control bow pressure perfectly. Relation between left hand pressure and bow pressure has to be extremely refined. Because when you get that right it is so rewarding, the sound is so magic, that the moment you didn't control it optimally the instrument tells you immediately. Such a great teacher. And it reflects the finest differences between the best bows. One Tourte bow I played on it gave endless possibilities, kept opening the sound. Edit : I am fortunate to have played on countless great cellos and bows, at least from what I remember 4 Strads 6-7 Montagnanas and Gofrillers Tecchlers Guarneris Grancinos etc. So you understand when I write this where it comes from. I always was very daring and asked to try everyone's cello and bows, and I love to go to different dealers and luthiers, having a good relationship with quite a few of them. This Archinto Strad is the most musically responsive I have played compared to all those, not to a bunch of more average cellos. My favorite so far. Only regret or dream: I have yet to seriously play on a golden period forma B Strad from the 1710s, which are the most sought after and praised models. Bass of Spain and Batta would be my main dreams because of what the great players who tried everything said about these two, but then also Gorebooth Mara etc. The best Strad instruments are so sensitive, to me they are the best teachers. I prefer forma B models for new cellos also because of that very reason. They don't invite you to press more or enjoy your own sound the way often more gratifying/preferred models do, it is all about the musical responsiveness. The Archinto is not yet forma B and like most of that period it was cut down from a bigger model, but playing wise it may actually be for the better. Strad himself, and then Guadagnini, understood that.

I played it for an hour or so, as well. Back in 2009 or so it was in El Paso for a week or so with Zuill Bailey. He had me play back and forth on the Archinto and his ex-Schneider Gofriller.

The Spotify recordings really show the incredible tone of that cello. Dark but still with a treble sheen that projects. Complex and nuanced. The right cello for you Pablo! Rock on mate!

Great to see this cello in excellent hands! It’s a truly remarkable instrument and is one of the best preserved Stradivari cellos in existence. Did anyone show you the octagonal bushings on the scroll around the pegs? Such a blessing to have it for a lifetime. I hope to see you perform on this cello live someday.

Firstly I want to say how awesome you are on cello. I started following you a couple of yrs ago when you were reviewing the 3 nippon strads. I don't play cello but am a beginner violinist but your playing really inspired me. So much that I saw you playing in London last Dec. You were amazing. I was expecting you to be playing the Lord Ayesford and when you came out with the Archinto I thought it was a modern instrument because it looked so new. It sounded great. Best of luck to you. Hope to see you again in England soon

What a gorgeous piece of art, mounted with strings that are also artistic pieces on their own by the manufacturers, with a bow that is also a piece of art on its own, played artistically to make it to sound the art created by composers. This video is full of exposition of art, of beauty. Keep going!

Pablo, I love your channel, and your playing. I recently bought an older cello (around 1870, French, but with many repairs, and of unknown pedigree)…it’s not a top quality cello but I want it to last a long time, and with all the many repairs, I’d love to hear any tips you have for taking extra good care of an elderly instrument.

sounds like a cello - metal strings amplified by a resonator box (an air cavity in other words)

Absolutely magnificent cello-quite different from the Lord Aylesford and suits you-I would say perfectly. (I never quite liked the Aylesford). This cello certainly opens a new world of music for you, comparable in my mind to the sonority difference between the Isnard Saint-Maximin-la-Sainte-Baume organ and other organs (although there other almost comparable 18th century French organs, the Saint Maximin is outstanding, most of the finest of these organs are qualitatively different from other 'great' organs; they have a real soul) ( I apologize for comparing organs and cellos, but the sound difference is more easily comprehended. Similarly, Leonid Kogan's del Gesu violin is so qualitatively different from so many other violins)
