I think they should just roll the ball for everyone in general. I get your point in regards to us not playing the same equipment as pros but we don’t mind if the pros have better equipment but we don’t to have better equipment that the pros. If Rory or DJ drives the ball 320 with rollbacked golf ball and I drive a ball 320 with a longer ball then I feel like a fraud. I want to see if I can drive the ball 320 with the same ball or a shorter ball to see if I am optimizing my swing to get that distance. And example would be If there was local rule on driver length of 48 inches but the pros played the max length of 46 inches then I would only want to play 46 inches because I want to see how I can become more efficient with my swing.
I can dig it! I've heard that a few times the last day or so, and that makes sense to me. I would be interested in trying out a rolled back ball just to see how different my game would look.
I think they should roll the ball back or perhaps go back to a soft ball, here are my thoughts-televised golf is now VERY boring everyone plays the same way: bomb the ball and hit short irons, there is no drama and no shot making. It is the only ball sport that every competitor doesnt use the same ball in competition. The second reason is the price of golf balls slows down the game-an average player doesnt want to add $15-20 to every round so they are going to look for that lost ball-for a while, when every ball is $5 the average player is going to ball hawk
Let them putt on much less manicured greens once in awhile like we have to & the percentage of holes completed under par will go down. Torrey Pines simply grew the rough & left the greens bouncy. (Otherwise, like all other equipment changes, we amateurs will eventually be required to use the shorter ball to play in amateur tournaments. That will cause us to play them all the time. Short hitters will get shorter. Handicaps will go up equating to slower play, decrease in rounds played, higher prices per round, decrease in average course maintenance, etc). We want MORE people playing so there’s more money to improve our courses. …We should get the help & fun out of the more true rolling greens, less mud & standing water, etc. After all, it’s us who spend the money that keeps the pro tour & regulating bodies in business - we do most of the playing & paying & therefore should get more of the amenities & fun. They work for us!
