I do the same and it’s an endless battle that I’m trying my best not to focus on. I’ve bought brand new and I’ve bought 2 decade old sub 1k mile cars. Lesson learned? Nothing is perfect. Nothing. You’ll always find a flaw. Small scratch there. Dimple in the leather. Some light oxidation. So on and so forth.
Love these videos. Just picked up a new to me 458 (first non-Porsche in 10 years). It's about to get the 10-year-old PPF redone and you have encouraged me to do a full paint correction and polish before the new PPF goes on. Also having had a 992 and numerous 991's, I absolutely agree that 991 is the superior driver's car. 997/991 is really the sweet spot.
I love how obsessed you are about your cars! It makes me feel I’m not the only one ☝️ when I first started watching your videos I was like this guy insane! Then I realized I’m the same way! My wife watches with me and she is like Omg that is you! It’s good to know I’m in good company! Keep up the good work! Look forward to this journey with this car!
The door cups are almost always like that from women who get their nails done. Was a PPF installer, 7-8 years ago. We saw it constantly. Can’t understand how any company installing PPF wouldn’t do the door cups though. Even cars that came in for hood and bumper, we did the door cups for free
I really enjoyed the lava orange gt3 rs that Adam LZ had. This car does seem to be the pinnacle of Porsche in my opinion. Very nice choice, i am excited to hear it
Sucks the paint is jacked up underneath but happy to get more content of the gt3. The good thing is you'll know for sure it's completely dialed in once it's done. Og spec 💪
N-914 is the best, period. Will it always be the best no, that’s just how the world works. But it’s ability to be used in many application and not leave behind residue or protection which makes it prefect for polish removal (drys fast in AZ), screens (including computer and flat screens), glass and even indoor use like appliances. I even have a 2oz bottle I carry around for my sunglasses. N-914 is a must buy!
@@allen624if I'm not mistaken I thought he just talked about using DIY detail rinseless wash in one of his last wash and talks briefly, but hasn't quite done a review. Again I'm not sure that it was V2 but I think it's fair to assume he wouldn't give it a try without making sure it's the newest and utilized as intended since he has most of those companies owners number saved in his phone for any questions.
@@ObsessedGarageI didn't like the first version of DIY rinseless, but the new version they just came out with (it's opaque) is pretty stout. Definite improvement over N914.
n-914 is just so clean and doesn't fool around. I have a tendency to stay away from products that invade all my social media feeds. The constant shilling is a huge turn off to me, thats why OG is a great place, they're not on anyone's payroll, it either works or gets punted. Mckees and CSL/EVO has been magical and it will take a lot to pull me away! If you want something a lil more silky, theres absolute, but if you are coated, n-914 is untouchable.
First time I polished and coated PPF I discovered the coated plastic was really susceptible to stubborn water spotting. I had to re-polish and re-coat to get water spots off from just one day driving in the rain. Don’t know if it was unique to the brand of coating or something else, but ugh.
So I completely appreciate wearing the Rolex as I’m a fellow watch enthusiast in the same way I’m a Porsche enthusiast, but do you ever have concerns about it brushing against the car? Whenever I start detailing my cars I always take any jewelry I’m wearing off to prevent any accidental scratches.
Couldn't agree more on the door handles scratches. There's no reason for your nails to touch the door handle cups. I open and close the door with the handle only, use your brain people!
Am I doing any PPF for my new M4 that I have coming sick and tired of spinning thousands of dollars on PPF I’m gonna enjoy the car driving on the weekend and use the proper products
Have you considered linking the tools you use in each video to your website for people to buy? I'm interested in that yellow polisher you used for the window, but I don't know what it is or what to search for.
I polished parts of my PPF(xpel) 2 years ago! Turned out great! However you mentioned the film will not last as per advertised. E.g your cars that are parked inside most of the time and well kept surely the film should last many years, no? Sure if the film gets damaged by debree etc thats one thing. Have had the Xpel now on mine since april 2020 and it still looks great (garage kept) but have 21000km on it now. The GT3 is 🔥
No, I don't like schedules when it comes to creating. I think you lose the authenticity. I only want to make a video when I have something to say that may be of value.
Maybe clarify why you would replace the PPF after only a few years. After 11 years on my ZL1 it is ready from replacement. It’s no longer self healing. Now with that said, I only have 18k miles on the PPF and it sits in a heated and cooled gargle 99% of the time.
I've been told that you can sometimes remove paint when you try and remove old PPF? Certainly some paints are probably better than others. Not sure what you can do to minimize that.
I added this up the other day. I’m lifetime break even due to the sale and appreciation of my .2 and 992. Those two wiped out all my losses. If you count car giveaways, I am about a million positive.
How could you tell it wasn’t polished underneath? In my experience PPF hides some crazy scratches. I once sanded a test panel with 1500 grit and slapped some film on top and it looked perfect. Or do you need a very warm light source to see?
@@ObsessedGaragethats crazy, only time I’ve see that is when the scratches were deep. We just pulled film off a car and it was full of rotary hologramming under the film that you couldn’t see when the film was in place.
Matt we all make mistakes with car purchases. Enjoy the car at the $260k you justified paying and sell it. Don’t sink anymore good energy into it brother. You better make your .1 vs .2 video. I won’t be agreeing with it but I’m sure you’ll make it fun to watch. My .2 is the same color as your .2 lizard green and all but with Green calipers
Did I miss what brand PPF this car has? My GT350R was really swirled up when I bought it, it has no PPF. I’m a Llumar Platinum installer (same film as Suntek Ultra), put that film on and saw 0 swirls. Suntek, Llumar, Xpel, etc should not let swirls show through the film unless it’s something REALLY bad.
Having some more time to watch the video, I’d say Matt screw it just have fun with the car. Enjoy it don’t worry about if you can’t see it in the sun or in your shop lights that much don’t worry about it. You can eventually decide if you want to rip the PPF off and either reapply or don’t, I was getting like that with the ISF after the previous guy paid all this money for Cquartz finest and then ran the stupid thing through car washes, I decided screw it I’ll just correct the paint take as much of resin based coating off as I can and I’ll just stick with Jes car Ultra lock, you know I got the paint to about 80% of where I would like it…..everybody comes up to me and asked me about the paint and every time they see one of these cars they’re jacked up and I have one of the cleanest cars around in this model line.
Man as great as this RS is I'd really reconsider dumping 40 grand into it to make it Moreman spec. Maybe there's another one out there that isn't as jacked up. And on top of that maybe it's red..
Geez eh! To bad on the swirls under the PPF. I doubt that the yellow pad with the perfect finish is enough to pull off the self healing layer on the PPF. I think if anything your just giving it a nice deep clean and allowing it to self heal back to perfection
@@timkinley1779 it absolutely works pal. Minor scratches and swirls basically get erased when the PPF is exposed to sun or heat. The technology has been around for some time now
If you have them paint the quarter panel with the chip. How far do you take it for painting? Do you have them pull the door off, fender, glass, etc so the new clear is up to the edges of the pinch welds? Especially the roof you are re clearing the other side of the car/quarter panel? Just curious since you wanted perfection. Do you take it that far on the painting process too?
A few have requested that they'd prefer to have all of the Hex content on RU-vid native app as it's easier to consume versus the site, so we just made it available here.
Hey Matt, pro tip; rinse the clay/decon pad every once in a bucket of rinseless wash to rinse the contaminants from it and prevent buildup. Maybe you did that off camera..If not, you’re essentially marring the paint more and more the further you go lol. I know the perforated design helps to trap it away from the surface but it definitely doesn’t solve the problem entirely. Love the car man, one day I will polish my PPF.
Well, not sure what source you are reading. You can absolutely clay/polish PPF. You just want to be cognizant of edges. Stick with me brother, I'll lead you toward what you need to know and how to do it.
@@ObsessedGarage I have full body STEK PPF and their website suggests not to do it. Perhaps they’re just being cautious. I have read it in other places as well. Your car looks great man Cheers
Compared to some other vehicles. Not much torque down low. But once it gets up in the revs.... the fun starts. You gotta put your foot to the floor to get it uncivilized.
@ObsessedGarage You need to say that more often. Every vehicle doesn't need every step every time. Once you've seen enough of them, you'll begin to realize that less is more.
@@timkinley1779 the only step that I would possibly skip could be using the clay bar. Other than that you should always iron decon if you’re going to apply a ceramic coating. I don’t see why you wouldn’t? Why take the chance after doing all that work?
So you're telling me that if you Polish or compound PPF, you're still going to get self healing for minor marring and hydrophobics (on ppfs that claim to have a coating like stek)?
I'll just leave this here for you. chrome-extension://efaidnbmnnnibpcajpcglclefindmkaj/dfmm8fty2renf.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/stek-dyno-shield-technical-data-sheet.pdf
@@ObsessedGarage we tested it you are being lied to. It’s BS marketing. Get it tested yourself, I’ll leave that for you. Or you could just keep on being just a RU-vidr 🤷♂️
If Matt starts including certain watches, I'll have to re-evaluate my spending habits. Throw a "panda, panda, panda" in and I'll be moving some coinage around.
