Hi James, with that injector problem pouring fuel into cylinder 2, some of the fuel may have found its way into the oil. It's might be a good idea to a Oil and filter change. If the oil is contaminated with fuel it won't work as it should. Cheers mate. Tim.
Tim Osmond I’d be concerned about bore wash too. With the amount of fuel James has described it’s possible the fuel may have washed off the protective layer of oil in the bore. I’d certainly want the bore checking for any scoring. The oil will be very black and have a shine to it if it’s contaminated with fuel. You may even be able to smell it.
Someone on the golfmk7 forum has a similar issue on a Cupra 300. It sounds like a failed injector return spring. But like others said, replace the oil and filter as well as change the injector
This is why I dont tune my cars no more. A never ending problem. I respect it I love watching someone else doing it but never again. Hope you get it right mate good luck.
@@jamesr50 it becomes addictive tho. I tuned my focus st 225 got it to 350bhp. Spent 10k on it in 6 months it just got out of hand. Misses put her foot down lol. Now I got a bmw 650i v8
Just wanna give you some advice. If you know you broke your low pressure fuel pump and needed a replacement, then you should wait for the part and park off the car. Fuel starvation is what kills these cars. Driving it broken like that will eventually lead to your car's engine breaking the piston ring landings which is a known issue on VW engines. And it happens from detonation. Basically - Running too lean - Too little fuel entering there.
James, I fully support anyone modifying their car to their heart's content. In my time I've modified quite a few. However, doing home mods to a Stage 3 is a recipe for "teething problems". I'd hardly blame the Golf R for the issues you're having. Done by a professional so that everything is matched and balanced will certainly result in improved performance, but even then loads on the engine are greater and reliability will suffer - on any car. I own a 2018 Golf R (and owned a GTI before it) and have never had a single problem with either. I'm a mechanical engineer and I wouldn't mod either to Stage 3 without knowledgeable help. Not being critical of your desire to work on it yourself - I heartily endorse that, but things you are doing have consequences. Good luck!
Chuck Fralick I will say when I said “friend” well he’s a professional and knows exactly what he’s doing tbh his a wizard when it comes to cars and tuning that’s his job it’s what he does, the problem was where the LPFP needed modifying (drilling) well that cracked cos it’s so brittle it’s not holing fuel it leaks into the tank but that will be sorted and Itll be a ok this week I’ll keep everyone updated, and I will say these cars are very reliable it’s the mods that push them beyond their reliable limits and Thankyou
Give you props for cause your modest and honest guy, but keep it in mind you try to mods your car slowly base on you know budget. That is more gonna happen, high performance car are made to be tune for you to see or feel some HP out of whatever you just put on your car. So my point is if you gonna mod your car, do it once and so it the right way. Sure it will cost you an arm and a leg, but that's how it is having and building a high HP type of car or for just owning a car like that for that matter right? Hey you could have bought your self a Type R but if you gonna do one step at a time and no tuning each time guess what, you'll find your self in the same scenario and that I guaranty you.
I had the same misfire on my 16 Golf R (manual) when it suddenly appeared to be running on only three cylinders. It started while I was on my way to a breakfast meeting. It was very unsettling because I didn't know what was happening. I cancelled my meeting and drove 25 miles (fortunately without it dying on me as I fought to keep the revs up) straight to the VW dealer who put me into a loaner and sent me on my way. They diagnosed it right away and it took only a few hours to fix it, getting it back same day. It did cost me over $500 for a set of plugs and coils. It's been fine ever since. BTW, I have APR Stage 2 which has been otherwise extremely reliable.
Love this video! I have the exact same on my car now and im loving it. I had to have it back in the garage today as one of the bolts came loose that held the mount up and the exhaust was hanging from the one side. It's been replaced with a new bolt etc. Has anyone else had this problem as I would prefer not to be in and out of the garage all the time?
I'm having the exact same problem. Launch control then plumes of white smoke. Epc light on then turn car off back on then sorted. Can you link the part numbers for the upper and lower injectors.
Mate. If your stage 3, you need OEM Audi R8 coils ($100 for a set) + NGK Spark plugs ($50 set). R8 coils run hotter and NGK plugs are efficient. Swap them all out. This will solve your problem. Reply if this solves your problem.
Fender Bender you don’t need the R8 coils. R8 coils don’t run hotter, they provide a stronger spark. You do need spark plugs one step colder on the heat range.
@@jamesr50 Same when using launch control or drag racing fuel starvation happens quite easily in VW,Porsche and Audis when below half a tank.I hope your turbo upgrade goes well.
Lol.. i fill mine when it's past empty and on fumes and have done with every car for the last 20 years with no issue and not once has my golf r or any of my cars been in for warranty work for it (currently on 57k miles on the R with vw warranty still).. fuel surge only happens when pulling well over 1g in bends (not possible in an r with road setup) when fuel is low its will never be an issue on the road and is tested by the manufacturer so much so that even in the handbook they dont state to fill early and if they could tell you to they would, on hills the baffles in the tank are designed so fuel surge doesn't happen at all as the baffles direct fuel in to the sender and these are tested to hell and back during r&d since about 1980 lol when it was an issue on old carbd cars, i have a £2000 external fuel setup in my boot on my track/rally car running 560 hp and the only reason i fitted that was running serious g in the bends. I bet you fill early also so all the crap at the bottom of the tank doesn't enter the engine right😂😂
Hi I have a golf r ready for stage 2 front mount cooler decat full exhaust custom. R600 intake with elbow and muffler. I keep getting overboost codes ??? Is this because all the parts need mapped in
Nice it’ll be awesome when it’s mapped💥 I’m not really sure but it would make sense the air to fuel ratio has been changed and the map is stock it’s intaking lots of air and it’s a lot more back pressure on the exhaust I’d highly recommend getting it mapped with a tuning company with a dyno because they 100% tell you the reason why and it’ll benefit so much from the map👍🏻
Vw and the epc light,I had a problem with my epc light wen I put a racechip on my car,it would go in to limp mode wen driving hard, take it off and it was fine.
