That ending was one of the greatest plot twists I have ever seen. Nobody would’ve guessed it at first, but when you go back and analyze ronald from start to finish it starts to kind of make sense

Anyone watching in 2019?

This could have been a great movie. It tackles important issues and the character ensemble fit together well. Important scenes were cut back or left on the cutting-room floor. The difference between real life and fiction is that fiction has to be believable. The plot asked us to be too forgiving. As Samuel Goldwyn said, let's have some new clichés. But I liked it.

I wanna read the comments but at the same time I don't wanna see any spoilers😖 Okay my predictions for the film: The teacher kidnapped her but has a split personality and doesn't remember doing it or the dad did it just to use it to sell more cars Omg what if the photography girl did it out of jealousy?? What if the neighbor that lives with him did it 🤯 Edit: okay I just finished this and wtf

Yep a hidden gem, good script well executed with competent actors!

Surprisingly, I liked this movie even though I agree with Martha about the 'creepiness'. I had a bit of a let down near the end when I thought there were too many questions unanswered and thought the Dad was the culprit...until the final scene of course as the teacher and neighbor drove off into the sunset... There are a couple of questions that were not answered and left me scratching my head: i.e. 1. The picture taken of the student kissing the teacher had to have been taken by the student from the video store...and thus she was on the property after the kidnapped student was dropped off. Why wasn't she involved, or at least knew who the kidnapper was? 2. I thought it was the Dad but his reaction to his daughter left on his bed at the end was not consistant with that. 3. The teacher offered his entire life's savings for the return of the kidnapped student...how did he think THAT would pan out???? 4. When he delivered the ransom to the faux kidnapper why did he ask for the location of the kidnapped girl??? and finally 5. Where in the world did he keep the kidnapped girl? esp...where nobody would find her? With that being said I guess there's a place, in movies, to NOT answer all the questions and let the audience keep guessing...especially in this case when the answer to "Who did it" wasn't really answered until the final scene! I'd give it a thumbs up.

A brilliant story full of creepy characters and so well acted. I have the feeling that the girl knew who kidnapped her and understood why. A fascinating twist to the plot. Thoroughly enjoyed it!

I only watched the movie cause Hayden is one of my favorite actresses. She's such a great person. Watched this in 2017. And now she has kids of her own. Lol I love life and how it works.

There is so much that goes on in this movie if you actually watch it. For those of you who did than your mind might be doing "WHAT?!". I have seen many people suggest possibilities of what the end result was, but here is what we can conclude; #1. Ally's dad completely was only out for himself. #2. Mr. Gibbs gives conflicting information about his single life such as he is divorced, but than says his wife died. #3. The bar lady (the one whom he leaves on the "trip" with) seems to have a bit of a handle on Gibbs such as when she gives him a $5 beer instead of giving him what he asked for or offering something close to what drink he wanted. She also was offering him meals and we only find this out when he rejects her dinner offering. I know we are lead to believe she was just the kind "girl next door", but something tells me these two have been in relationship, just for some reason did their best to seem like they weren't. Maybe to avoid some prior legal issues from their past. We all know how much teachers generally make and he had not been in that school long enough to have earned $68 grand in savings. Now, here is the big part... at the end we see him drive off as this women and him are diving away we see his hand come out the driver's side window and release the tuff of hair cut from Ally's head while she was still kidnapped. Now, her father is who I thought did it because he seemed very carefree about the missing of his daughter. He used to in order to sell more autos. He also shot Ally's boyfriend when he went and met Gibbs at the bowling alley. Was it to get the money from Gibbs? I think Ally's father wanted that money so he talked Ally's boyfriend into grabbing the cash and when he seen it wasn't working out, he shot Ally's boyfriend in hopes it would keep him from talking. Anyway, the big question is why Gibbs did this! Did he do it because he was highly attracted to her and once she kissed him he kidnapped her to keep her safe from her boyfriend and also so he could work through his lust issues for a teenager to whom he shouldn't be doing anything with as it is? We only see and can conclude that each time a person entered the room she was kept in that the person did not talk, face completely covered. This makes me wonder if the person whom entered the room was the same person every time. Again, something tells me the older bar lady was in on this. Maybe Gibbs kidnapped her to have her near while he got this lust out of the system with the bar lady. You know, have Ally there, get massively turned on by her and to combat doing anything with Ally, take his sexual aggregation out on someone whom in some ways matched her looks and build and, but was legal. He let her go once he got what he needed out of his system. My final though even though I can't really piece it together via the movie, but maybe Ally's father wanted Ally to go missing because he wanted to boost his sales. So, he somehow offered the truck to Gibbs if he would kidnap his daughter and keep her hidden for a period of time. As time went by and Gibbs ended up with cops in his face he got cold feet and wanted out without facing legal issues which is why he told Ally's father to take the truck back because he didn't want anything more to do with the situation. I think at that point Ally's dad took over her care and he kept her kidnapped for awhile longer because he was making money, screwing teen girl plus her mother. He was enjoying this. So, I don't think Gibbs was doing this all on his own.

I watched this movie because the comment section said it was great. The comment section lied.

So from this story , both Ally’s dad,the teacher and Ally’s boyfriend have hands in this kidnapped situation….you can see that Ally’s father did not take the money the teacher wanted to use to buy the car cause he offered him the free car In exchange for him to kidnap his daughter so it will boost his sales… for the teacher to kidnap Ally the boyfriend needed to break up with her so that the teacher will Ofer to give her a ride home so he will be able to kidnap her… so that was the reason why the teacher went to give back the car Ally’s father dashed him to stop the rumors that it was him that directly kidnap the girl because of the news that came up that they were kissing or kissed before she got missing

A film with a bit of an edge. This is a nice watch. Good story line and good ending. Thanks for the upload. Popcornflix rocks!!!!!!

I see the ending, but they really got us with the fast food orders. Ally said she didn’t eat fast food. The dad was buying it for his young lover lolol. The boyfriend bought two cheesesteaks, probably for himself. Was it the teacher who handed the food to Ally, the boyfriend, the janitor? Did he work alone? …The teacher started a fight with camera girl knowing she would drive off to the dad’s and deliver the note. Genius writing. I think Ally knows it was him, and she still adores both versions, good and bad. After all, she “earned” an A in history and got the point he tried to make about Lincoln. Kidnapping her helps him to transform and be a better man. But in all fairness this type of story only works for white people. But y’all aren’t ready for that discussion. ✌🏽

There are some serious plot holes in this one. For example, if Amber was there to take the picture of Ally and the teacher, why did the cops never question her? Clearly *she* was the last one to see Ally, and she was at the scene of the crime.

Tim Daly could play a very good Ted Bundy. I believe he's a bit too old for that now, but just a thought. And as a history major myself, he strikes a familiar chord...comes alive when talking about history but kinda aspie at other times. Except, this guy turned more articulate and assertive after the girl's kidnapping.

The police was good, their first suspect was the teacher. First I thought maybe the janitor, but later I blamed the father.

So, if it was Mr Gibbs who kidnapped her, then who gave her the cheeseburgers (the father and boyfriend both ordered takeaways). Coz if it was one of them, then that means they were in on it. That is not what I expected. Good film. So, why was it called "The Good Student?" It had nothing to do with that. I thought the student with black hair was the kidnapper, because of jealousy.

"The Good Student"? "The Perverted Professor" would be more apropos.

At first I thought it was the janitor bc how he looked at that guy and then I thought it was her bf and then thought it was the teacher but then thought it was her own dad but the ending shocked me it was him all along

Interestingly, the main actor here, Tim Daly, looks very much like the late singer//songwriter Joe South. In the movie, the teacher says that even someone like Lincoln needed a partner to make himself whole. The sad fact is that Lincoln's wife, Mary Todd Lincoln, was a bonafide nutcase and Lincoln threatened more than once to have her committed to a Sanatorium for her own safety.
