My absolute favorite memory from this game was doing the He Fei battle and getting 360 no scoped by a crossbowman that i couldn't even see because of the draw distance lmao. I love this game, it is a bit rough, but oh man, i love it.
One thing I will say is annoying is grabbing items on horseback. You have to get off the horse to grab the item. And if you have archers in the towers you can’t see, your just in a constant loop of arrow fire
I think one thing I love about DW3 that I guess could be incorporated into replayability, but personally I think is deserving of its own praise is the freedom in approaches you can take to complete battles. There are often so many different ways the battles can play out depending on who you play as or what you choose to prioritize. Like Chang Ban as an example, if you play as Zhang Liao or Xiahou Dun you start out in the really wide area in the upper right, but if you start as Xiahou Yuan you start somewhere completely different and that drastically affects your experience playing the level. And each battle has aspects like this which adds a ton of replayability.
Ahhh I didnt even think about that as the modern games, you kind of start in the same spot regardless, playing different characters placed you in different areas, thats a good oen
my favorite thing about dw3 is how some of the character unlocks require more than just beating a stage. back then nobody i knew had access to the internet so i was kinda stumped when i had beaten all the musou modes and there were still 4 characters missing - taishi ci, sun quan, meng huo and lu bu. i remember there being one mission where you had to kill taishi ci and on one of my replays i just played around a bit with sun ce and tried things which led to taishi ci surrendering and joining wu during the mission, which in turn unlocked him after beating the stage. that stuff blew my mind as a kid. if i remember correctly for sun quan you had to chase him with zhang liao until he jumped over a bridge with his horse in one stage and with meng huo you had to chase him around the entire stage or something. took a long time to figure out but i was proud to have gotten them all without help. another core memory with the game is playing the last stage of lu xun's musou mode on hard, with all stats on lu xun maxed, and then getting oneshot by archers in the top right corner of the map, restarting the map and beating that part only to then get oneshot from full life by cao cao's musou attack. great game, very memorable for sure.
I'll never forget going on Game FAQs and printing out every single 4th weapon and grinding to get them all. It was so worth it and then when they released the Xtreme Legends expansion getting the 5th weapon was mind blowing. The instant kill effect on some of the characters weapon was absolutely broken and i loved it. God still to this day I'm sad because i lost my memory card at my cousins house when i was staying for the summer! Definitely would love to grind this again if i had it
The best thing about this game for me was seining and playing as Diaochan. It was my first time seeing this game series and I was 7 and gay so she was just a powerful pretty woman you didn’t see much of so when my dad played the game and ran into her it was always an event haha. I grew to really love her character and her history as I grew up and did my own research. Versus mode and co op was the best things-to play on the game when me and my brother actually played 😂I wish they would bring back this specific selection screen and map system I wanna track my movements again 😂
The first game i bought was 4 but three was the one that introduced me to DW. I had a disc that had a bunch of demos and one of the demos wqs DW3 the nanman stage. I was so impressed with it that i eventually got 4. I did eventually play 3 ad 3xl and they were very good and enjoyable truly the golden age.
I started part 3 back then and had a lot of fun. Gambled a lot with friends or my father. The fact that it had German dubbing made it just perfect for me. You were still young and couldn't really speak English. A great start to this series. My favorite part remains DW 3 and XL.
Heard this is one of the best. Never got to experience it unfortunately lol. Played 2 & 5 at my cousin’s house. Bought 5xl, 6, 6 empires, 7, 7 empires, and 8
Another bad thing: your character gets locked in attacking in a single directions once one of your hit connects on a target. This makes the game artificially challenging when trying to do combos on enemy generals.
Gan Ning had the fucking strongest Musou attack for no reason and it was so fun to get the infinite musou for 10 seconds and using the item that gave you your "True Musou" aka low health Musou attack and just slaughtering EVERYTHING at mach 3 :D
The dubbing in Dynasty Warriors 3 is very funny. As a Brazilian, I can say that I have never seen these names pronounced in such a "Portuguese language" way as in this version lol
Some characters are decent but have a bad habit of missing their target completely when they get set into a combination. Some fourth weapons are almost impossible to get without a second player.
Based on the thumbnail: The Good & The Bad & The Cow Cow The most things i get annoyed with in the old PS2 games are the healing of the enemy officers and blocking your musou attack like it's a normal attack or nothing at all. 16:01 "I am SaaAAOOOOuuu YOUUnn! OMEGALUL This is why i would put Blocking Musou Attacks into BAD. Because Musou is your strongest attack available to you. It's a nitpick bad pretty much because i think at DW6 Musou attacks got unblockable.
Its completely dependant on the characters stats, a stronger character can shield break a weaker character, even with a standard attack if there is enough disparity. On higher difficulties you will start to experience enemy lords that can shield break you easier than you can to them. I like it personally, a good dynamic system imo
After only having about a year with this game, it makes me wish I included it with 4 and 5 in my childhood/pre teen years. I tend to notice some flaws allot more, like the atrocious OP crossbow archers which can and will ruin a good running stage for me, the jankiness in areas when compared to 4 and 5, and some of the maps being a bit too cluttered and confusing to navigate. But one thing I'll say, is that the moment to moment gameplay is the BEST in the series hands down. It is a blast to grind your characters and start to shred through previously OP peons once you get a 4th weapon and good items. The combat in this game is so rewarding and the feeling of the hack and slash in general is perfect. I wish they would have kept this specific combat system in later entries because the fun factor is off the charts when you get into the grove and leveling up. It's a solid 7.5/10 for me. I still find it to be a bit more difficult than 4 in the late game on hard difficulty, but it doesn't ruin my experience. The voice acting and cutscenes in it are iconic, and my favorite part of the game. While I'd play 4 and 5 over it, I still recognize that Dynasty Warriors would be nothing without 3.
Dynasty Warriors 3 is the best and hardest difficulty in the series and if you want the ultimate experience and challenge play on very hard with Dynasty Warriors 3 XL. Talk about getting your ass handed to ya lol 😆
@@TheNightowlGaming gate captains were great, the game was hard especially when you just start out at hu lou gate…. I love how you have to beat everyone’s story individually even tho some don’t make it to the end, opening all 4 weapons and items mattered… dislikes for me are not as many maps I would say, the once in a while lag…. New games don’t compare to this one
One thing that didn't age well was the pop in. Enemies disappearing and reappearing, especially when you're combo'ing them was some of the most frustrating moments in the game.
@@TheNightowlGaming happens often if you get a bunch of friendly forces fighting an enemy group theres just too many and it culls some. Let me tell you, an invisible Lu Bu is a terrifying thing
To this day, Sima Yi tanking an arrow shot grazing his face in the He Fei castle battle intro cutscene is the hardest thing ever. He literally got hit and bloody and did not flinch at all. 👀💯 Second is of course dw4 when Xiahou Dun got shot in the eye and pulled it out and ate his eye.
It's probably my favourite game of all time so I'm bias when trying to review. I'm at the point where even the objectively bad parts of the game are fondly remembered by me haha!
You’re missing Nu Wa from the character selection. You can unlock by Clear Musou Mode with all 4 female characters (Sun Shang Xiang, Da Qiao, Xiao Qiao & Zhen Ji)
Recently started playing through DW3 again doing the Retroachievements for the game and having a blast. Was also my first game in the series when I was in elementary school.
Also: if you have bodyguards that are melee (sword, pike, spear) and there are allies near by or fighting next to you, your bodyguards turn into mindless npcs and RARELY attack (circle movement). if you are alone with your bodyguards, they go wild.
Well this is certainly a different kind of video, and tbh even though dw3 will always be my favorite in the franchise I can't deny the flaws that it has despite being one of the biggest parts of my childhood.
@@TheNightowlGaming if only we could get a port of it or something that would be nice I would love to be able to play it on a newer console like my ps4 but that's kinda wishful thinking at this point, I can still hope though!
My only bad I remember is that when you start an attack chain, you are LOCKED in and can't turn because the enemy flanks you. A lot of bail outs at Charge 2 or 3 when I wanted to do more.
I remember beating Musou mode with Sun Juan. Then when I played as Cao Cao; I was fighting Sun Juan at He Fei Castle, and basically Every Wu boss on 1 stage. EPIC
Tong Gate (Allied Forces) was my favorite stage on DW3. I had great memories. Plus Arena plays after defeating Han Sui. My rating for this game is a 9.5/10
I still whip out the PS2 from time to time and turn this bad boy on. Sure, its not as "smooth and buttery" as the later games, but this is still in my top 5 in the main series. I love it, i wish we went back to this formula.
They need to re do this game with all new character, unique weapons and new levels, with bodyguards and the warrior gates at the corners. For me this was the BEST dynasty warriors where you can really feel the evolution of the character and the dificulty of the levels, not only a massive hack and slash game
@@TheNightowlGamingYes! This game and maybe dw4 was the last where it was played like an actual battlefield and helping your allies really mattered since you can't really solo the whole map on harder difficulties. 💯
Your warriors 2 vid and this one is why I subbed lol not new to warriors because of the Nintendo spin offs, but I'm trying to get into this series and I'm currently vibing with this channel and series lol
My favorite game is Xtreme Legends 3 and lemme tell you that playing on the hardest difficulty in Chi Bi w/ Dong Zhuo's forces was grueling. Running from enemy forces was inevitable.
Yes! DW3XL on very hard mode is easily the most fair, but difficult mode in the entire series! You still get generous health drops, but man the troops let alone the generals are very beefed up even at max stats! I enjoy the challenge to this day.
