@eymaslacker

Its just all engineering and physics. EVs simply has ridiculous acceleration compared to petrol cars by the way they work, meaning any turn will give it an advantage. More turns and more severe turns = more advantage. This was already known when hybrids were rising but no one cared to talk about it. Its just the masses now seeing full EVs in action and getting the fact thrown in their faces. Give it a bit more time and EVs will win on the straight roads as well as their max speeds catch up with petrol cars
@archiefleming652
@archiefleming652 2 месяца назад
@eymaslacker for a longer range between recharge you need a bigger battery which means more weight Don't talk about new types of battery until & if they actually come. If an EV catches fire they will have to close the circuit for hours.

Also, so much of F1 is about aerodynamics, tire management, set up and plain consistent skill of the driver. Now, despite there being multiple engine manufacturers and 10 individual teams, the cars are often all within a second or so of each other for lap times. The power unit itself is important but it's only part of the equation.

It must be for increased downforce, as you say, but the air must go somewhere and out the back makes sense. Properly ducted, it doesn't really matter where the fan is - so maybe this is why Sam thinks the fan is pushing the car along.
@bigskygeneration4474
@bigskygeneration4474 2 месяца назад
No, he said it had a fan. He didn't say what the fan does. The fan is for traction. It is placed in the rear of the car to keep the rear end planted. It is actually vacuum as it creates suction and vents the air up and outward. This is why it is illegal. It is also highly impractical to get in and out of. A big part of motor racing has been the sound - the exhaust notes of various engine configurations and the Doppler effect as the cars/motorcycles zoom past. Those of us who grew up with this will sorely miss it. BEVs are good for sprint racing measured ins seconds and minutes: drag strip, Goodwood, Pikes Peak, Nurburgring, etc. But they're a long way from the hour-long Formula I race, let alone the 24 hrs of LeMans or Sebring. Cars in these races use hybrid systems, and perhaps the proportion of battery power could be increased. Another option is to have really really fast batter-swap pitstops. F1 can change four tires in 2 seconds, how fast could they change battery packs? Or how about inductive charging wires buried in the racetrack?

A heat wave that brought dangerously high temperatures near 110 degrees to some inland parts of Washington State, Oregon and Idaho this weekend is forecast to recede for some areas early this week, but not in Boise, Idaho, where Sunday’s high of 108 degrees broke the daily record. Parts of the three states, along with northern Nevada, encountered blistering heat once again on Sunday, the continuation of a hot July for the whole region, where extreme heat was linked to hundreds of deaths in 2021. In Boise, Sunday’s high of 108 degrees also made it the 14th straight day with highs of 99 degrees or above in southern Idaho, said Les Colin, a senior forecaster at the National Weather Service office in Boise. On most of those days, the temperature was above 100. One marker of how long the area has been broiling: The Boise Farmers Market closed early for the second Saturday in a row, to keep vendors safe in the heat. If forecasts hold, Thursday will be the 10th straight 100-degree day, a record for the number of consecutive days with triple-digit temperatures in the city. In Spokane, Wash., the high reached 106 degrees on Sunday, and triple-digit temperatures are forecast to continue Monday. After that, a dry cold front is expected to bring cooler temperatures. Early Sunday afternoon, the temperature outside was 101 degrees. Rooms without air- conditioners felt anywhere from five to 15 degrees hotter without a window unit.

There is so much misinformation in this video its laughable. The production car record for the Nurburgring was set by the Mercedes AMG One. The non production record was set by the Porsche EVO. The Goodwood event the Ford was entered in was the hill climb. The McMurtry single seater uses its uses fan to generate downforce and grip, A technology that was first demoed in Jim Hall's Chapparal 2J in 1970. As far as pure EVs and ICE/Hybrid in Formula One goes the pure EV might give it ago in one lap but that's it. Battery swap? The fastest F1 swap is 1.8 seconds. The average is 2.5 seconds. I'm not an ICE advocate nor am I a EV advocate but until the charging infrastructure reaches the level of gas/diesel in the US, EVs will remain a small portion of the total US market. The Tesla sold 8800 cybertruck in the last qtr. Ford sold 191,561 for the last qtr. But you can back out 7900 Ford F150 Lightenings.

Plus the last 4 years FE top speeds have increased, while the F1 top speeds are stagnant. By Gen4 or 5, FE will be faster. Noise? F1 is getting quieter, with FE getting noisier! 😅 Those Gen3 gear boxes scream like a auto exec looking at their profits! With acceleration and speed being what drives racing teams, everything will eventually change over.

"Range anxiety, pathetic charging network, ridiculous charging times" - Not an issue at all where I live and it's getting better at an excellent rate anyway. About 85% of charging happens at home anyway, often for free by our rooftop solar. "soulless, emotionless" - Totally subjective comment, but your arguments are full of emotion and little on substance. "destroying the environment and poor brown people’s health," - Even IF that were the case, you never poked your head out of the trenches to support environmental causes before I am tipping. "one slight ding to the battery casing and it’s an insurance write off," - You need to stop making up absolute narratives. You need to research EV crash test data showing the outcome for the batteries. "eye-watering costs to replace batteries, battery health quickly deteriorates" - Tell every one what the warranties are on EV batteries. Oh yeah, that's right, you don't know. Plus the cost of batteries continues on a downward trajectory anyway and is forecast to sustain that trend. "they have inextinguishable fires" - But are around 20 times LESS likely to catch fire than ICE vehicles. Statistics are available from the insurance sector and transport safety boards in various countries. Plus have you seen a vehicle fire of any of vehicle type? Pretty much not putting any of them out before the entire vehicle is destroyed, regardless of type. "they lock occupants inside after a crash," - So I shouldn't be concerned about my Merc Vito deisel van automatically locking me in after I drive off. That is different is it? "they don’t work well in sub-zero temperatures" - They work well enough and it's becoming less and less and less of an issue as development continues. "have absolutely appalling residual values" - Everything has appaulling residual. The joke where I live is and has always been, the minute a new vehicle is driven out of the showroom take $10k off it's value on the spot. That is often about right it would seem. This stretches back before EVs were a contemporary thing and it is still the case. You don't have to like EVs, but stop fooling yourself via your fear of change. You are looking rather silly by your own hand. EVs are coming whether you like it or not, so get over it.

@@BrentonSmythesfieldsaye HAHA!!! Good one. You make a lot of personal assumptions about someone you don’t know. EV’s are not the future. And that is literally it. ICE’s are here to stay and they guarantee absolute freedom. I’m not against EV’s, they’re just trying to fix a problem that doesn’t exist and virtue signallers seem to love that. How strange.

EV's didn't take over anything! The McMurtry Spéirling car can do 1 hot lap and then has to spend an hour on the charger because the battery is 75% dead, it's a joke! Ev's will never dominate the car market because the very idea that mining for the battery components and leaving a gaping hole in the ground is somehow better is ridiculous, that and the power to charge 1 EV on a high speed charger is 350 Kw per hour, that's equal to the power consumption of 280 homes. To separate the components like lithium from the earth after they're mined requires a chemical process that kills the earth, it can never be reclaimed. Then there's the Co2 from the mining machines, transporting it by truck for it to be refined, the majority is done in China which probably requires a trip across the ocean. The giant cargo ships burn the lowest grade diesel there is and puts out the Co2 equivalent of 100,000 cars running 24/7 for a year for only one trip across. Then it has to be shipped after refinement to the assembly plant, more Co2. Then there's the drain on the power rids that are already maxed out, which by the way, get their power from the burning of fossil fuels...going green is a lie! A cash grab! Germany is the world leader on renewable energy and they failed at it and had to return to fossil fuels.

What is the range of the Lotus at racing speed ? EVs will only beat ICE cars in acceleration off the line, ICE racer fuel stops 20 seconds not 20 minutes then the EV drops way behind. And Goodwood on a computer has no consequences if you crash by the way.

So who was 'furious'? I mean EVs did well on the hillclimb. As a short blast up a medium hill that needs punch of the line and out of the bends it suits the strengths of EVs. It's great to watch. But the hillclimb is not all of Goodwood. If you put these cars on the circuit they would not shine. I don't think there is a circuit race for contemporary vehicles so we wont see a comparison. I wish this kind of hype would go away. EVs are great and have their place but they wont replace ICE vehicles for a very long time if not ever. The world will have to change too much to suit them rather than them changing to suit to current world. If you live in a densely populated area or country with good infrastructure and people have the money, they are great. If you live somewhere like Canada, Australia or Namibia with big areas of not much at all, or Indonesia or Uganda where they main mode of transport is small motorcycles then its not going to happen any time soon and neither does it have to. ICE vehicles seem to contribute less than 10% of the CO2 output from humanity, so if you did turn the world upside down to get rid of them what will we do about the other 90%. Having said that, when I get older and dont 'go bush' any more I'll probably get a small EV as they are now getting affordable and I think they are a good idea.

You are kidding right? Isn't that where the lotus BEV crashed at the start? - "most famous performance car weekend"; Id have to say "no" ..Goodwood which is a 1.2 mile hill climb is 200,000 attendees; Indy 500 345,000, Le Mans 300,000, Daytona 500 240,000. - It is a very very short race; which means EVs can compete; they can't even begin to challange in any race where they have to charge. The faster an EV drives the faster it needs to be charged; If a Model S needs to charge after3 hours at 60mph; and 1 hour at 120mph and 30 minutes at 150; you get the idea - range for EVs drops very quickly at speed; EVs are no good in anything but very short races.
