I think back in the 8 bit days it'd be kinda difficult to have 6 different characters with different play styles though. Even in SMB2 the 4 main characters play similarly just with slightly different physics.

8yr old me partially liked goonies 2. Just as a game, unrelated to movie, it actually had potential with all the tools and hidden secrets. BUT, the lack of clues literally made it a guessing game where you ended up hitting every inch of every wall in every room with the hammer or other tools, and i still missed things. And yea, those rooms were a nightmare to navigate, but i guess it clicked at some point because i remember navigating them just fine later on. I'll never forget when my friend came over just to show me how to beat the game, and i was blown away 😂

Tuscaloosa, Alabama 1989. This game was in The Barrel of Fun arcade in University Mall across from Ruby Tuesday’s. Some evil genius put Goonies 2 on a timer so going inside of the rooms was basically a death sentence for quarters.

It’s a childhood favorite of mine as well. Once I realized that exiting a warp zone by pressing up took you to the back of the map and down was the front, the game made way more sense.

The whole yo-yo as a weapon myth is shockingly popular. I've read crazy rumors that the yo-yo was "invented" by Filipino warriors for hunting , even though we have evidence as old as 440 b.c showing it clearly as a toy (there's a Greek vase showing a boy playing with a yo-yo). However, that bizarre yo-yo weapon myth refuses to die, even though its clearly absurd. How would that even work!? lol

My dad had an old Nintendo VS. cabinet in the garage when I was a kid, so I actually played Goonies 1 a TON when I was a kid! It's still in the family, I think it's in storage though.

I remember being a kid and thinking that Goonies II was the sequel to the movie, not realizing that there was another Goonies game. Also, I believe the mermaid was a cut subplot from the film.

Sorry to be that guy but they are two different words. 遅れ (okure) and 遅い (osoi). They use same Kanji but they are not the same word Chances are still high it is a miss translation,

I still get the music from Goonies II stuck in my head once in awhile. Loved the digitization of the Cyndi Lauper, but I remember the cave music too. Only got to play Goonies 1 once at a Marine World arcade, have always wanted to go back and finish it.

The Commodore 64 version is awesome. Pretty accurate to the movie locations and even has a level based on the cut out octopus scene. Even has all of the Characters from the movie.
