The greatest sin is to regard Jesus as God: the great blasphemy.

When he said he basically puts on two hats, one for the historical content and the other for writing sermons in his church, it reminded me of Dr. Jerald Dirks (Rahimahullah). He once said that after studying via Harvard divinity school and after being a deacon in the church, he felt that he could no longer be a part of the church because he would have to do what Dale said. He couldn’t know the truth of historical inaccuracies and problems, and also teach and be part of the church knowing that a lot of what was taught was falsehood. So Dr. Jerald ended up accepting Islam after studying. May Allah guide Dale to Islam.

The book of Acts is one of my favorite parts of the NT, especially the verses on how the first generation of Christians lived: "All who believed were together and had all things in common; they would sell their possessions and goods and distribute the proceeds to all, as any had need." -Acts 2:44-45 "Now the whole group of those who believed were of one heart and soul, and no one claimed private ownership of any possessions, but everything they owned was held in common... There was not a needy person among them, for as many as owned lands or houses sold them and brought the proceeds of what was sold. They laid it at the apostles' feet, and it was distributed to each as any had need." -Acts 4:32-35 Unfortunately, because of the 20th century and Cold War politics and propaganda, etc. I don't think most Christians (primarily in the West) will understand these verses as they should be understood. I think the 'liberation theology' Catholics of Latin America actually have it right, Jesus and the apostles clearly preached a preference or prioritization of helping the poor and needy. This should be the basis of a Christian political movement if there needs to be one, since the teachings contained in the NT are not at all apolitical.

When I was an undergrad, I'd see older people taking audits and tell myself I'd do the same thing when my time came. Now I'm older and there's zero point zero percent chance I'd currently drive to a local university, pay for parking, walk wherever, and then sit in a torturous righty desk, or maybe the sole broken lefty desk that's shoved into the back corner of every classroom, to listen to some adjunct race through their lecture. Except for Dale. That'd be a destination audit for me if there is such a thing. Great interviews and please make this a weekly thing. The thing is this. How could the author of Luke, which has a positive view of Paul and his work (he thinks its amazing actually as we read in Acts ( both the Gospel of Luke and Acts have the same author)), have a completely different view of atonement then Pauline churches? Why give Paul such good press if he disagrees with him ? Luke is writing 20 some years after Paul's death, but he must be a part of his community, or a community associated with his churches, not to mention that Luke must have read Paul's letters and perhaps even knows some people that might have known Paul. There are two possibilities. Luke doesn't know anything about Paul or his theology ( this is almost a unique position of professor Martin) or he is tailoring his records to specific audience (gentiles) and the difference between him and Pauline interpretations of the Cross is nothing but a stretch.

The good thing about social media and youtube in general is letting Christians and Muslims to debate about Jesus without any physical violence. Muslims (in my opinion) are achieving geart job in rebutting the notion of divinity of Jesus and proving his glorious prophethood in a very civilized and peaceful way , even with heated language in many times. This is of course much much better for both sides than fighting in battle fields and holy wars.

The Indian Church position (1268 AD) with respect to the word Paraklete Sheikh Rahmatullah al-Hindi said: He received a small letter in Urdu from priests , and this letter was printed in Calcutta. And it was about the word Paraclete. A brief summary of the content is as follows: If we say that the origin of this Greek word is Paraclete, then it means the comforter, the helper, and the agent. And if we say that the original word is Periclyte, the meaning changes and becomes close to the meaning of Muhammad and Ahmad. The letter went on: Whoever from among the scholars of Islam inferred from this to be good news understood that the original word Periclyte and its meaning is close to the meaning of Muhammad and Ahmad, so he claimed that Jesus brought the good news of Muhammad or Ahmad, but the correct one is Paraclete i.e. the comforter, the advocate, the supporter.

John Dominic Crossan and Marcus Borg address the ransom passage of Mark in their book “The Last Week”. They explain how it is not a reference to substitution atonement. Their point is ransom is a payment made to set a captive free. First century Jews were captives of the Roman domination system. Jesus was preaching a coming Kingdom of God - which would be an earthly kingdom directly ruled by God, not an unworldly Heaven. In this kingdom everyone would live in peace and be free from the domination and injustice of human empire. Note the passage at issue does not really mention Jesus’ death. People give ( i.e., live their lives) for many causes such as health care, education, social justice, etc. Per Crossan and Borg, Jesus’ ransom payment was consciously giving (living) his life as a servant of the Kingdom of God that would set people free.

First of all i'm a muslim, means i seek not my will but the will of the father(abba in hebrew), god(el Elah, ELOHIM in genesis = allah), as well as all Christians whom seeking the will of the father : because i seek not my own will, but the will of the father, which hath sent me. The bible john 5:30, hence, Islam is really diffrent from the book of Qu'ran, Adam PBUH was a Muslim. In second time, the word son was misused, with all respect to the apostles and Christians. The word ‘son’ cannot be accepted literally because in the Bible, God apparently addresses many of his chosen servants as ‘son’ and ‘sons.’ The Hebrews believed God is One, and had neither wife nor children in any literal sense. Therefore, it is obvious the expression ‘son of God’ merely meant ‘Servant of God’; one who, because of faithful service, was close and dear to God as a son is to his father. Christians who came from a Greek or Roman background, later misused this term. In their heritage, ‘son of God’ signified an incarnation of a god or someone born of a physical union between male and female gods. This can be seen in Acts 14: 11-13, where we read that when Paul and Barnabas preached in a city of Turkey, pagans claimed they were gods incarnate. They called Barnabas the Roman god Zeus, and Paul the Roman god Hermes. Furthermore, the New Testament Greek word translated as ‘son’ are ‘pias’ and ‘paida’ which mean ‘servant,’ or ‘son in the sense of servant.’ These are translated to ‘son’ in reference to Jesus and ‘servant’ in reference to all others in some translations of the Bible. So, consistent with other verses, Jesus was merely saying that he is God’s servant.

Paul I personally find it difficult to understand the language of the Bible. These parable like statements wear me out, but you mashallah keep a clear mind with those intriguing questions to Dale regarding his book. I am sure you prepared these questions to get some answers that need to made plain to lay people if you like. I suppose your background has given you an edge to keep up with the discussion. However without a similar background one kind of gets lost or rather struggles to keep up. My point is, can you make a summary of the blog to briefly explain what we have achieved by the discussion? I know finding these weaknesses only increases us in yaqeen( certainity) in our religion. This is the best way I can try to explain my request, I hope you get my point.

The problem with Christianity: 0-The oldest complete New Testament was from the 4th century (centuries after Jesus) and is dated from 325 to 360 AD. The Quran today dates back to the original from Muhammad’s time until today. 1-Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, or any other prophet never preached a trinity 2-The Bible serves as the primary source of revelation and was compiled and written by men who were not around Jesus nearly a century after Jesus. This is not the criteria of a primary source. 3-The 13 New Testament books that comprise of Paul’s letters (1 Thessalonians or Galatians and Romans) were written nearly half a century after Jesus’s ascension. Paul was not an apostle and was not with Jesus when he was alive. Some reports state: placing Paul’s letters after the gospels (Sinaiticus), or after Acts and the Catholic epistles (Vaticanus). 3-There is no harmonizing method for the Bible so there is no way to tell what was abrogated and what was inserted 4-The earliest followers of Moses did not preach a trinity 5-The earliest followers of Jesus did not preach a trinity 6-The Unitarian belief was no good, so it developed into the bitarian belief 7-The bitarian belief was no good so it developed into the Trinitarian belief 8-History shows the Trinitarian belief was proposed by a man named Justin Matyr who was not around Jesus’s time and came 100 years afterwards. Others believe that Tertullian was the first to the defend the doctrine of the trinity in the 3rd century. Nicaea dealt mostly with the issue of the deity of Christ. More than a century earlier the term "Trinity" (Τριάς in Greek; trinitas in Latin) was used in the writings of Origen (185-254) and Tertulian (160-220), and a concept of a "divine three", in some small sense, was expressed in the second-century writings of Polycarp, Ignatius, and Justin Martyr. The council of Nicaea had questions regarding the Holy Spirit which was left almost very much unaddressed until after the relationship between the Father and the Son was settled around the year 360 (Some experts say the year was 362 but the point is it was nearly 400 years after Jesus by men who were not with Jesus). In other words, the doctrine in a more full-fledged form was not formulated until the Council of constantinople in 360 AD, and a final form formulated in 381 AD, primarily crafted by Gregory of Nyssa. This shows that the trinity was a man made concept opposite of what Jesus and the other prophets taught. 9-The Bible has NUMEROUS scientific errors such as the world being having 4 corners indicating a flat earth. 10-The Bible was modified by MAN and unknown authors no longer making it the word of God. This is well documented in history 11-The Bible has NUMEROUS flawed and contradictory verses such as God being tempted by Satan to kill innocents proving God is not all powerful and has a weakness: "The Lord said to Satan, 'Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one like him on the Earth, a blameless and upright man who fears God and turns away from evil. He still persists in his integrity, although you incited me against him, to destroy him for no reason.' " (Job 2:3 New Revised Standard Bible) 12-The Old Testament does not support a Trinitarian form and the earliest Jews did not support this nor did Moses. 13-The Bible had to sustain watered down translations for easier misinterpretation that relies heavily on inference of a trinity. Jesus saying he is the “way to god” or he is “the light” can be stated by any prophet of the Lord. This isn’t to mention it came from the last Gospel and none of the earlier ones. 14-Only the Reformist groups can defend Christianity which implies the original sects had no logical rationale to support Christianity as a legitimate faith and it also asserts that Christianity can be explained and justified via Reformists 15-There is no solid objective proof that can attest that Christianity is the truth (such as modern or historical prophecies to the level of Islam) 16-“God” required a pagan-like ritual worship of a bloody sacrifice to atone for sins and grant forgiveness 17-“God” further enacts pagan-like rituals though the Eucharist by the symbolic act of people eating his body and drinking his blood 18-The Pope, priests, etc. have the power to absolve sins when that is clearly only God’s right 19-“God” thought it was a good idea to impregnate himself in his own mother (propagating incest), only to give birth to himself, to raise himself to preach to himself, to perform miracles for himself, to get tortured for himself, to call out to himself on the cross, to die for himself, to resurrect himself, to go back to heaven himself, to be with himself. This is not logical. 20-The New Testament was written in Greek-Jesus spoke Aramaic 21-Mathew 1:16 Says Jesus was son of Joseph. Luke 3:23 says Jesus was son of Heli. Clear contradiction. 22-2 Samuel 24:9 says there were 800,000 men in Israel and 500,000 in Judah. 1 Chronicles 21:5 says 1 Million 100,000 in Israel and 470,000 in Judah. Clear contradiction. 23- 2 Samuel 6:23 says Michal (daughter of Saul) had no children. 2 Samuel 21:8 says Michal (daughter of Saul) had 5 sons. Clear contradiction. 24-Exodus 21:20-21 says to beat servants with rod. If they die, it’s punishable. If they are alive a day after, no punishment. Beating close to death is okay because they are “property”. 25-The Earth does not have 4 corners: Isiah 11:12, Ezekiel 7:2, Revelation 7:1 26-Christianity claims monotheism yet they claim that God has a son and mimics various pagan like influences 27-The gospels are accepted by Christians to be the most authoritative accounts on the life of Jesus. The first 3 (Mark, Matthew and Luke) do not talk about the divinity of Jesus anywhere. It’s the Gospel of John which came out about 100 years after Jesus where it starts making claims that Jesus claimed divinity. 28-The Christian understanding of Jesus changed over time as proven by history. The Unitarian belief developed into Trinitarian over time. Conclusion-both Jesus as God and the trinity were the conclusions formed not just by men and not Jesus, but by men who were not around Jesus to begin with. 29-The entire belief of divinity and trinity with Jesus relies heavily on the emphasis of inference from later scriptures interpreted by later Christians, in later times. 30-The Bible has NUMEROUS barbaric verses including “god” supporting mutilating innocent children against rocks and raping women: "See, the day of the Lord is coming - a cruel day, with wrath and fierce anger. . . . I will put an end to the arrogance of the haughty. . . . Their infants will be dashed to pieces before their eyes; their houses will be looted and their wives violated." (Isaiah 13:9-16 NIV) 31-There are more than 450 English translation versions of the Bible translated by different manuscripts and methodologies 32-There are literal thousands of manuscripts that disagree and contradict each other on many levels including verses and books they contain 33-There are different translations that state completely different things in certain places in which footnotes appear that are often times there to warn of an error in reliability of the numerous manuscripts

Maybe he purposely included the three contradictory stories of Paul to make people who study faithfully question the validity of Paul? Maybe he couldn’t say openly what he wanted to say.

Jesus peace be upon him was sent to Fulfil the Message of Moses from God and not to abolish it. Prophet Moses Jesus, and Muhammed were specifically chosen and all spread the Same Message from God amongst their people. Jesus did not die on the cross. But even if we take this for the reason of argument, different people in the Bible/Gospels where forgiven for their sins before the so called alleged crucifixion of Jesus. This proves that people can surely be forgiven without the blood offer on the cross by Jesus. So the professed crucifixion and death of Jesus on the cross is no must and condition in the teachings of the Bible/Gospels and by Jesus himself, that you can and will be forgiven by God without this fenomenon of the crucifixion. The Christian people seem to forget and overlook this fact of proof. But like i said, Jesus never died on the cross.

Thanks again for this Paul, although Prof. Martin is less certain about this Gospel than the others. It's still pretty good stuff though. I do take issue with the claim that Luke certainly did not write the Gospel of Luke. Prof. Martin is very close to Bart Ehrman, who is at one extreme of historical analysis of the Bible. While Matthew and Mark may be less certain when it comes to authorship, the mainstream academic opinion is that Luke was indeed written by Luke, and perhaps Luke was not privy to Paul's letters but rather to what Paul actually did. To quote zondervanacademic.com, "So, did Paul's companion Luke write the Gospel of Luke? The overwhelming majority of Bible scholars say “yes.” Between the undisputed claims of early Christians and the textual evidence pointing to someone like Luke, there’s little reason to believe this gospel was written by anyone else." It occurs to me that Biblical scholarship is split into a number of camps, and each camp tends to completely disregard the others. So while it may be accurate to claim that skeptical scholarship doubts the authorship of Luke (along with a lot of other things), when considering all Biblical scholarship this is very much not the case. In the case of Luke it is particularly hard for Bart Ehrman to properly analyse the spread of the Gospel in Acts when a central modus operandi - that of the manifestation of spiritual gifts and performing of miracles within the early church - is something he discounts even before picking up the text. I suppose what I'm saying is that this situation means that when you say in one of your videos that "biblical scholarship" supports this or that view, or discounts this or that opinion, what it actually means is that the particular portion of scholarship which you subscribe to does these things, and the rest don't. Perhaps a more honest phrase to use is "critical biblical scholarship" or "skeptical biblical scholarship" (or even "historical biblical analysis"), which more accurately describes the authorship of most of the academics who you quote and invite onto your channel. This also opens the question around how a pastor can, if you like, keep his theological ministry in the church separated intellectually from historical analysis and in particular skeptical historical analysis of the Bible. Bart Ehrman has made no secret of his criticism of and opposition to Christianity. While it is quite easy for a pastor to be friends with a vocal and even famous skeptic of Christianity, to go so far down the same road as him as to require a separation between academic, intellectual, and pastoral views on the Bible seems, to me, like an unwise road to travel if you have any intention of continuing in Christian ministry.

Is this really an individual that one can seriously listen to as being an authority on the Bible? Shocking as this sounds, it naturally leads one to think that Dale Martin's character is lacking in judgement, to be swearing like this in public and one wonders what he does when not 'in the public'? Critical-Historical New Testament studies is one of the most confused and confusing areas of study that I have come across. It is just not possible to re-construct the ancient past on the limited amount of data that we have with any degree of certainty. Unsurprisingly, the "historical Jesus" usually happens to resemble the scholar who is reconstructing him- or at least reflect his presuppositions. However, NT scholars are just not honest enough to admit that their reconstructions are just not very reliable. Moreover, NT scholars usually disagree with each other about _almost_ everything aside from a few points of consensus, such as that Mark is the earliest Gospel and that John is the latest, and that Jesus was crucified, etc.

I heard the normal procedure for crucifixion by the Romans was to keep the body hung up until it fell to bits. Was this not the case in Israel ? Doesn't the earliest Mark finish at the crucifixion ?Are later additions possibly inaccurately reported? Are there any non-canonical gospels with different endings?...I wouldn't have a problem with loads of people seeing Jesus after his death (or not), even my own mother turned up soon after she'd passed on saying how much easier it was for her to visit me now that she was dead...but a fully corporal dead person is very unusual!
