I like how You walked in the Hospital as sammy Loyalists and especially fearless killers but the moment you saw John Everybody froze. From that story, I know John must have had a presence which could make him command and discipline killers. Very Few men have that.

Thank you for giving all of us room to agree or disagree with your interpretation of the tapes. That shows strength and humility on your part. Very cool. Listening and looking at this tape from 10,000 feet, a few things stand out: 1. John was called out and embarrassed by the work that dried up for the Westies. I gather John was completely in the dark about that situation and felt humiliated. So he lashes out against Sammy. 2. John has been someplace besides his job if he's loosing control of the family. The smart thing to do is emulate what Sammy is doing to regain the family and admit his way isn't working. John was a lot of things but teachable apparently wasn't one of them. 3. Sammy is a bright guy. What does he think about this? Sammy was busy making money. Sammy has stated many times he didn't want to be in the boss's chair because of the heat it brings. John is falling apart from that heat yet courts it at the same time. He's psychologically stuck and can't get out of this downhill situation. So he lashes out at Sammy and tries to make sure Frankie is still his friend. Sounds like Gangster High School circa 7th grade to me. Give me more tapes and I'll have 30 more observations :) Thank you both for the information you share.

John was keeping an eye on you after that elevator incident. He may have been disappointed in you, but he must've had high regard for you to have you come in just about all week and to stay away from Sammy..... that's a clear cut message.

John wanted all the fame and publicity he wasn’t interested in the business until he began to understand he wasn’t being taken seriously because of how he was acting. He never questioned anyone who would tell him the truth. He had a bunch of yes men around him.

Another kick ass show boys! Professor Michael Dileonardo is the 1000% legit "John Gotti tapes Whisperer". Having listened to all of these tapes dozens of times and read + reread the transcripts probably hundreds of times, I never thought that 1 person could decipher so many of the obvious "inside baseball" cryptic statements made by John at the height of his power and prestige and which ultimately led to his tragic Caeseresque downfall and doom. Until now we've had only Sammy + certain vested interest law enforcement personnel as our guides to this murky world. UNTIL NOW! Keep coming with that 'high heat' RJ and Michael!! Much ❤ and RESPECT gents!!!

Michael, RJ, this stuff is absolutely fascinating. I've never been so engrossed watching anything LCN Related. Michael, your insight and interpretation of the tapes, and the workings of the Gambino family during these times is captivating. That period of the Gambino family has always intrigued me, I followed it as best I could as a 16/17 year old in the UK. There wasn't much as we had no Internet back then. A guy I worked for was on holiday in NY around the time and I had him bring me back the NY papers. I wish I had kept them. Just watched the end of Gravanos live. He goes on a bit of a rant about John, his gambling, him being the worst mob boss, and how John was planning on having him killed. You can see by what he's saying now that what's coming out through you guys is bothering him. You can sense he's rebutting something just by the way he goes off in his answers to questions. Another thing, check out the 'work' Sammys had done on himself. The pout and the cheekbones are hilarious. What is he, almost 80? Come on mate.

I lived on Bay 13th across from Fappiano. I remember M Scars wedding day very well. I also remember the 4th of July's there. You had to wear a crash helmet.

Such a good series…thank you guys. I love Sammy and Mikey. They obviously have different perspectives but I respect Mikey a lot and appreciate him going through these tapes, I think he is as honest as he can be (obviously everyone has bias). I do find it interesting that Frankie is kind of wishy washy, I think it lends a little credence to Sammy’s side. But at the same time, I realize Sammy constructs a lot of his story to make himself look better. I think that’s how he deals with the shame and disgrace he feels for flipping. I respect Mikey because he comes out and says that…Sammy deals with it by trying to paint a picture that makes him look better. It’s interesting because they both have the same existential (identity) crisis, but they cope with it differently. I respect them both a lot. Wouldn’t it be cool if Sammy would participate in this? I know it would never happen but it would be awesome. I think RJ is and would be a fantastic moderator as well. I’d absolutely love to see some kind of sit down with Mikey and Sammy, as close as RJ is to Mikey, I think he would be able to recognize his bias and try to address it to be as neutral as possible. I guess at the end of the day, it’s just fascinating to see how treacherous that life could get, not just for Gambinos but all the families. I am really starting to understand the appeal for the young guys to get involved, but you start to get down the line and moving up in the family and realize that your “brother” is stabbing you in the back, or most likely putting a bullet into the back of your skull. It must be a crazy internal conflict to have worked that hard to move up in the hierarchy, believing you are in a brotherhood, only to realize that LCN kinda doesn’t mean shit for most as they are pretty much looking out for their own interest. LCN is just merely the vehicle they use to get where they want to go, and use when it’s convenient. They all obviously put a lot of work in, but at some point it seems like they all kinda take a step back and say fuck this shit I’m out for me. On the flip side I guess it’s kind of like, why should I follow the rules if this guy isn’t? It’s kind of infectious, either you are all in or kinda all out to an extent. Thanks again guys

For so many years the narrative about the tapes came exclusively from the FBI and their informer and valuable asset Sammy. So they said all these years that John was greedy and disloyal and scheming and they covered up Gravano's greed and gave him cover for his decision to switch to 'Team America'. I never thought it was that simple just based on the fact that one guy broke and killed his friends and the other guy stayed strong and killed FOR his friends. Now I'm so glad that Michael is giving us the real context and what was actually happening. Anyone who believed Sammy's ridiculous claims that John told him he was taking the fall whilst Gotti said he's gonna just waltz out to freedom has gotta be embarrassed to see how they were duped and DiLeonardo is definitely the man to puncture that balloon! In the 30 plus years in the MC world as a 1%er I have seen guys try to move up fast wanting the power and it almost Always backfired on them. IMO it's all earned just like trust, if you are worth it your day will come. I been SGT of Arms for the past 11 years and I believe I earned it . With these younger guys what I see is that they don't believe in earning stuff and don't care about trust which blows my mind. Anyone that knows me knows when I give my word I follow though with what I said

I really hope this comment and question gets to Mikey. I happen to be a vice President and a large corporation and it’s amazing the similarities. Don’t you think there was a problem with Sammy being in the administration and acting like a captain at the same time. I think people in the administration should not be too active on the street. It’s too much of a threat to the boss.
