As an old sniper, making a shot at a fast moving target is impossible unless using advanced technology that rotates the firing position to keep the shooter aligned to a specific point and he can apply the exact hold off as winds change speed and directions every 300 yards, you have to run the applied hold off calculation on the fly then release the round and all this is happening as I get to my respiratory pause to ensure no muscles are being used that can betray my shot. Then there’s the rifle barrel type and twist rate then the cartridge, the propellant type and burn rate, the type of projectile and it’s weight and ogive profile then there’s the drop rate of the projectile throughout its flight to target, the farther the target, the more drop to adjust for. Sniping is not some heroic job as Hollywood likes to make it look, it’s all technical and lots of math and algebra. To see what I mean, read the book “understanding firearms ballistics”. Technical shooting requires someone who is detail oriented to the point of near perfection and he has to be able to trust his partner completely because he will be calling wind and calculating the hold off I need to apply and I must trust his calculations and likewise for him. And yes, women make for the best snipers/tech shooters due to their lower muscle mass. Never anticipate the shot and recoil of the rifle, just let it beat the hell out of your shoulder and last, we keep both eyes open when shooting, closing one eye requires muscle use and we have to focus on every muscle and ensure it’s completely relaxed because once the round goes off, every muscle in your body will relax for a split second and that’s where it affects the aim. In the Army we only send a couple MOS’s to sniper school; Infantry, Cavalry Scout, Special Forces operators and now and then some Military Police but that’s rare.

It must be hard to hire people to work for the government for jobs like this. If you are hired to kill an assassin doesn't it occur to you that you will be killed by the next assassin? The chance of retiring in comfort or even living a normal lifespan sees pretty slim. If you ask about the retirement package do they laugh and say "you wont be needing that"
