Some of these contractions are like creases that can't be ironed out. No matter what we do, we may take them to the grave and that needs to be okay. Nothing needs to change in order to Be.

Regardless, we all have a conditioning of the body, whether we know every detail of that experience, it's just a pointer that he's making in which he acknowledges the tensions in the body or the bodily conditioning we all experience to some degree or another, "It makes this understanding possible." If we didn't have some sort of bodily conditioning, we would remain as pure consciousness without experience (of a body & world), which is not our experience. Goodnight, everyone!

Thank you Rupert for explaining a phenomenon I have experienced for many years during zazen meditation. Many times I used to hear a loud bang like a door slamming shut and then in my meditative state I used to visualize a small bright light with my subconscious responding with, "I'm not ready yet!" ...Rupert you are right on the mark which many of my Zen teachers have missed!

Mr. Spira will tell you that "objects don't have existence; existence has objects", which is not actual. Existence doesn't have objects either; existence has the illusion of objects by way of mental processes. It's not the body that has to be liberated, there is no actual body. It's the Mind that has to be liberated from the delusion of body. When the Self is free of the delusion of object then the illusion of body object will be set in it's proper place within the Mind.

It is hard to talk about what has no words using words. Concepts have their limit regarding that which is without concepts. Rupert does describe and explain it very expertly. However, one thing he talks about is that we make a concession to language and words, etc. If you keep that in mind, then any gaps or problems in understanding can be compensated for.

I have an enormous amount of tension trapped in my body from extreme anxiety that began with a breakdown on psychedelics 16 years ago, followed by an anti-anxiety drug addiction. My body 'wants' to release the tension but my mind resists and blocks it. However, I have started getting IV ketamine treatments. The second time I received ketamine, which is a gentle psychedelic, I think it pushed the resistance aside with brute force. My body started shaking furiously, wobbling at the hips, my head flapping back and forth, and then full-body muscular contractions as the resistance battled fiercely with my faith in freedom from fear. This went on for 3 hours. In the next two days, I had two more massive releases like this, lasting 2-3 hours. I've never experienced anything like it. It is exhausting but I am glad ketamine can enable all the terror energy to come pouring out of my body at once. I'm going back again this week, two weeks later, and expect the same result. I have yet to experience any subjective shifts in my consciousness because of these releases, but we'll see. It is hard to imagine not having such a shift before long.

I think judith Blackstone is another great voice on this topic , resistances in the mind and beliefs held mirrored as holdings in the fascia and soft tissues , as mind let's go of rigid structures bodily tensions arise into awareness to be felt into and dissolved , its a process , many layers , subtler and subtler resistances on mind level and corresponding contractions in bodily tissue, elasticity of body can be regained, body can feel like home again as in childhood.

If anyone can answer this please. if your aware of being aware. How would you relax the awareness? He says to relax the awareness. Does it mean to be come comfortable being aware not let anything take you away from being aware or does he mean like try let go of awareness as if your trying to go to sleep.how would u surrender if your trying to stay aware? It's hard to explain but if a thoughts trying to take u away do you surrender to the awareness no matter what the thought is and just be aware of it and not follow it? That kinda requires some effort. So then how would u relax?

+Andrew Bush There is a theoretical approach and the details on various aspects of experience and the mind. However, as Rupert was saying, it is experiential. You have the phase of trying to intellectually comprehend details about the functions of the mind, but this all points towards your own, direct experience. From your questions, it seems that you know that thoughts "about" it can be distracting, so what is the feeling, intuition and exact knowing of it? If we talk about water all day, we may understand water well, but jumping into a lake for a swim or drinking a glass of water is a direct experience of it. To relax, in this sense, is to relax in the best way you understand the state of full relaxation of body and mind. The practice of that is a good focus. If you are trying to relax, you may notice the trying and that carries, at the least, a sense of activity or "tension" itself. Frequent and deep relaxation can become easier and more natural as you apply patience and continue. Suspending ideas or inquires when you relax into it is something to consider and if you are comfortable with it, simply surrender and let yourself relax. Repeat that until it feels comfortable and natural and it is best to do it when you feel like it rather than forcing it or being regimented, though some people prefer that. One aspect of this relaxation, in a technical sense is to remain aware. So, practicing focus and awareness is another matter and you can learn more about various methods through these videos and other means. If you fall asleep with deep relaxation, don't consider that a failure. Deep rest is significant and a way to trust your own immersion into it is to lay a good foundation for that trust. Insight into your ability to surrender fully to your true nature is worth developing in this matter.

I mean I just don't know where to go. I can view things from awareness and feel as though I'm staying there but then I feel as though I could be doing something wrong. like daydreaming without any kind of images. Just blank. But of course I hear stuff still and my attention goes there I guess I should put it back at awareness. Then my bigger question is tht if I put my attention toward awareness and a thought comes I put myself back at awareness but that makes the thought disappear or am I doing something wrong?
@ernestweber5207
@ernestweber5207 9 лет назад
You are doing something. Take it as it comes. If you can reread what you are saying and how you are thinking, that's a good key here. Non-duality is not complex, but the structures we cling to about things can be. We tend to indulge in or suppress thoughts. Look into that. Consider what you are experiencing as cycles or waves. This happens in Dzogchen, too. It is fine. No need for commentary or even to question it if you continue to abide in the process without distraction. Firs there are thoughts, then no thoughts. Who is putting who or what back into something or other? Notice it.

One thing that Rupert said which helped me was "instead of looking at objects with/from awareness, look at objects as awareness". In a nutshell it should feel easy and natural. Else we are trying too hard and will take us away from being as awareness. Also remember we have to keep doing this as often as we can since we can stay in this mode only for a few moments initially and the mind takes over. After sometime when we realize, we have to come back to awareness which again will stay for a few moments. Relentless practice will gradually increase the duration where we remain as awareness. Good luck and Godspeeed!!!
