While some people are naturally gifted, I would argue it is still very much a craft. Tapping into your own childhood is not enough, you have to make it believable for other people as well. Some method actors take this very far indeed.
smuggest nation awards: "The Swedish came in for the biggest battering. “I find them a bit, ‘Look at us, with our brilliant economy, we’re really efficient and good-looking’. They’re like Germans but without the baggage,”"
Average actor? Oscar winning for The Aviator and nominated for Elizabeth the Golden Age and Elizabeth. Also nominated in the same year as Elizabeth the the Golden Age for I'm Not Here. She may not be your cup of tea, but she's had a remarkable career and defining her career as average is woefully inaccurate.
I'm not that invested in who finds which celebrity attractive to be honest, but I think she's a good-looking woman. Why argue over if she's beautiful or not. It's simply not debatable because it's not a fact.
There is indeed nothing wrong with being average looking, some people might even find her ugly, who knows, but why would people have to stop saying she's beautiful? To many she is, I mean, not even everyone thinks Ryan Gosling is all that amazing. Opinions, opinions..
well of course ewan would be cool with it. he's been playing indie, art house films that have involved nudity and both gay and straight sex. He wouldn't care one bit.
Do you mean everywhere in general? Like introducing people with "the lovely" and "the dashing"? In general that's just flattery. Say there is a comedian with people who like and dislike his jokes, only people who like them will refer to him as "the funny" etc. So the people who say Cate is beautiful think she is, and if she's introduced as such it's either genuine or flattery. So her looks may/may not be average as you say, but that doesn't mean people can't say she's beautiful if they think so.
Well, you also said she's an average actor, that's not particularly intelligent, funny and never been in a good film. I think she most definitely has been in many good films. I mean the LOTR films were pretty great. I liked Babel too. I mean I suppose each to their own, but you did say quite a bit more than not finding her beautiful.
I'll admit I haven't seen many of her films (except LOTR, but that wasn't really much of an acting part now, was it) and don't know much about her, so I can't really defend her. The second part is definitely true, if one's identifier is beautiful and nothing else, you haven't amounted to much.
