A Stay At The Grand Hotel Des Iles Borromees, Stresa, Lake Maggiore, Italy.
We were lucky to stay at The Grand Hotel Des Iles Borromees during our visit to Lake Maggiore just over an hour north of Milan, Italy. The beautiful gardens and stylish hotel relive the classic European Belle Epoque era.
The hotel is on the lake front and only 5-minute from the lake boats and Stresa town centre.

Ernest Hemingway stayed in the hotel in 1918 and the town of Stresa is the setting for a portion of his famous novel ‘A Farewell to Arms’

Hi, it was very elegant. The prices vary depending on the view, day of week and type of room. The room in the video in May with balcony was a total of £640 for 3 nights (inc breakfast and taxes). I know it's not cheap but much more reasonable than you expect for a hotel like this.

It was a great location, it features in Hemingway's " A Farewell to Arms'. It wasn't as expensive as it initially looked either.

We've never been to Lake Maggiore or even Lake Como for that matter. Which would you say is your favorite? The hotel looks stylish and classy.

Both are beautiful but differnt, Stresa on Lake Maggiore is easier to get to than Bellagio but the villages and towns around Lake Como are really pretty

It was beautiful and was not that expensive - comparable with a standard room of a chain like the Marriott, Hilton etc

Christopher Rudder Well consider I stayed there a week in 1994 and back then a regular room cost 180 US dollars a night (in 1994 money). Today I think it's easily around 500 euros a night or more, dining and petite dejeuner prices are abnormal too, I remember a cappuccino being then 20.000 lire or roughly 12 dollars (a cappuccino then in a regular Italian bar cost 1800-2500 lire or anywhere around 1.5 to 2 dollars). The place is reachable directly via helicopter from Milano's 2 main airports as it has a licensed heliport and also features the famous Hemingway Suite (Room 106) that hosted the writer for long periods and is 260 square meters with 3 bathrooms and a 160 square meter private terrace.
