If you look at other book review channels, this one actually has quite a few in comparison. I have not seen many book reviewers with this many subs. The popular book reviewers usually have in the range of 25,000 subs. Hey if you are on youtube you probably like watching more than reading.

Since you did such awesome work on the grapes of wrath, I will tell you a story about my experience here. My mother was in college dating a man who excelled in English and literature. He cared about my mother, but after reading John Steinbeck decided to move to California to inspire him to create a literary novel. Since my father and he were in the same fraternity, we asked my father to look after my mother while he was away. Well long story short, my father looked after my mom so well, they conceived me, they got married and that's how that went down. Meanwhile the lofty novelist wannabe ended up in San Francisco area and became a hippy, before hippies really existed, at least he didn't become Jack Kerouac. As John Steinbeck brings out, life has many twists and turns, the best plans of mice and men are often led astray.

Well my my dad met my mom in a completely unorthodox way so my dad said he was hanging out when he was my age 21 and then my mom came outside and my dad asked for her number and after some unspoken actions they eventually conceived me and I was the year after in June

I love this dude!!! This is my first experience seeing “Thug Notes” & as a teacher, I appreciate the concise, humorous & accurate approach to classic novels, which can be overwhelming to the average reader, especially kids in middle & high school - which is usually when Steinbeck & his ilk are usually presented. I can’t wait to watch more. This is much more entertaining than “cliff notes”.

Something I realized from Sparky's nicknames is that Jim Casey, has the same initials as Jesus Christ. The bible references just go deeper and deeper.
@jackburton3540
@jackburton3540 4 года назад
Jim Casey is very much an intentional Christ figure. Just look at his last words "You don't know what yr doin' " and compare to those of Jesus "Forgive them Father, for they know not what they do". Of course this allusion is coy, because in this story there isn't any forgiveness to be had, as Tom enacts brutal vengeance on Casey's murderer.

This book is awesome. Whenever you feel depressed, just whip this book out. You'll be like 'hey! Compared to these poor people, my life rocks! I haven't been run off my home. My Grannie hasn't died and we didn't have to bury her at the side of the road. My family is still together. I wasn't burned out/forced out of my cardboard city. I wasn't treated liked like a slave. I wasn't starved. My man didn't run off. My baby didn't die. There is no flood threatening us and I certainly didn't have to breastfeed an starving elderly man while the world floods around us. MY LIFE ROCKS!!!' What doesn't happen to that poor family? This book is seriously everything a sad country song wishes to be when it grows up. I think you should be sharing your drink the rest of us who've read this book.

99 times out of 100 I have Sparky's back on his interpretation. He missed a big point with Grapes of Wrath: The character of Jim Casy was a Christ allegory. He got real close with describing how JC was out in the wilderness, but didn't follow thru. Jim Casy as a Christ figure was extremely interesting because he refused to play the role of "The Holy Man" and humanized the relationship between people and their "God" "there ain't no sin and there ain't no virtue. There's just stuff people do. It's all part of the same thing." - Jim Casy OK, so 999 points out of 1,000

The summary was a little weak, but taking that extra 30 seconds really helps solidify your talking points - like during the analysis. I suggest you extend all your vids just a little - into the 5 minute range. If you wanna be legit (and my guess is you do), then act legit. PEACE!

I was especially interested in sin in the book. The woman at the government camp who claims that the dancing at night is sinful is one of the few people who restrains and separates herself from all the others, kind of leaving her out of the 'family' described in the video. Rose of Sharon also finds herself wrapped up in feeling intense guilt for her sins, as well as Uncle John. Characters that aren't worried about sin are the ones responsible for, and take responsibility for, those that are. Casy is the best example, he's past worrying about his misdoings and is focused on the bigger picture. At the end Rose of Sharon gives up her feelings of guilt and worry and contributes to the family by giving herself to someone who needs it, it's a big moment of change for her.
