In 1905 my great-grandfather's ship-repair workshop was lost to The Great Fire of Connahs Quay. It so incensed the local council that they decided, that henceforth, the growing town must have its own fire-station!
This clip was compiled form various audio/film recordings made by me in 2009 during one of my several visits to the Connahs Quay (Flintshire) home of fellow local-history enthusiast, Vic Williams.
The audio was recorded, as an original, "wild-track". I used a pocket-size, mp3 "memo" note-taker. This device was always left running during interview sessions as a "back-up" and as an aide-memoire for possible, subsequent transcriptions .
The film-footage seen here, is a "cheat"! It was captured on an earlier, more formal session with Vic, using a consumer "DV" tape camcorder. In an attempt to enhance the viewer "experience" of future generations, for this production, the "memo" track was dubbed, in post.
I hope this gives a semblance of Vic's inimitable story-telling style and that you enjoy listening to this fascinating piece of Deeside history!
