Tonight, 21st December 2020 sees the Great or Grand Conjunction of the two largest planets, Jupiter and Saturn, visible in the evening skies for a short time after sunset. Conjunctions of these two planets only happen every 20 years, but very few of them are as close as 2020s, when the two planets will appear only about 1/5th of the width of the full Moon apart. The next opportunity to see them this close is not until the year 2080.

Look South-west, low down, as soon as it's dark enough, but you need a clear horizon!

@@RichardB1983 I know, I have viewed Jupiter, Saturn and more recently Mars throughout the entire year. It just happens that here right now, the sky isn't clear and hasn't been for the last couple of days, which is mildly annoying!

Yes, very annoying, but can't do anything about it. I was lucky to get a 45-minute window last night to try and get some footage for use in this video.

Closest point is within about an hour or two of now. They are now too low to be seen in the UK, but the USA has a good chance in a few hours.
