I was just a little kid. My memory was of men knocking on our door looking for food for work. Mom would say we had no work but to wait a min. She would cook an egg, a pc of toast on a paper plate with napkin and a cup of coffee, hand it out to them. Our church collected $ for those out of work.

7 Million men, women and children died in America during the depression, my uncle was one of them. He died all alone along a dirt road somewhere in Oklahoma. TODAY, NEVER put your money in a bank. Banks have you sign a deposit card today when you put money in their bank and it now says any money you put in the bank belongs to the bank.As a retired banker, I know for a fact banks took all savings and checking accounts then the Fed's came in and broke open all of the safe deposit boxes and took everything that was inside them. My Father and Mother lost everything and I was raised on goat milk. My father was a doctor and he took care of people for food for us children.

@The Trashman how many times in 150 years have "banks" failed? Prepping is different than fear mongering. Pulling yourself out of "the system" will only make it fail even quicker. Like those who take out giant loans than leave the country only to have the debt burden the rest of us. Don't give up.. the american system is pretty efficient. He raised a family. 3 boys. He worked hard. Forman. 3rd shift. His whole life. His 3 boys all fought in the war. All came home. Looking back. I think things were better than today. I have a good life today. I think alot has to do with my grandfather. They always had a garden in the back. Today both parents need to work just to get by. Every sunday we went to church. Today its traffic jams and cell phones. I remember lots of good times. Every week we went and saw my grandparents. I remember. Its sad.

Great Depression was brought on by banks and those that created banks ... to take farmland and control farmland, to usher people into cities, getting as far away from nature and self-sufficiency as possible, top become dependent on the federal government, etc. And where did people put their savings? Into banks which crashed. Poof! Self-sufficiency is the key now and banding together locally in small groups. Cities will become nightmares for everyone living there. Grow your own food starting now everyone. Organic seeds.

How I wish my grandparents and patents were still around. I have memories of stories but so many questions now. I am 78 and seeing we are heading for a full blown depression .

Why not stay with parents for 122 years and pay rent to parents in a multi-generational home to save more than $1 million of mortgage interests and investment opportunity costs per generation so your parents and eventually yourself when you are old will have funds to pay the doctors for medical bills and surgeries to extend your life by a year to see your grandchildren? Why not pay your children or grandchildren a monthly salary, so they let you stay with them and nurse you until you pass away?

Except History teaches us. Roosevelt's policies prolonged the Depression. Source: Forgotten Man.

Videos like this act as if everyone suffered through the Great Depression, and it's nonsense. Seventy-five percent of people never lost their jobs, and a good many of them came out of the depression far better off than when it started because and steady job meant you could live very well. Even a little bit of money had a huge amount of buying power. And while many rich people lost everything, many more, the smart ones, made millions off the depression, and multimillions when it ended.

I've heard lots of black people say that they didn't realize the depression was going on because they we're already poor. The less you have they less you can lose.
