"The Great Dictator" Original Premiere: March 7, 1941 In Charlie Chaplin's Oscar-nominated satire of Nazi Germany, dictator Adenoid Hynkel has a double: a poor Jewish barber who one day is mistaken for Hynkel.

Charlie Chaplin simply deserves a standing ovation for being one of the greatest man who ever walked the streets of life, such an inspirational speech.
This is why Hollywood cast him out he was not just taking the piss out of Hitler but all despots But they are still here notice how he quote the bible You dont hear that now Funny we can go shop but not church Think for self dont fall for the tv
He was a wise person still live his movies in this day n age his words still makes sense we are HUMAN BEINGS n FREEDOM n democracy is important no one wants to be controlled or enslaved not even animals
It's not that simple. It was a risk to make this movie then, but rather than Charlie Chaplin staking his career on it, American audiences at the time felt the speech was going along with unpopular ideas of the time and hated it so much that he was banned from America until the 70's.
@@JoshuaRWorkman What were those unpopular ideas? Democracy was a thing back then, did they hate how he asked for equality of people even if they are Jew, or black?
a true genius , this mr Chaplin : what an idea to held this speech neither as "jewish barber", nor as Hinkel, but as Charles Chaplin himself ... !!! for me, one of the greatest moment in movie history .... !!!
A cracking speech the late mrC one of greatest thespians of all time, the FBI should've been a shed true then true now Trump every tinpot listen NOW !!!!!
WOW! I knew Charlie Chaplin was one of the GREATs, of the Silent film Era, but I didn't know that he was such a powerful, and talented speaker. We all can learned a lot from this comedy man. God bless his soul. R.I.P.
I learned that the night of this movies premiere he donated the proceeds to families of American Soldiers! So awesome, I watch so many of his movies over and over he was a brilliant and caring human being. RIP Charlie 🖤
Dra6onfly My head is up my arse for not swallowing your antisemitism? You’re just an angry loser whose “research” is tailored to your rubbish personality.

This video should be shown on every network today, because it is so relevant to the environment we are dealing with in the U.S. in 2020. It is as prophetic as anything that has been said or published in the last century.
It will make no difference. People know no history, and don't bother to educate themselves. They throw "isms" about without understanding, and hate each other with glee. This speech was applicable globally. It still is. In a thousand years, if our species survives, it will be the same.
This is the first time I heard him. And i shall always remember what he said and meant. He was one of his kind we miss in today's scenario. God bless you Charlie.

It is well enough that people of the nation do not understand our banking and monetary system, for if they did, I believe there would be a revolution before tomorrow morning. - Henry Ford. Somehow we continue to get dumber with more access to information.

I’ve heard that these words are not in the scenery nor the script, he asked to write his own words to say in this scene, you can see that those are not word he just prepared to say it in a scene, you can feel the words and he actually means it and he say it and mean it from his heart, that’s why I really feel like crying listening to him. It’s too deep.
The sad thing is if you played this video to college kids and didnt tell them it was 40 or 50 years old they wouldn't even know. That was awesome without that music in the first video i seen of this speech.
Maybe so, but when he started acting in movies, that's just not how it went. In fact, when movies started having spoken dialogue, people hated it because, no lie, they couldn't hold a conversation in the theater among other reasons. Well, almost a hundred years after the first "talkies" as they were called and look where movies are now.
I meant more along the lines of what movies have become when compared to what they used to be. You certainly have a point, however, few these days can objectively be called good, and those that are get passed over for lowest common denominator schlock.
So long ago this was said and still rings true today everyone in the world should listen to this but just once and the world would change share this speech with your friends. and ask them to do the same and in time we whole world will have heard it.

The way he says “hope” at the beginning. At first you think the Barber is hanging on the word and letting the nervousness get to him. But then you realize, it’s in that moment that he knows what to talk about to end the conflict and save everyone. It is hope.
Charlie equal Legend , his speech is way ahead of his time , many times I refeed to in a social media but ether censored or ignored , but he new we are heading to a disaster , we are always on that path , imperialism , greed, monopoly, hegemony , oligarchy , named ...
@Elmer Fudd ask yourself who you are and if you will find the answer who you are as a creature on this world than you will hear the voice inside of you of you're Father
Hats off to Mr Chaplin.. He truly made us speechless. Now I understand why someone in comment said "when the silent man speaks he make us speechless". Alas this speech is relevant throughout the centuries but we truly forget to comprehend the true meaning and shocking truth behind it.
