After an incident closed the La Salle Causeway to all larger marine traffic on March 30th - three tour boats were stuck in Kingston Marina, unable to start the tourist season. Thoughts turned to ways to escape. One vessel, the Island Star, it was reasoned, could, with the removal of superstructure, be ballasted down to a height that would clear the east bridge. Research proved this to be the case and work began. On May 23rd, shortly after dawn, she moved under tow across the river and approached the bridge. Everything went well and within an hour she was safely berthed at Crawford Wharf, south of the Causeway, with full access to Lake Ontario and the St Lawrence River. This short video is dedicated to the folk at Kingston's 1000 Islands Cruises who made this happen and to their supporting crews from Kingsdive.
