There has been a pause whilst the Causeway was experiencing work and I was away - but there will be a significant catch-up report soon. Thanks for watching.
There's an e-mail address in the info section for the channel - have you seen the video here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_rG13Oy1AOM.html
Amherst is well worth visiting - nature reserves, owl woods, drystone wall examples and other attractions. It's currently C$10 for a car to travel and foot passengers travel free.
The upstairs seating area looks large enough to accommodate a container diesel generator. 🤫 So when the batteries fail and are too expensive to replace.
Love it Mike I'm from the area and not been to the island and also lived just down from the new battery plant thanks for the update 649 kick in tonight lol
Hey, I was on that trip! Awesome video. I love the nod to the Frontenac II at the end. She has been a faithful, dependable ferry for us for a long time. <3
Quick question: Do people have to exit their vehicles, or can they remain in their vehicles? I hope not, but you didn't cover that topic. She looks like a nice ferry.
Great question, Marilyn - no, absolutely not - a crew member collects fees at your window and a decision to 'take the air' and visit restrooms or enjoy a better view is entirely yours..
Ron - I don't think that an external visual inspection of the obvious damage was the only concern they had about the safety and integrity of the bridge after the 'incident'. Alignment checks revealed other issues. I think that's why the decision to demolisha and remove it was made.
Yes, indeed - I could see them being quite helpful in eastbound trips, though the description of their operation suggests they are pretty capable in most orientations
I can certainly see why she'd be a favourite - she has an elegant charm and she's a strong performer too. Thanks for taking a moment to share your comment
Yes, those masts ! I had a form visual and, as you know ‘objects in your controller screen are not as close as they appear’. But they do give you a start !
That’s almost an understatement. You can tell a strong team when you see it. Lots of good observers with sound input and amazing control. Glad it comes through in the video
Quite the history on the namesake Captain Matthew Flinders, his remains were lost for a time and will be reburied on 13 July 2024 in Donington, Lincolnshire, England.
Thanks for watching a great team at work. Really good mariners make it look easy - but it certainly ain’t. Lots of other less impressive performances out there
Is this the END of the DAVIES DRYDOCK? When they slide the bridge span back in place will the inner harbor be closed for years as they try to figure out what to do with the channel? Are they moving the Captain Mathews Flanders to another Dry dock as in a short time there will be no way to leave the inner harbor, leave now or be trapped for years?
Brian - I hope that’s not the case. I think it’s likely that the ship is moving for the right reason - that someone is able to put her back into service. I believe that the dry dock will be accessible for some time to come.
She’s a beauty though isn’t she ? At some angles she looked longer than the vessel she was supporting. Very nimble for her age. We may see more of her, I suspect.
I understand your point - and it’s hard to satisfy everyone. Many people comment that they enjoy visuals uninterrupted by commentary. I’m sorry that it’s not ideal for you. It’s good to know that you liked the content otherwise. Thanks for watching.
I grew up here, steeped myself in this city's history and I am always blown away by something like this video of local history that is right out there under our keels Kudos for showing us this, but where is the commentary and story of the wreck? Just asking....
I will see if I can't find some information about the wreck - I know that I had it at one point. She was a barge under two lost when she started taking on water, I believe
I'm really pleased that the company picked up on this - the arrangement of the truck, clearly well thought out and engineered, made for a speedy load and I wanted to make that clear.
I look forward to seeing what a new bridge solution will look like. Although there's a lot of nostalgia for me in that old bridge deck! As a former RMC student, the hum that bridge made was the 'sound of freedom' after weeks confined to the Point Frederick peninsula! Thank you for documenting the bridge removal!
Thanks for sharing those memories - we are all wondering when and what will replace the lift bridge. Hopefully, it will be both reliable and in keeping with the setting.
Considering all that bridge deck material is still there, I'm really starting to think they're going to save the bridge deck, even if it's only as a temporary bridge. There's no reason why they wouldn't be starting to scrap it at this point if there wasn't some intention going forward.
I wish I could confirm this theory. A decision on the way ahead is clearly taking some time. It's going to be a challenge to satisfy everyone, but saying so would be helpful in reducing speculation.
