VOLUME: Yo this is really helpful, and it's easy to follow and digest the story, however, I would like to advise you to turn the volume up a few notches. Thanks, Keep it up 👍

Poor Gatsby! do you think that Daisy represents the American dream , and since gatsby did not get her , we can conclude from this that the American dream is unattainable.. THANK you soo much for taking us on your ship and hover all over the book . I enjoyed staying in your channel .. waiting for the next one

I think Daisy motivated Gatsby to rise economically, but Gatsby was impatient and decided to take a shortcut (bootlegging). The American Dream is the idea you can achieve social mobility through hard work and talent. I read the novel more as an indictment of the privileged than a refutation of the American Dream. Nick could have stayed in NYC and pursued a career in finance, but he was disgusted with the morality of the rich characters. The characters who die--George, Myrtle, Gatsby--all have humble backgrounds while Tom and Daisy escape all consequences. The novel isn't so much saying it's impossible to achieve social mobility but rather that some people are already privileged and their privileged backgrounds blind them to the struggles of society at large. Thank you for watching, and I'm glad you found the videos helpful!

Wow I just finished the book for the first time and really enjoyed it. I'm an ESL student, so it was good to watch an analysis that can help me understand some parts I was confused about or explain American history references I wouldn't understand by myself. Too bad I only found the channel when I only had a couple chapters left. I can tell you're really passionate about what you do and that makes your videos better! That said, the last chapter was my favorite and I loved Fitzgerald's writing here. The bits of nostalgia described by Nick really stood out for me. Every character has a bit of grey morality in them and not even Nick escaped that (something I hadn't thought about myself until the video). Thanks for the analysis!

I love your observation about the "grey morality" in the last chapter. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

A bit of a personal question, but did the ending of this book inspire you to make this RU-vid channel? Btw I love your videos and I hope to see you make more in the future.

I made the video series because I've read the book several times and love Fitzgerald's writing. I like how I have different reactions each time I read the book. For example, sometimes I like Nick, sometimes he annoys me. I wanted to help others gain an appreciation for Fitzgerald's writing.
