THE GREAT ITALIAN FORT OF OGA ON TOP OF THE WORLD

As everybody else the Italians began building great Forts before WW1, but being inflicted with having to build in one of the most beautiful places on earth. In the Alps where everything is unforgiving, pointy and cold, still the Italian flair for great constructions from the time of the Roman builders does not let down.
I visit lots of battlefields, forts and bunkers but never in a place like this. Had it not been for the lack of internet reception I might have remained.
For the series great Forts I could not move forward with a visit to this amazing place, but still in the back of your mind remember how lethal this place was, and how far it could reach out and touch the enemy and it did.
Enjoy and lots more forts and investigations coming, dont forget to like and follow, it really helps and makes it possibly for me to keep doing these, and do follow me on Patreon for notes and commercial free episodes and movies.

After having watch dozens of Time Team videos with Tony Robinson, I'd have to say, while it appears to be a moat, it's technically considered a defensive ditch. Love your videos Tino:)

Another fantastic video! For myself, I am amazed at the style and beauty of the outside stone masonry. My ancestors on my mothers side were stone cutters and masons. That stone at that fort is stunning. Thank you Tino, it was a pleasure to watch.

The wire insulation was not wool, back in the day asbestos fibers was used. Wiring method in US terms is called knob and peg. In USA it went to the way side in the 1950's. Always appreciate your videos. -Brad

The gun shown at 4:37 and 57:38 seems to be a 75/18 gun as used in Semovente M40/M41/M42. Was this also used as fortress guns or is that a "museum mounting"?
@patchmack4469
@patchmack4469 2 года назад
another epic video Tino - a nice change to see something Italian and still in such great condition - pity the guns were scrapped - have that man shot for failing to understand military history in and of any period of time to have any future foresight to be able to capitalise on later - all these things make for interesting visits and bring in tourism to other countries - building that fort in such a location must of been in very hard conditions even between winters

I am sort of hoping they would find replica guns, bc these were very special and very few were made.

I found a video on the Gardner gun, very interesting, and made mostly of brass. That's probably why they are gone. RU-vid, ' From The Vault: The Dual Barrel Gardner Gun ' I didn't want to post a direct link, as they get kicked as spam.

Beatifully restored and kept fortification. However, the Italian design and overall appearance looks like a tourist resort (Club Med type) and far away from the German or French ones. Lucky Italians troops who were stationed there. EXELLENT job Tino. THANKS ¡¡¡¡¡

They literally built the road in order to drive materials up there and built their way up to the fort
@lisab3396

Yea that was clear at the beginning......then near the end of the show, there was the men climbing and cables alongside. Once they established the initial climb, they set up a crude/simple cable lift system to bring bulk and heavy materials up. Absolutely fantastic fort! 👍
