The 2023 World Baseball Classic is upon us, so I decided to take a look back at what many consider to be the greatest game in the young history of the tournament. From Brandon Crawford's in-game redeemption arc, to Adam Jones' miracle catch in front of his hometown. What makes this the greatest game in WBC history? And will games of this magnitude eventually throw the World Baseball Classic into the ring of elite international tournaments such as the Olympics and World Cup? Take a journey back with me to the far off time of 2017 as we take a deep dive into this marvelous matchup between the United States of America and the Dominican Republic as we answer these questions.

i was there for this game sitting in the right field corner down the line. First time in the stadium and had a great time. A game and a MOMENT i’ll never forget. Adam Jones gave me a core memory i’ll carry with me forever

11:05 a little correction, as the NHL have not sent over players for the Winter Olympics for the last 2 cycles and have hosted a "world cup of hockey" event before (and will likely be used in the next few years)

Bruh, the DR's population is 11.5 million, and the US's population is over 350 million. That may be the dumbest comparison in the history of comparisons. Having said that, the DR is definitely loaded with BL talent.

@No More Fielders No, you proved mine! 🤭 Our population is 30x bigger than theirs, yes, but it's also far more diverse with many competing cultures. Whereas in the DR, they have a much smaller, homogeneous population. One with a singular culture. In sports, they have really one sport that drives them. Clearly, that's not the case in the much larger U.S. where we have 4 major sports that drive us. The numbers you found are exactly what one would expect to find. My man, you clearly didn't think it all the way through. You simply saw the raw number and let that be the story you would take away from it.

But when you hear phrases like "dumbest comparison" it sort of comes off as a below the belt punch to a project that I spent several hours crafting.
