Team North America was a force to be reckoned with at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey and in this video we talk more about one of the most intriguing hockey teams out there. #hockey #nhl #sports
I liked the team, but I’ve got to admit, it’s unfair to basically have a 2nd team for both the USA and Canada. It gives 2 chances for those national teams to be represented while other countries only have 1. It was fun to watch but it was unfair having the 2 best international hockey teams have an additional team that could also win the WCoH.
I think it came across as gimmicky, but then proved that some gimmicks are actually awesome. This was the NHL trying to make things more fun, and they ultimately succeeded.
The North American team is for sure stacked and was great but in my opinion the greatest team ever assembled was the 2002 Canadian Olympic team…. Mario Lemieux, Yzerman, Shannahan, Belfour, Rob Blake, Kariya, Pronger, Sakic, Curtis Joseph, Ryan Smith, Iggy ,Thereon Fluery, Rob Blake, Lindros, Owen Nolan, Macinnis and more … coached by Pat Quinn and was the first gold medal at the Olympic for Canada in 50 years…. This team was absolutely stacked…
@@Marixa1979 Oh ok, makes sense now thanks for the clarification. I just can’t see any of those guys being on the 3rd, or 4th line though. They’re all studs. Maybe unless they all get somewhat equal minutes. I’d rather see Crosby in that mix over Eichel any day of the week though.
@@NotaGabeItch When you're looking at best of the best tournaments, you tend to get 3rd and 4th lines that are easily first lines for most teams. That's what makes those tourney's so exciting as all the teams are so deep.
Matthews and McDavid became really good friends playing on this team together. They've trained together numerous times since. Even their parents got close and have continued to vacation together from time to time too.
I absolutely loved this team. Canadian, but I was cheering for the "young guns" as I called them. Absolutely lethal team, one of the most interesting hockey teams I've ever witnessed and would love to see them bring it back somehow again.
Sorry that title belongs to the 2002 Detroit Red Wings...who now have 10 players from that roster in the HHOF, as well as Scotty Bowman as a HC, Mike Illitch as an Owner and Ken Holland as a Builder (GM). 13 HHOF Members from 1 team....a team that won the Cup, broke the NHL and were the cause of the Salary Cap being introduced a couple years later.
I don't think it's fair to compare a NHL team to a team with all the best players of the NHL put together. I think the Detroit team would get smoked. Just like they would get smoked if they had to play against team Canada.
Montreal teams from the 1970s were the best . The red army game was one of the best ever. And those teams have the most players in the hockey hall of fame . Then its a toss up between Detroit early 2000s , Edmonton mid to late 1980s and Islanders early 80s
Dude the 1976 Montreal Canadiens dynasty had 11 hall of famers, 16 all stars, 17 trophies and a 0.786% winning percentage (no OT or shootouts) plus still hold the record 2.76 goal differential. That almost dynasty team tied the USSR a year earlier. In their prime from 1976 to 1980 that team was probably better than the summit teams of 1976. Other contenders are the 1980s Islanders and Oilers. Still the oilers had 5 hall of famers for example. Young people don't realize just how crazy good the Canadiens were in the 50s, 60s, 70s and even until 1994.
Greatest hockey team ever assembled? I nearly lost my lunch. Imagine a team with Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, Eric Lindros, Messier, Coffey, Shanahan, Steve Larmer, Scott Stevens, Hawerchuk Belfour all on one team. Can't even count how many Stanley Cups between them all. It's not even close.
The greatest line ever assembled was Mario Lemieux and Wayne Gretzky in the 1987 Canada Cup. It didn't matter who the third guy was... When on the ice together it was like they were on the power play...
Here's my dream team, obviously all players being taken from their ''prime'' years in the NHL... Here's a fun challenge to everyone else --> Make a team (without using any of these same players) to challenge my team (I'm pretty sure there's at least 6 or 7 teams teams that could arguably beat my team given how many players I couldn't pick)... F: Gretzky - McDavid - Ovechkin D: Lidstrom - Pronger G: Hasek Pros: SIZE, passing, scoring, variety of scoring zones & methods from each forward... Cons: Hasek was known for having a rare stinker every now and then, Gretzky was never ''super agile'', Pronger is a beast but could go ''off'' and get quite a few penalties if the other team got on his nerves...
The point of having it as country vs country is to bring out a unique kind of competitive spirit - this tourny was just void of any kind of spirit, passion, pride, patriotism. Yanno the things that actually transcend the sport itself into something the viewer(and the players) want to be invested in.
We haven't talked about the mexicans or Caribbean countries on the team. This was a North American team after all. Very elitist to not talk about their contributions😂😂
The 1980 Miracle team called: they'd like to remind you that they pulled off the impossible, in the worst possible time of politics, on the lowest budget.
The WCOH was great as everyone got to root for one team by combing the US and Canada and it was such a special thing. Sucks the NHL will only do it once.
Great video. But the best team ever assembled was 1987 team Canada. Think about how many are in the Hall of Fame. And it was the same for team Russia. Most exciting hockey I've ever watched.
Not even close by a mile compared to the talent of Team USA & Team Canada from the 97 World cup.....they would ANNIHILATE this U.S Canada combo in the video.
They were fun to watch but it’s not fair basically having a 2nd team for Canada and USA. The two arguably best hockey national teams in the world now had a 2nd chance to win the WCoH. That’s why I get why it was discontinued as a team. If there was a team North America made of U23 Canada & USA, I would also expect teams like a Team Nordic made up of U23 Finland and Sweden. A Team North America can work in some scenarios but it has to be equal for all countries, you can’t just favor 2 countries and make a secondary team for them.
trust you me, as a Canadian i would despise if they had won the world cup. FUCK THAT. Canada and America each would NOT want to combine with any age group.... ever. many voiced they wished they could have been eligible to play for their actual nation.
@@user-st8sp3fw8h True, even tho they are made up of players from all over the world, it’s been over 2 decades since a Canadian team has won the Cup. Gotta have something to call their own…
A stacked team ...but best ever assembled not too sure about thst....usually first place is part of that.....2010 canadas olympic team would have kicked their asses...just saying
The greatest hockey team ever assembled is strictly Canadian players, they make up the smartest and toughest players in the league. USA hockey creates a bunch of whiners
Wow, that makes our Cup victory even more special. The GREATEST TEAM EVER ASSEMBLED and the 2023-2024 Florida Panthers beat them in a 7 game series, holding them to 5 goals in their 4 wins. Absolutely incredible! I think we should get a whole band on the cup dedicated just to us and this most impressive series victory OF ALL TIME. Go Cats!
Not even close. They have a couple great players, but there are teams that dominated start to finish, offense and defense. Oilers were good in these respects, but not absolutely dominant.
23/24 isn't even the greatest Oilers team assembled. This statement is like thinking Ringo Starr is the best drummer in the world, dude's not even the best drummer in the Beatles.
