Mr Freeze, the very definition of the villain with the tragic backstory. He did all that for his wife and in the end she ran off with the lawyer. But of course she had no body by that time so he knew she wasn't going to accept that. Greek tragedy all around.
She married her doctor, not a lawyer. But only after waiting for Victor for a long time. He never came back to her though, because, as you said, he had no body. Though we don't know whether she would have accepted him as he was or not.
The resolution in the animated series(and beyond) is bittersweet. He saved his wife that he loved but understood due to his crimes and condition could never be with her after. In the comics 3 times now they make it so she goes full insane ice villain to his dismay. As he never intended to be a villain it was always just a means to an end. That was actually tragic.
mr freeze as a whole is a perfect sympathetic villain where everything in his life just blows back in his face no matter how hard he tries and yet it's batman and later his son Batman beyond that understand him best and try to help seriously go see all the episodes and movies he is in up to Batman beyond and his line "believe me, you are the only one who cares" is especially heart breaking
Facts bc sometimes the villain isn’t really a villain they are just a person that goes about things the wrong way and may not wanna hurt nobody but will do what they have to do
@@destinedforgreatness3030 I'd call it more vigilante in his case where he tried to do good but was used and then thrown away to make a quick buck. reminds me of the Batman riddler from the animated show where Julie his assistant betrayed him and cost his research everything and Batman says "when is the villain not a villain?" and everyone agrees with the answer "when he is the victim"
Incredibly surprised to find out that Mr freeze only appeared five times throughout the animated series. As iconic as he is I just figured he had a much larger footprint
This and Mask of the Phantasm were my introductions to Batman. I had SubZero on VHS while my grandparents had Phantasm. I used to wear those tapes out back in the early 2000s when I was a kid. Also and you can laugh if you want, but I had a huge crush on Barbara when I was a kid XD.
I've always thought it was quite cheeky of Warner Bros that the villain in the second Mr Freeze story bore more than a passing resemblance to Walt Disney; even the idea of him freezing himself is based off the myth that Disney's head was cryogenically frozen! Great video Vee, 'The Iceman Cometh'.
Gonna say this before I watch the video. It's funny you made this review less than a week after I saw it for myself. Mr. Freeze is actually my favorite Batman villain, and when I finally got to see the movie, I was thoroughly enjoyed by it and even shed a tear at the end lol. Really the only thing that bothered me is the overuse of CGI, especially when all that CGI could've just been drawn.
yes, i love this movie too it's my childhood rewatch it so many times on VHS also thank you vee for this video it's about time i hear someone talk about how they loved the film!!!!
I just remembering them releasing this for marketing synergy with the live-action Batman and Robin movie… and it ended up beating the pants off of it, quality-wise.
I would have been completely satisfied if this was Mr Freeze's real final appearance in the series as his main motivation for all his actions had been fulfilled, so to see him go from an anti-villain to a more generic bad guy in his episode of The New Adventures felt wrong to me. By the way, it wasn't a blood transfusion Nora needed: that was just a cover. It was an organ transplant that could have potentially killed Barbara.
I watched this video because I wanted to watch the movie again, but I didn't remember if it's Was this good as I remember It is, and I now know why I only remember mister freeze in the movie Like you said It's his movie Thank you
I think the best version of Batman and robin is combining Joel Schumacher’s ark for Bruce and controlling death/Alfred having the same disease is Nora, with heart of ice, with subzero. I think exploring the aspect of that man that tries to reject death and control it, in the same exact way that Mr. freeze is trying to not except death as a reality and keeping his wife alive when it’s her time to go is very powerful
Honestly, the movie's biggest flaw is its title. I remember balking at it for years just because the title made it sound so lame. I finally sat down and watched it a few years ago and felt bad that I hadn't done so earlier.
I always thought Mister Freeze overall as a character was handled better in the Arkham games than in the Animated Series and how his story concludes is better in my opinion in Arkham Knight.
It's actually not noticeable. I've watched the BATAS multiple times and never knew Batgirl had three different voice actresses until you said it in this video.
I don't know how you can love this movie and also love the new Batman adventures completely ruining its ending and turning Freeze into a "cartoon villain"
One thing about this movie that confused me was the use of the Batman 89 theme in the title sequence. Hell, when Batman appeared on Static Shock, they used a remix of the 89 theme for his scenes. I don’t get it; was there some kind of copyright dispute over the animated series theme song?
The movie is really good I have a dvd of it in my Batman collection but unlike mask of the phantasm this wasn’t set up to fail cause they didn’t change at the last minute how they were going to distribute the movie going from a straight to video release to a theatrical release with no time to market the movie the dcau was a great universe even though I prefer the animation style of the first 3 seasons of the animated series when it was on fox kids
I have returned to provide another shitty fancast. For his performance in V for Vendetta, as a man motivated by revenge, with an emotional core, and being able to emote amazingly through a difficult costume. I would like to nominate the amazing Hugo Weaving. He might not work in the Pattinson timeline (since Reeves wanys Freeze), but he'd be great regardless and we could just say he's aged by the freezing thing.
The Iceman cometh. I always thought Bruce would have been more of a Mr. Freeze type villain instead of a Joker type villain if he decided to be a bad guy instead of a hero.
Might be wild speculation, but a lot of Japanese media uses the word "And" instead of "Vs" in their "Character meets another Character" stories. So, since it's not uncommon for the US to loan a bit of their animation work to Japan (or South Korea), maybe there was some cross influence.
Of the two late '90s Batman movies featuring Mr. Freeze and Batgirl, only one is worth watching. I'll let you decide which one (psst...it's this one). Also, "The Iceman Cometh" - title of Mr. Freeze's sex tape.
I actually hated this movie as a kid. It just seemed like a BTAS episode that dragged on far too long. Plus, it didn’t live up to the standard set by Mask Of The Phantasm.
… that makes no sense but thanks for posting your comment multiple times on multiple videos. I really commend you being able to voice your opinion even when it’s one that has no merit or basis in reality. Good on you.
