Jan ist not the GOAT. Jan is one of the best Ironman athletes of all the time and triathlete with best marketing. We should be proud of Jan because he helped to develop our sport to next level. But Jan is nowhere near Javier Gomez and Alistair Brownlee just because he won olympic golds and Kona 3 times. For an average age group athlete Jan can be GOAT, but stats of Gomez and Brownlee are unmatched. Alistair won 2 gold medals, but more impressive are 22 WTS wins. Sometimes Ali as an teenager was beating Jan over 2 minutes at the olympic distance. Gomez has 40 WTS podiums and 5 ITU world titles, 2 70.3 WC titles and he was ranked top3 I the world from 2006 till 2017. At the age of 36 Gomez Gomez was beating Luis, Blumi, Iden, Wilde and Yee at the olympic distance. Jan switched to long distance in age of 32 in 2013 because he was not competitive in the ITU for TOP5. Gomez was ranked as nr3 in the world in age of 36. I am watching triathlon for over 25 years. Brownlee and Gomez are triathlon GOATS. ITU is so bad in marketing. They had Jordan and Le Bron competing for 8 years against each other week in-week out and promote it so purely. Jan is legend, he is a beast and in long distance he is better than both Ali and Javi, but considering whole careers long course and short course this 2 guys are way above him
Alistair Brownlee is the greatest triathlete of all time. Javier Gomez is 2nd best ever. Jan, Mark and Dave are legends, but Ali and Javi at WTS from 2009 till 2017 were unbelievable. It was golden era of triathlon that never got enough credit because ITU marketing is tragedy. Ironman does way better promotion for their athletes
how does his career compare with that of allen and scott? the 2 were at a time when triathlon wasnt an olympic sport. Jan didnt have a lot of wins in olympic distance.
