Throughout NASCAR history there have been plenty of crazy moments that have been immortalized into the history books. But seldom do many moments get as thrilling or as crazy as the one we saw in 2012 at Watkins Glen International. Today we look back on this insane event and how everything built up to make one of the best finishes in racing. This is the greatest road course race in NASCAR history revisited.

It was amazing. I was at the grand stand at turn one looking directly at the front stretch. Even though I couldn’t see the full track I was able to see Busch crash at the esses and there was a massive monitor that captured the entire last lap for everyone and everybody was on their feet for it audibly reacting to every moment of the ambrose keselowski battle. After the final lap eveyone gave a standing ovation to both Ambrose and Keselowski. I went to watkins glen every year from 2011-14 but this one of course stood out.

What makes Nascar road racing special in my opinion is the cars are heavy, stiff, high horsepower, low downforce, and can bump and shove. And that's why I wonder if the nextgen car will make it a bit less interesting, will the more GT inspired design make them too good at tracks like this.

This is a top 5 most influential finish in that it kicked off the road course craze that were deep in right now. The Glen was consistently dramatic, then the Roval worked with some good 2nd and 3rd tier finishes at places like Road America, now here we are. But 2012 Glen was when we all started paying attention to the twisty tracks
