The Bruins one was completely WRONG! They got Phil Esposito, Ken Hodge, and Fred Stanfield from the Blackhawks for Pit Martin and two nobodies. It was the most lobsided trade in NHL history. Esposito ALONE would have been a steal for the Bruins, but throw in two all-stars as well and, well, ...

What do you mean, nobody knew about Selanne? He won the Calder trophy in 1992, smashing the rookie scoring record by 23 points, and had scored 147 goals in his first 230 games. Everyone knew he was a star, and the Jets only traded him because they couldn't afford him, Tkachuk, and Zhamnov.

These guys are clowns. When I heard him say "Stephane", my eyebrow went up. It didn't sound right that Iginla ever won a Hart, which he of course didn't. And the Brind'Amour for Primeau deal was not a 1 for 1 swap...Philly sent Rod, goaltender Jean-Marc Pelletier, and a 2nd round pick to Carolina for Primeau and a 5th. And that was just the first 5 deals....

Not a trade per se, but I’d argue that Devils acquiring Scott Stevens made the single biggest impact on franchise history. And it’s a fascinating story of how they got him, completely screwing over St Louis. Well worth the hefty 5.5 M AAV, which was a crazy amount of money in 1991.

the trickle down effect of losing stevens was insane; sign shanahan, lose stevens in arbitration; trade shanahan for pronger, then trade proger for brewer to edmonton; we flip brewer to tampa for a 3rd round pick, and that pick became....JORDAN BINNINGTON.

1. Dude... you really need to learn how to pronounce the names of these players - you mispronounced about 30% of them in this video. 2. You're wrong about Toronto and Boston. Toronto getting Gilmour in a 10 player trade was their best. and Boston getting Phil Esposito and Ken Hodge from Chicago 3. Also, there's more to the story in how Montreal was able to get Guy Lafleur. Marcel Dionne was also a top prospect in Lafleur's draft year. It looked like the LA Kings were going to finish in last place, thwarting Pollock's plans to draft Lafleur, so Sam Pollock sent six time cup winner but disgruntled skater Ralph Backstrom to the Kings for Gordon Labossiere and Raymond Fortin. Backstrom had left the Habs prior to that season as he no longer wanted to play in Montreal and voiced a desire to play for a west-coast team. That trade vaulted the Kings over the Seals in the standings, giving the Habs Guy Lafleur while the Kings got Marcel Dionne.

The Gretzky trade was a win-win for both Edmonton and Los Angeles for another reason: Edmonton proved in 1990 they could win a Stanley Cup without Gretzky. It was also a win-win for the league itself, because without that trade, there is no NHL hockey in Anaheim, San Jose, Miami, Tampa, Raleigh, Dallas, Nashville or Las Vegas.

There’s more to the Nieuwendyk and Iggy trade. The Flames acquired the draft they used for Nieuwendyk when they traded Kent Nilsson. So they traded Nilsson, a key player past his prime, got Nieuwendyk, a key piece in their 89 Cup win. Then trading him for Iginla. Just looking at the trade with Dallas doesn’t tell the whole story, especially as Nilsson was traded to the Minnesota North Stars (who became the Dallas Stars) Honorable mention would go to the trade with the Colorado Rockies for Lanny McDonald. That trade gave the team an identity and a new character, that paid off in 89 as well.

in a complete shock to the entire city of Philadelphia and especially after their deep run in 2010. the flyers sent jeff carter to the blue jackets for jake voracheck and a first rounder where the flyers selected sean couturier. carter immediately demaned a trade out of Columbus and didnt want to even be on the ice for them. and the flyers got 2 cornerstone pieces in their core for years and coots becoming their eventual captain. the flyers also traded mike richards to the king for the rights to brayden schenn and wayne simmonds. just days apart. carter and richards were apparent party animals and were constantly late to practice, tried to sleep with other players wives, and had substance abuse issues. so something had to be done. richards did win the cup with the kings but succumbed to his demons and was never the same player. carter had a lengthy career and retired this season.

@jbellflower83
@jbellflower83 26 дней назад
Wrong on the Caps one. The trade that brought Rod Langway to Washington is still the most important trade in team history. Back then, the Caps were bad and DC was in danger of losing the team. The Langway trade stabilized the franchise and they became competitive and it kept them in DC. No other trade comes close because there would be no Caps in DC today without that trade. The Oshie trade was another good one but the Langway trade is easily the pick here. Ask any Cap fan and they will tell you this.

There's a caveat to the Hasek trade to Buffalo. That year there was an expansion draft and Buffalo had a spot open to protect a goalie. So they and Chicago did Winnipeg a favor by trading Center Christian Ruuttu to Winnipeg for Goalie Beauregard. After the expansion draft, Beauregard was dealt to Chicago for Hasek and then Chicago traded Beauregard back to Winnipeg for Ruuttu.

A funny detail about the Canadiens trade : in January 1971, the Seals were last in the standings, but only five points behind the second to last Kings. To ensure the Seals would finish last, the Canadiens gave away Ralph Backstrom to the Kings in return for Gord Labossiere, Ray Fortin and future considerations. In the Kings' final 33 games of the season, Backstrom scored 27 points, including 14 goals. The Kings finished the season with 63 points, 18 ahead of the Seals.

Whom-zlee and Ram-ijj, not Wham-slee and Rah-modge. And that trade actually was key to the 89 Cup win. Ramage was a key piece on defence, especially after Gary Suter was injured early in the playoffs. And Wamsley gave them a solid backup in goal. With the firepower the Flames had, Hull was not going to get as much playing time as he did in St. Louis, and they could easily have lost him for nothing later on in free agency. So while there is no denying his talent and career, he was spare parts on the Flames at that time. In a sense the Flames trade Brett Hull for the Stanley Cup. Hardly lopsided, especially considering the Blues never won the Cup with Hull. Hull later won the Cup with Dallas and Detroit

The Panthers gave up 5 assets for Tkachuk. They gave up 2, of WAY less value then almost anything they gave up for Tkachuk, for Roburto Luongo(top 2 player in franchise history), and Olli Jokinen(3rd highest scorer in franchise history). Nope. The still most important trade in Caps history was the trade that brought Langway to DC because, at that time, DC was in danger of losing the Caps. The Langway trade changed the course of the franchise and stabilized it and they became a competitive team. Yes, it didn't result in a championship but there would be no Washington Capitals today without that trade. So yeah, I hold that one a little higher. I love Oshie and I'm grateful we got him and he's been a great player for us. But the Langway trade is still the most important in team history.
