The original "S.O.S" was part of a rock opera called "Starmania" produced back in 1976, which was written and composed by Michel Berg and Luc Plamondon, from France and Quebec respectively. The song became a big hit in French music circles, but remained quite obscure in the US/Anglo music industry until it was recently revived by Dimash. It was his performance on the Chinese TV talent competition "I am a Singer" in 2017 that both Dimash and the song went viral. Dimash is from Kazakhstan, but he was invited to participate in the "Singer", and almost immediately he won millions of new fans in China and internationally. The song was written and intended to be performed by a single vocalist (not a duet), but of course Dimash's rendition - with his incredible 7-octave+ range - brought it to new heights. Thanks for a good reaction to Dimash. I enjoyed watching you try to process how he can be so good. It’s how I first reacted to Dimash. Several artists have sung this song in the past. The song is from a stage show. The other singers sang it sweetly, but Dimash brings his own style to it. Power, range, emotion and control are things he adds so well to the song.

I first heard him on the show "World's Best" where the only two people out of 53 judges who did not give him a "Yes" was because one said he "was too perfect" and the other said "just because you have it you don't need to flaunt it." Unfortunately, you can only hear him for the first time once so I check in every week to see if there are any new reactions to Dimash for the first time and I can vicariously enjoy their first times too. I am so obsessed with first time reactions because I recently discovered this mans myself. OH MY GOD his voice, He is an opera singer yes but he does literally everything. I just found a pop song where he raps and also incorporates operatic themes. He began his classical/operatic vocal and instrument training at age 5 and continued fulltime until age 25 . He will be 29 the May 24th and has only gotten better and better. He is currently living in Las Angeles working on a degree in Film Directing. This came on the hills of him having completed his Doctoral Studies and Dissertation in music. He is also athletic, caring, giving, Very close to his grandparents, parents, siblings, and family friends. He is from Kazakhstan and is the son of singers.

Dimash is an everything singer. He can sing any genre. He can sing in many languages while being fluent in his native Kazakh and Russian with English quickly becoming his third. He can compose, act, play multiple instruments, rap and even dance for us sometimes. This was in 2018. He has only gotten better and better. Try Stranger by Dimash.

SOS is from the 1970s Franco-Canadian rock opera Starmania and has become his signature song that he has improved over the years in his interpretation. But incredibly, it is not the craziest display of his range in terms of range, styles, volume, and timbre. Dimash is one of the great contemporary singers. His parents were professional singers and he trained hard from a young age. This is what real excellence and skill looks/sounds like. His counter-part, alien, mind-bending female vocalist is Diana Ankudinova. Dimash recommended her to his fans. It is a song from the French-Canadian rock opera Starmania from the 70's. There have apparently been 2 previous singers who did a good job on this song. They don't come along very often. Dimash HAS conspired to surprise you. He started at birth by picking 2 professional singer parents and then getting professional voice training at age 5. Then he kept training through his teens (sneaky) and kept his boyhood high range. He also got 3 or 4 university degrees in singing and music. All hidden away in Kazakhstan so we wouldn't notice. Then winning singing competitions in Kazakhstan, Russia and the Ukraine to stay under our radar. His big breakout performances (13) in the Chinese pro competition "I Am Singer" in 2017 was about as big as he could go without arousing our suspicions, but it did tip his hand a little and some people started to notice, especially Igor Krutoy, a famous Russian/Ukrainian musician/composer/producer, who then started arranging classic songs and writing new songs for Dimash. Then he almost blew it by singing for the Olympics, but luckily he chose the European Games so some of us might not notice. His first push in the U.S. was on the ethicless World's Best show (please boycott), which he then quit rather than getting too famous in the U.S. , succumbing to bad U.S. entertainment ethics and competing against children, which is apparently how the show's producers got famous. But it eventually leaked out and people in "western" countries started to notice. So he faced facts and started to improve his English accent, did some English songs and even started doing some U.S. style music in a Michael Jackson groove.
