A new virtuoso arrangement by our soprano saxophonist Dan Graser of two traditional Irish reels: The Green Groves of Erin and the Flowers of Red Hill. Inspired by the brilliant versions of this from the Bothy Band, Yo-Yo Ma, Edgar Meyer, and Mark O'Connor and the generations of performers who keep this music alive.
Donald Sinta Quartet:
Dan Graser, soprano saxophone
Zach Stern, alto saxophone
Joe Girard, tenor saxophone
Danny Hawthorne-Foss, baritone saxophone
Recorded at Solid Sound Ann Arbor: www.solidsound....

Go listen to The Bothy Band and learn it the way all of us who play this music learn it, by listening to it. Not exactly the way I like to hear this played, but, it is good and like rloomis3, I appreciate that these guys want to play it. This is a classic Bothy Band set, for those not familiar with trad Irish music, The Bothy Band was one of the best bands ever.

How do you get your double tonguing so fast and controlled?
@graserclassical
@graserclassical 6 лет назад
Well first of all we all studied with a master of the technique, Donald Sinta. However I will also say we all work on several coordination exercises both for double and triple tongue very slowly and gradually build these up over time. The initial coordination is the most important part, if done well then the speed will follow naturally. Also be willing to change your double-tongue syllables for the register and the saxophone on which you're attempting them. Hope this helps! Dan Graser (soprano saxophonist of the group)

It's really incredible the rate at which you all do it, extremely impressed. Good luck, and I hope to see more stuff from you guys in the future.

Hello. We are a French Quartet and we would like to play your version. Would it be possible to get it (share or buy)? Thx a lot.

As a tenor sax player my self, what mouthpiece does the tenor player use, I read you all are selmer Paris artists. I’d love to know what instruments and mouthpiece you all use, granted the talent is you guys and your incredible sound. Is love to know what you all use for setups?
@graserclassical
@graserclassical 6 лет назад
Happy to provide that information, this is the soprano player from the group btw. Both myself and the tenor player (Joe) perform on Selmer Series III saxophones and the other two members of the group on alto and bari use Series II saxophones. In terms of reeds we all use Vandoren Blue Box of varying strengths. In terms of mouthpieces both myself and Zach our alto player use Selmer S90's, Joe on tenor uses a Vandoren Optimum mouthpiece (I believe TL4 but might be TL3), and Danny on baritone uses a Selmer S80 C*. Hope this helps!
