Sand isnt great in opal jewellery for most people, but I think it can tell a beautiful story as to how the opal got there in the first place, Nice work Don :)

yeah, people think perfection is necessary and for high end jewelry, I agree, but we all have imperfections. Hiding them is usually not a great idea.

I understand that. This was mostly an exploration of the material. also, best to stop early, I can always try to remove the sand, later.

A beautiful stone ! Well done TOG. Wondering if you considered cutting the stone to make 2 or 3 smaller stones in the attempt to get around that sand ? Hard to say I think.
@ThatOpalGuy
@ThatOpalGuy Месяц назад
This was more an exploration of the material. I wanted to leave it as intact as possible to see how the color held/changed during the process. There is always the future...

OMG DON! I received no notifications at all. I looked under the bell icon and it was turned off! I didn't turn it off, though. I'm so sorry my friend, as I have missed a bunch! Going through everything right now to get caught up! By the way, you might want to post/say that the bell icon has been complained about on other's channels, too. I'm going through all those I watch. The "green mantis" opal is absolutely gorgeous! I love the free form styles, as they are unique and never to be copied. To me, my value is based on that. It is a great carat weight and colorful as always. I was calling it "Island on a colorful sea." And, I also saw "L" and "O" as you turned it in the light. This brings me to a question... Has any opal been discovered that actually 'spells' out a word? Wouldn't that be an incredibly valuable piece!?!? I appreciate your hard work in bringing out the opal's incredible colors. I disagree with one thing though. I think that leaving the sand on it added to its value and beauty. My guess is it's worth $250. If I owned it, I would have a special cab made to hold it for a necklace. Regardless, I do agree that I could just stare at any of these opals forever! Blessings from Alabama ❤️
