Welcome to the Grid-a weekly show exploring Chicago's neighborhoods with host Ji Suk Yi.
Pilsen is a vibrant and artistic community home to great food and much more. Formerly known as Nuevo Leon, Cantón Regio is a hotspot for all things Mexican food. Guacamole, carne asada, and quest are a few of the must haves.

My mom was born and lived at 21st and Paulina in the 1940’s-60’s, I visited my grandmother there in the 80’s as a child, I remember amazing, gracious people, the corner store with the best ice cream, and the EL. Interesting to see it today.

AAAAAH!!!! It’s so weird because I always pass by these places everyday. And then to see people going through it is also more crazy. I also like how they chose to stay away from the gang violence. And if u ever go to Atotonilcos, u always gotta get tacos de el pastor and a licuado de platano every time.

What about all the restaurants that have been there for decades?? La Casa Del Pueblo Taqueria, Los Milagros, Coculas, Los Comales? All those restaurants with the exception of Altontonilcos seem the pavement for gentrification.

@@acebandagedaclown4215 Pilsen is still 70% Mexican buts it's declining, 10 years ago it was over 80% Mexican. You can definitely see the culture is disappearing.

@@hueso5071it's not disappearing, a lot of it is just getting pushed further from the Loop as wealth grows in the area. La Villita and the surrounding areas are still very Mexican. Latin Americans are getting priced out just like in Wicker Park, Logan Square, Humboldt Park, etc.

@@carstarsarstenstesenn again it's disappearing in those neighborhoods. Little village is starting to see gentrification as well.
