Watching that Jaume video, then instantly re-watching that Jaume video transformed my game 10x more than any other pickle content out there. Wrist dexterity is what it is all about people! Amazing content Ed, really appreciate your channel.

I tried gripping like this on my serves when your other video with Jaume came out. I got a lot more spin and power with less effort on my serves and can't wait to keep working on this way of holding my paddle. Thank you for sharing!

I’ve been using this grip for over a decade. I’ve never considered how much it matters for my backhand and overall maneuverability. Now reflecting, I’m realizing it’s why I have a lot success with serves, spin, rolls. Honestly it’s probably more responsible than I ever thought before this video. Thanks!

This is awesome, Ed! You are changing A LOT of people’s games for the better with all of your videos, but especially with this series. Coming from a racquetball background, I’ve always had my pinky at the base of my paddle grip, but I’ve been experimenting with doing like Jaume and actually taking it off the grip entirely. My coach had shown me the drive serve with stepping into the court like Jaume suggested for you…I’ve started working on it again and it’s making a BIG difference! From watching your footage of your “new and improved serve” it looks like you are striking a really good balance of a lot of power, but still a good amount of shape which is giving you a lot of depth. I need to experiment with what you’re doing (starting farther back so my step-in isn’t quite as deep into the court, and adding a bit more shape). I’m tending to start with my front foot at the line which produces a bit more of a line drive which lands deep, but is a little less consistent than what you’re doing. I haven’t tried the hesacore yet, but a lot of my coach’s students have started using it, so I bet it’ll be in my near future! I’m all about anything that will help me loosen my grip while gaining whip AND control! Thanks again for all that you’re doing for the pickleball world!!

Great video. I was taught in my first PB clinic ever to hold the paddle as as low as possible, and it really helps me with power. I always tried to share that knowledge with people, but they never really fully understood because I wasn’t explaining it properly. I just sent this video to all my friends. 😊

Cool! I like how you are always experimenting! I've been using a low handle grip for serves, but I'll have to try Jaume's style. The wrist flexibility you showed looks great.

Thanks Ed Ju, the video and all the replies on comments has really answered all of the questions I have. A great help. Maybe worth making an extra video or stacking it all up somewhere. All of this is just a new high percentage area for pickleball that gives you additional strength to your game, that many people will never know.

I agree with others. That video about the grip has been maybe the most important video I've watched in over a year. I use the small Hesacore grip from the video you first did. I've been very pleased with the grip and with the info about how to hold the paddle. I was holding the paddle only a little higher than I do now, but leaving my pinky loose and mainly griping with the middle and ring finger has been awesome. I can't say for sure, but it seems like my 10+ month struggle with tennis elbow may be getting better and it's only been about a week.

Hi, I love the tips about how the grip helps the forehand groundstroke and serve. I’m curious to know if it decreases the control on forehand dinks because of the wristiness? Do you change the grip in that instance? Thanks so much!

@edjupickleball

I’m continental the whole time! My grip is very lose so there might be VERY small micro adjustments, but I’m not drastically changing grips midpoint- especially during firefights this can be more of a liability than an advantage.

Hey Ed, I actually personally adopted this teqhnique. It works great when you have time and apply pressure, for example serves, drives, rolls, dinks and your own speed ups. However, when you are in a handfight it seems very uncontrollable and vulnerable, or on other situation where you need more "steadiness". How have you come to battle this issue? As I read from the previous video, Jamie switches his grip in between play depending on court position, any more insight on that? I really like the new way of plaiyng, but need to find out how to strengthen the weaknesses that occurs.

What’s the biggest difference with the pink Hesacore grip? I have the white one (smaller size) and I see it weighs the same as the pink one. For weight the Selkirk edge guard added some weight to my Luxe Control air but without it I am getting chipping around the edges of the paddle.

Positioning your hand very low on the grip is the norm in tennis. In tennis, my pinky would also barely hang onto the grip, and on my serves, the pinky would actually by under the grip. I'm sure if you look at all of your pickleball pros with an extensive tennis background, you'll see them holding the paddle very low. As you put it, it allows for better maneuverability.

Hey Ed. I was originally using a hesacore grip (medium thickness) and loving the results. It felt perfect in my hand with a slight eastern grip and I was getting insane power/spin on my serves and drives. However, I started to notice I would be losing hands battles at the kitchen because I had to over-torque my wrist to get the paddle flat. Additionally, I was getting no power on backhand overheads/volleys. I realized I wasn’t swapping to a continental grip at the kitchen because the hesacore would no longer fit my hand perfectly in that position. With the hesacore, do you have it set up perfectly with a continental, and alter slightly for the shots where you need an alternative grip, or something else?

I really like this grip for added power in my game specifically on serves and drives. But I've found that it changes the balance point. It makes the paddle feel way more head heavy. I don't have elbow issues, but I could see this being a potential problem.
@miatafunrun3078
@miatafunrun3078 5 месяцев назад
I used the grip for two days both playing and 1.5 hours each day practicing my server. My forearm muscles got a workout. I took 1 week off to rest it because I did not want that to develop into tennis elbow. More speed and spin on my servers for sure but to me not worth the additional stress to my body long term. Even if you don't feel it now, it can set you up for injury down the road.

I tried the Jaume grip and serve after watching your video a couple of times and it is awesome. In practice and warm-ups I can hit it consistently and with power. BUT, then I try to use it in games or tourneys and disaster ensues, either into the net or long. The more i try to figure it out, the worse it gets and I just revert to old serving style. Any suggestions?

Hi, may I ask why did you specifically mention pink hesacore? I can see pink color is tour grip XS, while white one is tour grip, and gray one is tour carbon, but I don't know what are differences among those. I'm using white one and I'm really satisfied so far, but as a person who want to prevent injury, I was wondering if pink or gray offer better performance or injury prevention or vice versa.
@edjupickleball
@edjupickleball 6 месяцев назад
The pink one is the thinnest one (The XS refers to the thickness). White is a tiny bit thicker than the pink one. The thicker the grip, the more shock and vibration it will absorb.

Do you think this grip will help with resets at the kitchen as well when receiving baseline drives/hand battles at the kitchen?
@edjupickleball
@edjupickleball 5 месяцев назад
It’s definitely helped me. I’ve found that when I grip higher, my wrist tightens up and my hand squeezes a bit harder. But if my pinky is almost off the handle, I literally have less grip so it really forces me to hold lightly, which has been amazing for my resets. For dealing with drives, I actually will firm up my wrist because now I’m BLOCKING. No swingjng, just blocking.

ed, if i were to take off a hesascore grip from one paddle to another but still want to be able to use the old paddle would i have to buy another grip or could i just use the factory grip or an overgrip?
@edjupickleball

Assuming your old paddle’s stock grip was removed, you’ll want to put like 2-3 overgrips on that. Two overgrips is about the same thickness as a stock grip.

Definitely use an overgrip! The hesacore is just a mold. The overgrip is a layer that provides the traction and is replaceable. I change my overgrip once a week.

Do you find this grip to be slower at the kitchen? Holding the handle that low creates a longer lever which would slow down pivot time
@edjupickleball
@edjupickleball 5 месяцев назад
If my hand is still and I’m just turning the entire at a stationary fulcrum, then it’s slower. But because my wrist is lose, if I move my hand slightly, the paddle angle bends and it’s just as fast if not faster as any other grip I’ve used before.
@M0stlyHarmless9
@M0stlyHarmless9 5 месяцев назад
@@edjupickleball interesting- almost sounds like the loose wrist here moves the pivot point further up the paddle so you're moving your hand to change the paddle face rather than waving the tip around as much which would feel heavier/slower. not sure if i got that right but gonna give it a shot
