I compare some of the most popular golf grips from Golf Pride and Lamkin to see how they perform both dry and wet. Which grips perform the best in each and which can handle both.

I took your advice on not building up the grips and had a decent overall first grip experience only screwed one up thanks for all your help in this area

I use the Tour Velvet and love them. They work well dry or wet. I wipe them down with a damp rag after each round and them wipe dry with dry rag. This gives constant tack and long life. When I tried the Tour Wrap they seemed very tacky when dry but would tend to get dusty during the round and lose tack. When even slightly moist they were dangerously slippery.

I'll take the Lampkin Crossline over the GP Tour Velvet any day. The Tour Velvet is fine if you don't mind wasting money, they wear out and get slick very quickly compared to the Lampkin Crossline grips.

Too soft too. TVs twist like hell if you're an aggressive swinger

100 percent agree. The Tour velvet are no where near as grippy as the Lamkin cross line. The MCC and ST hybrid are way superior than the velvet. I wish you had tested the Lamkin UTX, they are fantastic.

I think this test would be more interesting if you tried each grip with a wet glove versus a dry glove. I can usually dry the grip on my club while I have played with a wet glove. Also, it would be interesting to try different gloves to see which work best when wet.

I play golf in the Scotland and Its wet and lot! I have played the CP2 by choice for the last few years and like it as It lasts well and feels good to me 🤷‍♂️ And saying that it’s obviously all down to choice of the individual. Good test as usual. ( btw like the Lamkin crossline too but the CP2 is my go to. And AJ since you showed me how to use an air compressor and masking tape I can change over them quickly 👍

AJ: This is exactly what I've been looking for. I need to regrip my clubs. I have the GP TV midsize microsuade grips and love them. But, I was looking. You just can't find this type of information easily. So, thank you ... I'm looking at $12 and change per MCC grip ... and half that for TV. I know my choice now! Keep up the great reviews.

I like this test. I play the golf pride mcc grips myself. Love them, even in torrential rain they work. Anyway, I heard Jim Furyk played the tour wrap on this wedges, as he can really dial in his distances gripping down one, two or three wraps, each with 3 different swings giving each club 9(!) distances. If you hit your full PW 135 yards, you can hit 36 distances within that 😱

Interesting video. I've been using wrap grips for a long time (?) but am now having to rethink my choices. I live on Cape Cod and play 75-80 rounds/yr which can get pretty humid during the summer and my hands do sweat. I've been using a Hirzl glove , made of Kangaroo skin, and have been pleased with it for the grip and durability that it provides. I've been using the same glove for 18 months with no visible wear or loss of grip. They claim that when it gets wet, the grip increases 5x. My thumb tip finally poked through last week but I have a backup. Not cheap ($23) but worth it.

I live in Texas where it is hot and humid. They don't last as long as some of the others but Winn Dri-Tac grips and a two glove rotation work best for me.

Golf pride tour velvet align on most of my clubs, like a firm corded grip in most cases. Nice comparison. I do remember trying to play gold in the rain with a cabretta leather glove years ago and the club almost flew out of my hand. Had to play with bare hands.

Your velvets are the best but don’t last a full season, so they can be frustrating especially as the most used clubs get slick fastest. I think the best of both worlds are the Iomic sticky 2.3’s and the Golf Pride z-cords.
@legend9018
@legend9018 7 месяцев назад
Good video, Tour Wrap with a glove I find is very tacky. I think the TXG guys even found a slight increase in clubhead speed when players used this grip. Can’t go wrong with a Tour Velvet although I will say the TV does lose its grip faster than they used too and when the tack is gone that grip is downright slick. MCC grips are really great in my opinion and Z Grip Cord is great too if you want a firmer feel.

It might sound surprising, but the white tour wrap G2 performs significantly better than the black one. I've noticed that the black and red versions are much more slippery compared to the white.

The best grips too use in hot humid conditions or wet conditions(even bucketing down rain) and it’s not on this list is the gripmaster roo swinger grips,those grips are HANDS DOWN THE BEST to use for ANY weather conditions,and as they are leather they will last 3-5 times LONGER than any grip that golf pride or Lamkin produces,I’ve used both and within 6 months they were useless,but with the gripmaster grips I’ve had them on my clubs now for 16 months and they are actually getting better too use and yeh they cost more than rubber/synthetic grips,but the longevity u get out of them imo far outweighs the cost

I was a Sonar/CP2 guy for the dry grip and soft feel. However in humid Texas, they just didn’t hold up like your test results. I love the Tour Velvet, but they seem to lose their tackiness much quicker than the MCC or others. So unless you’re always cleaning them, you may end up paying double to replace vs just paying double upfront for something like an MCC which is an excellent grip.

I play the Tour Velvet +4 standard grips and find periodically washing them with Dawn dishwashing soap helps retain the tackiness.

Great video AJ! I feel like the results were kinda predictable. Shiny grip is never going to be as good wet or dry. Wet glove would be even worse. For the record I noticed you may have had the CP2 on backwards but that shouldn’t affect the test.

Always thought Lamkin were better and cheaper. Funny how we say grips are soft, recall Nicklaus and hogan and Palmer played leather grips which basically was the metal shaft. How about the Avon chamois, soft with traction, and they never seem to harden so getting off older clubs is easy?

CP2 with a glove... Very tacky to me. ?? In fact I thought it was more tacky than about any grip I ever used. If anyone has problems putting grips on, they need to try to do dirt bike tires and grips sometime. After that they won't complain at all. Golf grips just slip right on no problem.

I’m surprised you thought the crossline was firmer than the tour velvet. I’ve always felt the opposite. Almost across the board I feel like Golf Pride rubber is firmer than Lamkin. Just goes to show the amount of subjectiveness in these kinds of tests.

You gotta do this test with a wet towel, cause I dunno about you but if I get caught in the rain, my towel gets wet right along with me, and the cart hoods and bag covers don't cover most of the towels. So I feel like they should be a little more wet than what a dry towel can really make the grips. Just a thought 🤔

Love Decade multicompounds but Golf Pride grips just don't last. Lamkin grips easily last 2x or more as long. Standard crosslines are indestructible. They last forever and you can blow them on and off, unlike most GP's.

The Lampkin Crosslines last forever! Still have a set of Hogan Apex with them on. Just a spray of Dawn dish soap and it feels even better! The GP wraps as the worst grips if you’re playing in the rain. I found that out while playing a tournament at Bandon using the white grip because it’s heavy at 55 grams. Driver flew out of my hands several times and almost hit a caddy. Awful! Changed it out that evening.
