So glad these speeches are online, wish I'd found them 6 years ago!

This is very informative. Also enjoying his humorous allusions to current affairs.

Academic humour is an acquired taste, nevertheless a concise and very well presented lecture. Please don't gainsay Gresham or Doctor Milne, the College has been providing Public lectures since the end of the 16th Century CE and are actually rather good at their role.

Good talk overall. BTW, It could be worse for us Americans. We could have May.

A most interesting and informative lecture. But I can assure you Dr Milne, that the political commentary does nothing to enhance your presentation.

I watch these videos for knowledge. I do not watch them for cheap political jibes. Please stop.

When you grow up, you'll learn to laugh at your own opinions as well as others, it's called being light hearted.

@@tobyfountain414 And you, young Fountain - fail to grasp the tectonic rumblings of paradigm shift... Those with more 'conservative' tastes have shouldered the upkeep of this Nations' educational establishments - even though we knew that the entire system was rotten to the core, so when some medical-idiot, wearing a cheap suit, buttoned to the top opens with a snide gag designed to virtue signal his 'rite-on' ideology, I for one simply walk.... Goodbye...!!

@@cityandsuburb Your precise involvement in 1597 when Gresham was founded? Your conservative Pounds or Dollars which benefit the College, your Academic qualifications to dismiss Dr Milne's public lecture?

That sneer at US democracy was unnecessary.

Ha! I logged in because I found it interesting, but the political Kool-Aid was getting on my nerves. I see that most others saw the same thing.

He said one thing "political." Most thinking people see Trump for what he is..a overachieving carnival barker.

It's a shame that an academic talk should be spoiled at the outset by a sneery comment about the democratic choice of working people.

A fascinating lecture but the smarmy asides added nothing to it. However, it riled the Trumpsters, so he done some good at least.

34:11 How do you become civilized without trade(and, more importantly, maintaining it)? All this snarky politics engenders a hearty "thumbs down".

Hard to miss Dr Milnes politics with his snarky comment about President Trump election. He also got in a sly one on John Majors. And they wonder why academia is falling into reprute.

Was going to watch this but the ridiculous political hysteria at the start means I won't bother. I was hoping to watch an unbiased historical assessment, not a political lecture.
