The Comfort Series Instant Hot Water System includes a Grundfos UP15-10SU7/TLC circulator and the revolutionary Comfort Valve. The stainless steel circulator, complete with timer and 10-foot power cord, is installed directly to the hot water discharge on the water heater. The Comfort Valve can be installed in less than an hour under the sink at the fixture farthest from the water heater, and the system uses the existing cold water line to return hot water to the water heater.
The Comfort System is designed to give homeowners the added comfort and convenience of instant hot water and reduce the amount of wasted water, saving up to 16,000 gallons per year. There are no pumps under sinks and thus no power required under sinks, no return lines needed, and no buttons to push. The pump uses less energy than a 25-watt light bulb. Set the timer on the Grundfos pump and stop waiting for hot water. The set Includes timer, linecord, thermal by-pass valve and two valve mounting screws.

When the bypass valves closes, is the pump then pumping in a dead head condition? Does the pump turn off when the bypass valve closes? If not, is there another bypass scenario within the pump itself?

I had this installed by a plumber 2 years ago. I turn it off in summer..when I turned on now the pump runs, pipes are hot but the hot water takes forever to reach the upstairs. Suggestions before I call plumber? Thanks

We have a tank heater, installing this system next week. Giving thought to using three comfort valves in the house. One at the furthest master bathroom sink, kitchen sink & guest bathroom sink. Hot water does take forever to get to these locations. Will more then one comfort value create unintended consequences?

So this the pump pushes out the cold back to the water heater? Does it push it back to the water main as well?
@wingnutwingnut7490
@wingnutwingnut7490 2 года назад
yes it does, that graphic is misleading, the cold HOT water leaving via the cold pipe from the third sink will go to the cold water of the first or second or the ice maker if they are opened

@@wingnutwingnut7490 oh ok, thanks. Do you think they’ll have to install a check valve as well?
@wingnutwingnut7490
@wingnutwingnut7490 2 года назад
@@hyster2568 there's only two options. Either as they show it and your cold water is "contaminated" with the less clean hot water heater output water. The second option, if you have an unfinished basement in a ranch, as I do. install the pump on a return going into the hot water heater bottom (remove the drain valve and replace with a tee) This method isolates hot and cold water. There are some videos here on youtube

No No No! Every drop that the pump pushes comes from the hot water heater and the hot heater has to pull the same amount back in to replace the water that it pushed into the cold line. The water heater will use slightly more power to keep the water in the line warm and the pump uses a few watts of power.

i Just bought this pump, but i do have the possibility to put a return loop if its better.... i have a solar water heather that feeds a tankless electric heather... what should i do ?

I'd think you'd need to install a boiler drain on the cold water/return line, in a similar fashion to how one would for a recirculating system with it's own dedicated return line.

Can you put this on a tankless water heater rinnai to be exact
@Supplyhouse

It's recommended you confirm with the manufacturer of your tankless heater, as some manufacturers will also void or cut your warranty in half if it's used with a recirculation pump.

So the box says saves money and your description says it saves you money. But you are saving money by not wasting water for waiting for it to get warm. But aren’t you wasting a fortune in your gas by having the water heater constantly be heating the water. Clearly I’m missing something.

built in timer, run it when your home and active or setup continuous and connect to a smart outlet and turn on when needed
@wingnutwingnut7490
@wingnutwingnut7490 2 года назад
this is kind of misleading, The cold water in your hot water lines is not "going back to your hot water heater to be reheated" !!! It is going into your cold water system, it will go wherever you call for cold water. This includes the ice maker in your fridge, the water you drink etc... this isn't ideal, if you've ever drained a hot water heater you know why... yuk
@michaelpounds675
@michaelpounds675 Год назад
This was my first thought too but it does go back into the hot water heater. The exact same amount of water that the pump pushes into the cold side is pulled back into the water heater and the comfort valve only allows only COLD water to be recirculated through the cold line. It shuts off when the water reaches a certain temperature.
@wingnutwingnut7490
@wingnutwingnut7490 Год назад
@@michaelpounds675 is it really? The drawing is deceptive, the water heater in my house is not a couple inches from my cold water source (well tank). It''s actually a gas heater on the the other side of the basement by the chimney. So there's a tee at the source and a 25 foot run of cold water to the water heater and 25 feet of hot water to the start of my plumbing run. The drawing makes it look like all my cold water lines are as close to the water heater as they are to the other fixtures . The cold water and hot water to fixtures are run side be side. That comfort valve closes at about 100 degrees, even with no other fixtures open its unlikely my cold water lines will clear the formerly hot water. It really doesn't effect me I have added a reverse osmosis system with separate faucets for drinking cooking etc.. I'm going to install this system when i replace my water heater, wiring it to a smart outlet (pump set for continuous operation). So i can turn it on with my phone before i shower, laundry etc.. this should reduce well pump cycles and put less water into my septic system
@SkittleEagle
@SkittleEagle Год назад
Not really, thats why there is a separate return line coming from the furthest fixture. The diagram is just not drawn correctly. It will work with a check valve.
@wingnutwingnut7490
@wingnutwingnut7490 Год назад
@@SkittleEagle ???? it is drawn correctly for this application There is no check valve in the drawing. just the "comfort valve" which is a thermally activated vale that allows hot water to pass into the cold lines until the water reaches a certain temp,I think it is 100 degrees. where would you put a check valve?? Check valves are used when you have a dedicated return hot water line that is a home run back to a tee on the bottom of the hot water heater at the drain valve.
@SkittleEagle
@SkittleEagle Год назад
@@wingnutwingnut7490 the drawing does show the return line back to the water heater. That is where the check valve would go. Maybe it depends on where you are located but my inspector ask for a check valve.
