Why on earth is this $150? It gets smoked by the RX 6400 at the same tier of price point, and that card was criticized for being overpriced. Needing a 6-pin for this level of performance in 2022 is crazy! If it were half the price and had 50W TDP it would be a great card, but it seems ridiculous.
The 6-pin power here is simply Palit's own choice of including one. The Official TDP of GTX 1630 is 75W. You can blame Palit for uselessly adding extra power plug for this model. But there definitely will be models without one. Even low profile ones.
The real reason the RX6400 got criticized for is the lack of hardware de/encoding support and the limited amount of monitors that can be hooked up to it. It can't game very well, but for all the other use cases it was also kind of useless. This 1630 could be a great addition to a Plex server or a system that needs 3x 4k to be hooked up to it. There's actual use cases for it. Gaming was never the main focus of this card.
I got my RX 580 8GB for $130 from microcenter at the end of 2019. Now in 2022 we have the 1630 for $150 which performs less than half of a 580, what a time we live in.
I bought a Powercolor Red Devil RX580 8gb on eBay with a janky chrome fan super glued in place of the dead stock fan for $80. $20 replacement fans from inRobert (sus name) and it runs like a dream in my travel rig.
@@singlsrvngfrnd that's one hell of a deal, i got a rx 580 4gb with a broken fan for 150$ during the gpu crysis and thought that was a deal lol. Got a replacment fan from aliexpress for 4$.
Wow, so the rumours were right... It is in fact slower than a 1050Ti 🤦♂️ I really can't see the appeal of it at 150$, should've been an 80$ or 100$ card to truly replace the 1030... Hey at least it's PCIe 3.0 16x and has shadowplay, but still. If it's near 150$ it's definitely a no-go! Thanks for the review, great as usual 😉💪
Gotta agree if its a replacement for the gt 1030 it should be gt 1030 money cheapest of which new in the UK while still getting gddr 5 is 69.99 if this would of been nearer 89.99 it would be the go to budget gaming card. but at 150 hell no especially with the six pin requirement the rx 470 goes for 75 second hand on cex and it destroys the competition in that price range.
Oh it's simple. The 1630 exists to 'justify' the higher MSRP for the other higher end GPUs. Nvidia doesn't want people buying GPUs from the sub 150usd pricepoint anymore. I hope this GPU sits on shelves unsold for a very long time. Bitter disappointment as i was hoping for something like a GT/RT 3030 with DLSS support to be on the roadmap.
Seriously those cheap GPU’s are a waste of money period. Go for a 60 series GPU at the lowest because 50 series and below are never good performance or longevity.
@@ZackSNetwork hold on. I agree the -30 cards are kinda a waste, but the -50 cards have historically been good enough for basic gaming. The GTX 750 Ti was once the most popular card and is still relatively popular even now. The 1650 was a bit of a wash, but the 1650S was decent and even the 3050 is fine if you get it at a good price. Not everyone needs the highest graphic preset and if all you want is decent 1080p gaming, the -50 series is perfectly fine for that.
150 $/€ GPU segments is about to be done for. APUs will take over. Ryzen 7000, then Intel 14th gen desktop (13th gen will keep the lackluster graphics of 11th gen...)
2 reasons why it exists; 1. Making use of partially failed chips or binning. Let's Nvidia make some income on chips that would otherwise be e-waste. 2. It helps Nvidia to try and justify the higher MSRPs of everything above it. A few years ago this would have been a lousy $75-100 GPU but at over $150 and requires extra power this card is a DOA IMO. Sadly it will still draw in suckers who think they're getting a deal. smh
This is definitely a pointless card at its current price point. Had this been below $100 and no external power connector then it could've been decent at least.
How does the gtx 1650 die require binning? It is on a relatively ancient tsmc 12nm node and the die size is so small that yield rates should be almost perfect.
They're trying to achieve justification for the big price hikes coming for RTX 4000 series. If such a pisswilly low tier card is coming in at $150 - $200, what do you think will be happening up the stack? Lol
People need to understand that due to 50% yearly inflation $100 gaming GPU segment is dead and buried. Now entry level price is around $150. 6400 and 1630 confirm that.
2016: GTX 1050 Ti for around 150$ with no extra pcie connectors🔝 6 years later... 2022: GTX 1630, slower than a 1050ti for the same price, but with a 6pin extra connector 😅
It could be worse, the gtx 1630 will most likely have driver support long after 1050 ti, it has a newer architecture than it, and it probably uses less power and stays cooler. Now I think this thing should be cheaper, but with the chip shortage and inflation being every valid issues, I can understand the pricing a bit more.
@@denis2381 Well, I only had 1 new GPU in 25 years, rest was used, what's the matter here? Warranty? The only card that died was a dumb overclock while being stoned on my side.
1070s can be found for less than $150 and 1070ti/1660S go for about $180 on ebay. I wouldn't consider this card unless you have a phobia of used hardware.
This is awful... as powerful as a 1050ti, but with the requirement of a 6 pin connector? And obviously won't come in low profile... i guess the rx 6400 it is!
In some cases, it's worse than a 1050Ti. I reckon that even at PCI 3.0, an RX6400 or RX6500XT would beat this. Not to mention you could try comparing this to an RX 5XXX series GPU (in terms of cost) and seeing how they perform.
I saw a single fan version from Gigabyte which might come without pcie connectors, I would be disappointed if there wasn´t any model that supported this considering the 1050ti could work with only the motherboard providing power.
If you really want to go new, I don't see a reason to pick this over an RX6400, despite all its flaws. Even in a 3.0 system, the 6400 would outperform the 1630 in every game, without a 6 pin.
Wow $150!!!!! for a “30-level” GPU, I remember when Nvidia would make a ton of “GT” cards back in the day, I owned a GT 620, GT 630, GT 640 back in 2013 lol and those videos cards where at least decent prices when new
On FB Marketplace I've been seeing GTX 1080s showing up for $100-$150 here and there if that speaks for this "value". Also I agree, I actually pre-ordered the EVGA GT 710 for my old Acer machine that didn't have power pins for a GPU so I needed a pcie powered card. Was only like $50 or so I think and it took that pc from running minecraft with minimum settings and no real framerate all the way to 90fps with far render distance and "fancy" graphics. Was so my little sister could play MC in the living room when she wanted to
IIRC, in the mid-2010s, I got a GT 640 and it was like an old version of a GTX 750 series, except for no hardware encoding of course. Loved it that it decimated my 2008 GeForce 9500 GT. It showed that time was up for the eVGA GeForce 9500 GT, which was slow, but reliable. Time was up, because it was too limited, for even early-2010s' games. I got it used, marked as "refurbished" and it looked like it was from 2012 or 2013.
Considering you can get a 1060 6GB for close to $100 these days... this pricing is absurd. But perhaps that's the point and what we can expect for the MSRP on the incoming cards. Then again, I expected a worse price to performance ratio this coming gen.
Yeah, I got 1080 for $190 week ago from miner. Some 1630 models are $200... No one savvy enough is going to buy this when you can buy 1070/1080 on used marked for same price.
Bought the 1060 6gb for 99 gbp which is less in dollars, only downside is I had to pay like 40 gbp for it to be sent but I'm from México so anyone from the US or UK won't be paying that much. Still I'd havd payed same for sending the 1630 so not worth it though, would be higher than 150$ if found at MSRP.
@@esuil Yep, got a 1070 for about $160 recently and even the 6600 is going for close to $200 on the used market. People really need to get over this fear of used GPUs.
@@erickalvarez6486 Yep, I just got one recently for $118 off eBay after taxes and shipping. And I think the prices are only going to get better because I don't think we've seen the bulk of the mining sell off yet.
I'd like to know why it has a 6-pin power connector while most GTX 1650's don't, I still own a low profile Zotac 1650 which outperforms this and never had any issues
I think this release is even *worse* than the RX 6500 from AMD - probably the worst GPU in terms of price/performance I can think of for all of the 15 years I've been interested in PC hardware. I reckon the fact that prices on GPUs beginning to fall has had something to do with that there doesn't seem to be the widespread outrage there was at the RX 6500 - maybe there being a lot of pent up demand at the low end. The best way of summarising this situation is that while the 6500XT was an RX 590 for PCIe 4.0 systems , an RX 480 for PCIe 3.0 systems for what you'd have paid for an RX 590 in 2019. Not good at all , but wait until you see what Nvidia presents you... A slower GTX 960 for what you'd have paid for a GTX 960 in 2014. More like a 4GB GTX 950 with a slight clock bump , and would have been an underwhelming card back then if nVidia released it for £170 then , this is a complete ripoff in 2022. Yes , you get some basic encoders and an extra display out for your trouble this time round to go for the pitiful performance for £180 , as Scan price it up at. /rant
What I hate is that RX 6500 was almost a great GPU. If it had encoders, full x16, 128-bit bus and 6GB of RAM (for the same price) it would have been sold like hot bread. It would have made Nvidia reconsider their budget line-up.
@@aleksazunjic9672 nope, check your facts before posting comments. - RX 6600 has 28 compute units, RX 6500 XT has just 16 compute units; - 6600 has 32mb of Infinity Cache, 6500 xt just 16mb; - RX 6600 has 8GB of VRAM. Even they did a version of RX 6500 XT without cut features it would have been a totally different GPU to a RX 6600.
@@luckyowl10 It was a joke :D What I wanted to say is that with your proposed performance increase cost of production for 6500xt would be dangerously close to 6600, i.e. they would aim for the same market segment.
You are amazing! I love these reviews! Fast, to the point and not a lot of needless graphs all over the place. You report your findings on a level that anyone can follow without alienating them in technical details. Kudos to you! Keep up the fantastic work!
To me this card would have only been worth it if it was 1. 70$ 2. 35w TDP similiar to the GT1030. One of the big selling characteristics of the GT1030 was that because its TDP was so low that you could literally toss it into any aging prebuild and give it an adequate gaming experience. If the 1630 hit that mark and was price right it truly would have filled that gap that has been missing 2017.
love your content as always, watching every video over morning coffee religiously :) although I do have a note, I really think you should start adding a little comparative data to your videos (how whatever gpu or cpu scales to a few we all know)
Greetings from Croatia. Just wanted to let You know that this is the most relaxing, informative and witty content I've ever encounter around internet. Keep up the good work!!!
Ohohooh finally gettin dem free stuffs huh? Congrats! You're in the big leagues now for sure, it's a small step but you never know what awaits in the future, maybe a 4080 for review 😄, very happy for ya!
well t600 is very close RX560 if techpowerup is anything to go by, i think 1630 would be a tad faster : I am surprised the t600 actually performed a bit better than 1050ti in almost everything
@@akaviolaqrif350 do check for research yourself t600 can be 50% faster than 1050 ti depending on game and is always 10%-15% faster reagardless of title
Even at $150 US it's a bad deal. Right now for $159 you can get a RX6400 and the cheapest new 1650 is $180 (though for $20 more you can get a Super version). The RX6400 even in a 3.0 PCIE slot runs better in most games than this card and it only use 54W and it's half of the bus lanes you would think that it's a disadvantage, but it ain't. This is a pointless card at it's asking price. Now if the card was being sold for under $100 then I can see this as a okay choice. But to be frank I would just go straight to the used market, and take my chances. At the time of posting I can get a OEM GTX 1660 for around $100 used or a Ti/Super for $20 more on eBay.
I ended up buying a used 1070 Ti for around $180 now that things aren't as atrocious as they once were. Still, the 1630 isn't bad for a glorified display adapter. Although with a proper PCIe Gen 4 system, the RX 6400 seems to do better in that regard
Why would you buy an ancient 1070ti in 2022? Especially when Lovelace launches in 4 months from know. It’s literally a 6 year old 4 GPU generation product.
This is definitely good low end gpu which has NVENC but price isn't good for sure. But now, we will need half of GTX 1630 without encoder, GT 1610 would be beast.
2gb ddr5 (not gddr, mind you), no encoders whatsoever, internal 32 bit bus, pci-e 5.0 x2, also it's slower than a 750ti. But hey, msrp is only 129€ and it's low profile
Although I have 1050 TI. I want low end GPU market to be better. Because people who currently buy new PCs. Only options they have are GT 710, 730, 1030 which are even worse than Intel's integrated graphics. AMD's GPUs are expensive (In Asia atleast), Even RX 570 costs more than 1050 TI as of 2022 and only if you're lucky to find one. They're leaving entire market of users who won't pay too much but want something better than integrated GPU. I hope Intel / AMD figure this out and make something out of it.
The bit about the GPU being silent was also mentioned in TPU's review of Gainward's 1630, I wonder if they are all really silent because they come with an oversized cooling solution compared to what is inside the shroud...
Maybe Nvidia were hoping that, by releasing this GPU, almost all of the used 1050 and 1050Ti stock would dry up, thereby leaving a gap that this would slot into. There's literally no reason to buy this when you can get a used 1050Ti for the same price.
Interesting, I did wonder myself whether there would be any future xx30 series GPUs, and this answers the question. Though as you say, I don't know why one would want to pick a GTX 1630 when the GTX 1050, 1050Ti and (6GB) 1060 exist, whereas if you want a display adapter, you can get one of the older X30 or X10 series GPU's for much less (or use the integrated graphics).
Just when we thought the RX6400 was a big turd, this comes and blows it out of the water. Hopefully Intel comes along with the Alchemist A380 and teaches both AMD and nVIDIA a lesson in providing value, because this is disgraceful.
@@mariokuppers5686 slower... for now ! Wait until driver updates after updates unleach the true power of alchemist. AMD released recently a driver giving a big boost in some open GL titles
I have one question: you said 75 W TDP. Good-quality Mainboards can deliver the 75 Watts over PCI-E. Theoretically no additional PCI power would be needed. Could it run on PCI slot power or won't it start anyway and you must use PCI plug?
I know this might be off topic about the card but what test bench is that? Ever since I got my Dell OEM 3080 (I like the looks and the slightly lower power draw) I wanted an open air test-bench style case to look at it.
Between the Arc A380, the 6400 and this it really feels like Intel, AMD and NVIDIA have a competition going to create the worst and most overpriced low end GPU.
Ha! Finally someone who uses Xbox One X equivalent settings from DF to test rdr2. Good review mate, card is shite, we all knew it, thanks for confirming it. Looking forward on more data.
Maybe I missed it on a different video but originally I thought I remember you saying you were going to use vice city as the GTA benchmark game because it seems to be the hardest of the 3 to run. Did something change? Just curious is all :D
I mostly feel like the card shouldn't exist because you can actually get a better card for a little more or if lucky you can get it for cheaper than the 1630. Like RX 570 can be a great budget card.
I said it for the 6500XT and I'll say it again. If your looking to build a cheap gaming PC Save your money Buy a 980 Ti instead. Seriously, Don't give these greedy Clown Companies money for these low effort excuses to keep their cash flow up, Its their fault for a forecast of dry sales to come due to their willingness to play with Crypto.
Nice video, as always! However, I just want to mention that this is NOT PCIe x16, you can clearly see missing contacts. That is x8. Same bandwidth as PCIe 4.0 x4, but with the advantage of being x8 on PCIe 3.0. Anyway, just wanted to point that out since I seen some people got confused down the comments.
Is this a good overclocker like the Gigabyte 1030 GDDR5? Used to play Fortnite 1080P low setting at about 80-150 FPS (depending on where you are on the map) paired with 2x4GB DDR3 1333 Ram and an old Xeon X3450 OC @3.8GHz 🤔
I love the vids, feel free to ignore and disagree with this opinion. I run a machine with a rx 570 and one with a 1050ti, FSR is great for getting fps, but tbh my eyes can always tell the difference even at higher scales. I always take the frame dip and prefer full 1080p as it just looks nicer than FSR. FSR is just grainy too me.
@@hassanraza6477 almost same amount I payed for mine. I live in europe, so I got mine for 50 euro. But as I sed - serves me wery well for what it is. Even at ulrawide FHD 😌🤘
I have a need for more monitors and having cards like this are useful. Right now, my lowest-power card is a GTX 970 on a PCIe x4 slot which is still pretty high-power. Over time, driver support gets worse, and it's useful to have something new enough and up-to-date enough. This is where I see a card like this fitting in for me. I can install my existing universal nVIDIA drivers, and they can control more than just my 3090.
So, I need some help here. I just helped a friend upgrade his old rig and as payment I got to keep the old AM3+ board with the FX8320 and all the goodies! Problem, when we took the old water cooler off he lost the backplate and stand offs! I cannot figure our which corsair cooler it is (its standard 240 rad with block pump combo/ ASETEK design we all know). I would love some help tracking down a replacement backplate (it has the mount attached to the waterblock, its just the 4 hole type that twists and locks). I figure if any community knew, it would be y'all! Thanks in advance!
Seems rather pointless with the 6-pin power connector. Palit should've sent ya a low-profile one as that's the only real reason to buy this. Most 1650s don't even need a 6-pin connector. Yet a weaker card needs one. It shouldn't at all. Imagine a GT 1030 needing one. It also has the same TDP as the 1650 despite having much less shaders and actual power consumption is high enough to sell one with the 6-pin. The temperatures aren't that good either for what it is. It probably is meant to compete with the RX 6400, yet it should perform noticably worse. Honestly this GPU could have a silver lining IF it was priced right. And I have a feeling it won't be.
I think your at a stage where you should implement two data sets and implement them in your videos and also give some comparisons to other cards you tested. It would be very helpful to be able to see the difference. Just provide a standard data set, where all settings are the same for every card, and then the optmized data set for the individual cards.
How do you test Forza 5 ... I just installed to test and no matter what resolution and quality settings it always stay at about 200 fps and just not go above that. there must be some limitation. At first it was just 160 fps, because of 160Hz monitor and Sync, I had that removed but it hit 200 fps cap :( It is not normal to be 200 fps at 1440p high and at 800x600 low still be same 200 fps. So how to remove that limitation and test what I can really get ?
ReLive just isn't really needed anymore with Windows build-in recording capabilities. And this requires GeForce Experiences, which I and many others like to avoid for several reasons
Agree, i remember when i choose rtx 2060 instead on gtx 1660 ti laptop purely due to dlss support that of course beneficial for long term device like laptop although the difference in fps is not that huge right now it will be huge in future unless if the games stupidly cpu heavy like cities skylines etc
I upgraded from integrated graphics on my i5 3470 ( hd 2500) to a gtx 1050 and i couldn't be happier since i've never owned a gpu. This card is certainly aimed at people like me looking to make that transition to discrete graphics.
Enjoy! Still works as a solid card. Even if you won't be able to play the latest AAA games well. There's still lots of wonderful games that run great on the 1050.
I paid $165USD about a month ago for a used 1660 Super. A 1630 for $150 seems totally unjustifiable. RX480s can be had for under $100USD on eBay, if you get a decent deal.
A trusted store in my local area is selling this at 50% off - _$78.82 USD_ - this upcoming weekend (June 2nd-4th). Should I do it with a Ryzen 5 4500? Or is a 4650G/Vega 7 better value? Side Note: I play AAA games on my Xbox Series X. Just need a midrange rig for work + "esports" and M&K titles. Thank you!
It's nice to see that we're back to the point we're sub 50bseries cards are capable of playing modern titled again... And it didn't take as long as I thought it would tbf. Need to do something about that price though 😅 you can get a used 1060 from CEX for around the same price.
I just built a tiny HTPC which is barely bigger than several laptops stacked on top of another, and I was looking for a nice low profile, low power GPU. Nvidia has definitely convinced me with this awesome release... I am going to wait for the 6400 to drop in price and get that one!
It's quite good for jellyfin acceleration, it supports all of nvenc and nvdec except av1 which you won't find much releases using it anyway. Bought one for less than $130 for my personal sonarr, jellyfin, etc server to be there until i upgrade my main pc's gpu and is doing quite well.
Cards like this have traditionally come into existence for OEs like Dell and HP to have "gaming" computers with budget parts. One thing the OEs found in the past was that when the cards were specific to them and not available at retail, they sold worse so we started getting these weird cut-down cards in retail packaging. The upside is you can always find one on sale somewhere for well under MSRP. Shoot, I picked up a pair of GDDR5 GT 1030s several years ago for $29.99 each and, with some promo gift certs, paid a whopping 99 cents each. Grabbing an old refurb office PC and one of these things on sale could let you put together a PC that'll let someone play older games like GTA V with ease (GTA V RP is still mighty popular) and even modern games at 1080p/medium settings without issue.
Just read the Techpowerup review. The power-consumption section is interesting, as thier particular model for testing (Gainward) also had a 6-pin power connector, but their tests showed that it never exceeded 75W consumption. Heck, gaming was at around 50W. So the 6-ppin power isn't necessary. Even OC'd it spiked at 71W, if I read the article correctly.
