About Tendo: He's really cartoonish, but he's still realistic. Guess block is a real thing, it's not easy to use consistently and often discouraged because of the risks, but I guess at this level it's pretty effective, given no team has many attacking paths like the pros

From the perspective of someone who actually plays volleyball, there's no such thing as guess blocking, I guess it's the fault of the way its portrayed, but anybody who just guesses when they block would not be allowed on court especially with a coach as good and strict as Washijou. Good coaches are trained to distinguish, flashy players, from ones who will actually make an impact on court. Tendo is still reading the setter (hard to do with Kageyama's incredible form which they make a note to point out several times throughout the story) and the hitters, but just doing it more instinctually than compared to Tsukki who waits to see the ball actually be set to one side or the other. We even see Tendo doing normal in-system blocks, so it's not like he's guessing for the block every play, only when he really feels it - which good blockers in real life can really do. I've had several moments when I've known where the ball is going to be set and if I'll be able to kill it or not, just pure in the moment stuff.

@@ghost_noodle8298 slight S4 spoilers! It's just like coach Anabara said (thought) at Miyagi's training camp: first Hinata was playing mostly on instinct, then he started actually thinking about his moves. Eventually, with time and experience, that thinking melds together with instinct and becomes "the most critical of tools for any player's toolbox" - intuition. Your commend immediately made me think of that.

@@ghost_noodle8298 Well they are young, so I meant my comment in the context of 15 years old. Of course you normally rely on option vs read block, but to make the sport more relatable they sorta shift the duality using "guess block", something you usually can realistically see at very low level with low speed plays. I was just stating that Tendo is not some monster using super special moves, that's it. I always like to point out when Haikyuu shows normal and real things in a good way to draw the attention of the audience, versus classic shounen unmotivated hype for big and yet useless special moves.

Great commentary, also Lindsay's pants really throw me off, I thought it was a blanket the first few times I've seen them. New place looks really nice now, keep up the great work.

Tendo is actually one of Furudate's (the author's) favorite characters to draw! They like how expressive he is~ And that discorded trumpet is Tendo's character theme xD Kageyama trusting such an important ball to Tsukki once he started stepping up is such a nice touch! Just a word for Washijou - his approach to coaching, or at the very least shaping a team, has some really solid points. School teams do change significantly every year, and often you have no idea what kind of players you'll be getting, so trying to rely on something ~stable~ like physically strong, consistent players feels reasonable. (There's more to Washijou's reasoning than this, but we'll get there.) While Karasuno's success is no fluke and is still realistic, they did have a bunch of stars align just right for them to make it so far. Nice to hear you appreciate the mascots imagery! With certain teams players' names are also connected to their respective animals. This reminds me though that the author kind of regretted not giving Seijou one xD

They call it guessing but he's also somewhat making a READ. There are plenty of situations you have to "guess in sports/eSports.

Saying if they didn't have such a strong spiker then that point wouldn't have happened is like saying if hinata wasn't so fast then the freak quick wouldn't happen. The fact is that ushiwaka IS that powerful, and hinata IS that fast, they have to find a way to beat them anyway

shiratorizawa is too powerful to be playing in miyagi. They should have made them be in tokyo prefecture in my opinion. so they can fight bokuto and sakusa. that would be too epic

But Miyagi is a high level prefecture, we've been told that before. And we do see really great teams. Seijo and Dateko and Wakunan can all be on Nationals too

@@AllTheArtsy nah wakunan is worst than tsubakihara. karasuno can win easily against tsubakihara if kageyama didnt have problem with his quick attack toss in the first round of the nationals.
